Riyadh, with a population of 7.6 million spanning 1,554 km², is undergoing a monumental transformation led by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to establish it as a global cultural and economic hub. A centerpiece of this effort is the Riyadh Public Transport Project (RPTP), which includes the Riyadh Metro. This expansive system will feature six lines, 85 stations, and a network spanning 175 kilometers, seamlessly connecting key city areas such as the city center, King Khaled International Airport, and the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD). A Spanish consortium won the contract to construct and manage three metro lines, marking a historic achievement in Spanish engineering.
As a consortium member, Ayesa is responsible for the detailed design of two elevated stations at King Khalid International Airport for the new metro’s yellow line, connecting the airport to the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD). With a platform length of 70 meters, the design blends modern aesthetics with traditional elements, reflecting the Kingdom’s commitment to sustainability and modernisation. Ayesa excels in terminals and station design, particularly elevated stations with intermodal connections. Our design process covers layout, structural stability, architecture, passenger comfort, safety, and accessibility. Mechanical and electrical systems, including ventilation, lighting, and power distribution, are meticulously planned. Ayesa also ensure efficient passenger flow, seamless intermodal connections, and integration with the surrounding urban context. Using BIM (Building Information Modeling), Ayesa enhances coordination, reduces resource wastage, and minimizes costs across design, construction, and operations. The use of British Standards and advanced software for passenger dynamics analysis ensures precision and efficiency. Ayesa’s commitment to sustainability is enhanced through BIM, leading to positive environmental impacts.
The elevated station designs incorporate pedestrian walkways for seamless intermodal connectivity, enabling efficient movement between the metro and airport terminals. These features prioritise passenger convenience in mobility solutions.
