We have been tasked with tackling a variety of different work for Waitrose including maintenance, data cabling, fire alarm installations, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Airstation One-Touch Secure System (AoSS) projects. Alongside the electrical work, we have also completed additional works including painting, decorating, trolley bay installations and Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) installations. As a NICEIC registered company, we assemble our local teams who are regularly assessed and audited under the certification’s remit, following each contract award.
INNOVATIONS
Our environmental responsibility is an important aspect of our work. Waitrose required a large, lit totem signage for the majority of their stores. We worked with a specialist supplier to develop solar powered totems which utilise the sun’s energy and are environmentally friendly. We also recently worked with Waitrose to develop their ‘Unpacked’ pilot scheme within their Botley Road store in Oxford. ‘Unpacked’ is an alternative way of shopping that uses less packaging by encouraging customers to bring their own containers so that they can weigh and fill them with their groceries. The packaging-free concept saw us provide electrical supplies to their new equipment including beer pumps, refrigeration units, detergent dispensers, and scale points. We also completed the refurbishment and redecoration of the store itself. After the success of the trial, the scheme was rolled out into Cheltenham, Abingdon and Wallingford.
SOLUTION
To ensure we establish a comprehensive delivery programme, our dedicated National Electrical Manager is the main Project Manager for all the contracts and attends every pre-start meeting for each contract award. When completing major installations, sometimes we have to turn off the mains supply. This is conducted when the shop isn’t trading to minimise disruption to customers and staff. We also provide additional generators to power the refrigeration units to avoid the loss of stock.
THE RESULTS
Our can-do attitude and commitment to our relationship with Waitrose has led to increased customer satisfaction over the years. We are dedicated to Waitrose’s projects and have even accommodated additional works outside of the programme by assigning approved sub-contractors to complete works within the original time scales.
