Balsa

RETAIL SHOP OBJECTIVES
Create a new brand and provide interior design services for a retail shop located in Emirates Mall, Dubai. Space is around 8800 mm2. The design focuses on the store layout, window display, furnishings, lighting, flooring, and wall design.
SOLUTION
Balsa is a gift store brand inspired by nature and meant to turn art into a lifestyle. Located in a mall, Balsa has the contemporary style to evoke nature by placing natural materials such as wood and concrete in the design space.
CONCEPT
The concept was inspired from a balsa tree which has flexibility in its wood. And the activities were influenced by the feeling (flexibility) of the designers when they use balsa wood to show their design with any shape required for.

RETAIL Balsa Shop - Gift Store Location: Mall of Emirates Area = 230 m2
The store is suitable for kids and adults, it provides fun activities such as customized items and self-wrapping gifts, so the customers can combine the beauty of their design with Balsa’s store items. Also it arranges some workshops for people to learn some techniques in a specific range of art.

FRONT STORE ELEVATION
The store consists of smooth and simple design elements; so the items can be noticeable with its simplicity and colors. Opening up space was good for the clients to flow in the store, and divided based on the process of setting up the gift. (Design - Create - Wrap).

MAGAZINE OFFICE OBJECTIVES Working in a group of 4 students to create a new magazine brand and decide a concept and apply it by providing interior design services for an office space consists of two floors located in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The circulation is divided based on its function. SOLUTION Al Hawra is a women magazine inspired by the Arab woman. Al Hawra has the modern Islamic style to show the characteristics of the Arab Woman by placing features that evoke their beauty such as their big brown eyes.
CONCEPT The Concept is inspired by the delicate features of the Arab woman while collaborating with modern Islamic style to show the lifestyle of the Arab woman. Space is designed to create an environment where both employees and customers feel mentally ease. The magazine office was created by clean lines with neutral colors and delicate fixtures, in order to keep the majestic and true tradition Islamic style. The interior design is based on the principle of “form follows function� to keep the space modern, as well reflects warmth, cleanness, love, and beauty on the space.

The magazine office has the modern Islamic style to demonstrate the beauty of Arab women by using elements like Islamic patterns and arches.

GUARDIAN RESPITE CARE CENTER OBJECTIVES Create a new firm located in Sharjah which provides the people beneficial services that don’t exist in the city. Guardian Respite Care Center (GRCC) focuses on helping Parents and their kid who has General Developmental Delay (GDD). The center is around 3500 mm. SOLUTION
GRCC for children with GDD as mental handicapped, where children receive planned short-term programs and time-limited breaks for families from the daily routine. GRCC focuses on improving parents to socialize more with their child, as well as raise the children to be more active and fulfill their educational interests.
CONCEPT Acetylcholine is a chemical messenger that activates muscles, and responsible for learning, dreaming and memory. The concept of this project comes from senses in which the project is dedicated to provoking children with GDD to use their five senses. HOSPITALITY
Guardian Respite Care Center Location: Sharjah, UAE. The design is indicated to enhance General Developmental Delay children to interact with each other, as well provoke parents to cooperate with their child. The circulation of the center focuses on educating children through interesting activities interacting with their environment. The design is an open-up space, featuring furnitures to fit each purpose of each area, such as reading, learning, painting and play.

The center is willing to give the kids a calm feeling by providing open space and no wall, plus allowing natural lighting in most of the space.

The series of furniture is defining each area. Beside from the furniture, the materials were selected each on each activity, wooden flooring for the learning area, carpet for the reading and rubber flooring for the painting area.

The purpose of the outdoor playground is to give freedom to the children and teach them through discovery. Light colors and tones are used to implement the feeling of home in the children’s heart. The playground is featuring seating furnitures shaded with pergolas.

The design is naturally arranged to create a fresh and pleasant space. Plants surrounding makes it an ideal space for meetings, gather-ups or even those who seeks for a quiet corner.
