Brown Fox Title
Emphasis. Symbolism.
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog near the bank of the river.
I wanted to create a distinct identity on this particular compilation. The core reflected are with interest on human struggles, triumph, and messages that touches the souls of those who will read their story.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog near the bank of the river.
While planning for the second portfolio, I can say I wanted emphasis and symbolisms by using abstract yet relevant images that connect to the theme. Most items in this entire portfolio are made or produced by Jam Allaga. Collaboration and works from others are written in the description or credited.

SEALING what can’t be SEALED a community journalism
One thing fun for the vulca boys is getting high and straying away with sealants and adhesives.
JUAN LETTER WORLD Due to the modernization, drugs already have alternatives and users have become younger.
In
a wide quadrangle, there were group of boys aged eight to fourteen years old running around playing basketball. A resident in that area said something about adhesives and sealants while watching them play. There were stories shared by some residents about them. Vulcaseal boys or boys who sniff a brand of sealant are widely recognized. According to some of their neighbors, these boys use adhesives or sealants any time of the day to feel high. Aside from that, they also engage in riots and robbery. From the statement of these vulcaboys, they specified some activities they usually do. They said they don’t ‘always’ commit crime. Maybe they are involved on some disturbances in the community, but not to the point that the crime can already be considered heinous. At free time or
after class, they also do what normal kids do. They play basketball, go internet surfing, roam around the purok or just standby and do nothing. A thirteen-year-old member of the vulcaboys, Penny (not his real name), envision himself being successful in the future. “Gusto ko mag engineer pag dako. Gusto ko mag trabaho para daghan ug kwarta,” Penny said. (I want to be an engineer when grow up. I want to work and earn lots of money.) In the case of indulging in sealants and adhesives, Penny stated that he knows his limitation. “Kung naay riot ug mga bisyo, uban2x ra ko. Uban lang ko sa mga barkada,” Par said. (In cases when there are riots and vices, I just go with it. I accompany my friends.) “Pero dili nako anang grabe na jud (shabu and marijuana),” he added. (But I don’t use something more harmful)
The residents have pointed out some reasons why the youths in the community have become like this. Most of them believe that these children were neglected and their acts have always been ignored. Some of the boys have already given up their dream of attaining their desired life. Penny stated their everyday life with his family. A large part of his sharing was about poverty. ______________________________
ABOUT SEALING WHAT CAN’T BE SEALED -- a primer for Jam Allaga’s unfinished and unpublished stories. The section produces bits and quick tweets on social issues and matters that are still in process, stories that are still ongoing taken from on-field observation and research. A kicker for SNS on #JuanLetterWorld to read the rest of the stories,.

OPINION
The
United Nations, in its October 2012 report, said criminalization “increases vulnerability to HIV by fuelling stigma and discrimination” and suggested that Asian countries, including the Philippines, legalize prostitution. Various non-government organizations have intensified their anti– prostitution drive to address the growing number of trafficked women and children from this city. The group said more women and children are being recruited for prostitution outside the city, and this is the growing concern now. The city has an estimated 4,000 women and children involved in prostitution, the youngest of whom is nine and the eldest is 60, based on the record of the Talikala Davao last year. The figure is lower than the reported 6,000 of 2011. This is because some have already fled to other locations in the case of human trafficking. Further human rights violations such as the humiliation and rape of women and children brought about by such disguised
Her body is a
Commodity I once laughed at a quote from a woman saying “Bago ko sila mapakain, kakainin muna nila ako.” I didn’t really understand that at first. I thought she was just saying something about how hard it is to work in order to feed a child. But as I went out to actually converse with them, it was more than work; it was beyond selling their bodies. opportunity are main points I am worried about. The report stated that there is a better option of safer sex practices and preparation when prostitution is legalized through providing health and safety standards in the industry. “There is no evidence that decriminalization has increased sex work,” it said. But women’s rights organizations in the country have opposed the UN’s proposal. In contrast, employers of entertainment establishments are made responsible for guaranteeing that women are ensured under the threat of losing the former’s business licenses.
Prostituted women are required to submit to a periodic physical and medical check-up but customers are free to receive services even without any health clearance. As an assessment, social hygiene clinics are legally sanctioned and operated by the government. Therefore, any attempt to legalize prostitution manifests payment and a promotion to a thought that prostitution is a job that deals with women’s bodies as commodities for sale. Women are no longer blamed for immorality and pathology, but rather they are viewed as a negative statement of human resources for sexual services. If a country cannot provide its people with decent jobs, homes, regular meals and basic education, then women and children’s vulnerability becomes more pronounced as they are targets for profits in the sexual gratification business. Prostitution continues as one of the forms of violence against women. Prostitution is a violation against human rights that needs to be directed in a greater part of indigence in the country.

A life for a charity:
Fr. Pops’ endeavor He saw God in the eyes of the poor. He dedicated his time and effort helping the people of Arakan on their education, support system, land, and health services. Learning to be closer to the poor and the oppressed, he committed himself on a vision where there is a concrete connection between the church and the poor. What’s more heroic than devoting one’s life in the service of the people?
Fr.
ABOUT My first story was published in second issue of Atenews broadsheet A.Y. 2011-2012. Vol. 57, No. 5 Nov-Dec 2011, Page 11.
Fausto Tentorio placed his heart on his work towards social transformation. Inspired by the enthusiasm of the youth, he focused mostly on education because he believed the young people are the future. He felt that there was a need to build up their awareness so that education would suit not only personal interest but also the welfare of the people. Acting on what he believed in, Fr. Pops gave 3000 scholarships, provided school supplies, constructed 80 day care centers, and developed health services. He did not only develop the way of living of the people of Arakan, he also protected their territory. His objective was also to unite the farmers and the Lumads. There were two groups formed for the unity of these sectors: APPO (Arakan Peasants Progressive Organization) and TIKULPA (Tinananon –Kulamanon Lumadnong Panaghiusa). The unity involved in these groups and his advocates against mining and land grabbing put together could save their land to give way to their livelihood, culture, and other needs. He created a good way for the social welfare and the relation-
ships within the community. In his preceding years, he could have chosen to be somewhere else and taken the path where he could live his life comfortably a thousand miles away from the threats of being in strife. However, Fr. Pops was selfless. He chose to experience the life of the Lumads and the peasants. He lived a life that had a profound interaction with the community to bring about his projects for the people. In perceiving the totality of his works in his time, we can see that his life was not taken from him. He already bequeathed his life as early as he started growing his passion for the poor and continued to do so until his last breath. Many were touched by the life and he mission of Fr. Pops. This life is a distinct example of what God wants us to see. It’s a selfless endeavor for the gain of others. We hope to continue his vocation and give importance to what he died for. The outcome of all those years remains a motivation for the individuals he helped. Because for him, his dream is our dream, our struggle is his struggle. We are one: companions in building the Kingdom of God.
