THE FACE OF HOME CONSTRUCTION

PARKINSON BUILDING GROUP

BILL PARKINSON, PARKINSON BUILDING GROUP, INC. Parkinson Building Group is a residential construction company focused on custom home building in Central Arkansas. Bill Parkinson founded the company after his home builder went bankrupt and he needed to finish his home. He wanted to create a company that was better than what he saw and experienced as the normal process for custom home building. The company has altered its structure over the last year to be a better resource for its clients and offer better service through a deeper level of oversight and communication. “We are constantly evolving toward a better tomorrow for our clients,” Parkinson said. “In our business it’s easy to keep doing things the way we have always done them, but through the restructuring of our team members and the implementation of the latest technology, we are revamping our customer’s experience. This is not only helping ensure that we capture the full scope of our clients’ vision, but also that we are able to communicate with them how that is affecting the build along the way. We are focused on guiding them through the building process. They are our first priority.” Parkinson Building Group has built more than a hundred completed homes, each distinctively different and customized to the client’s personalized lifestyle. “The building industry, while a challenging profession, is also extremely rewarding, especially when we get to help people reach their goals and fulfill their dreams. We feel it’s a privilege to get up and do it every day, and we truly love what we do.” Parkinson Building Group, Inc. • 501-954-8570 • www.parkinsonbuildinggroup.com /ParkinsonBldgGroup 60 . THE FACE OF NETWORK MARKETING

PLEXUS WORLDWIDE

REBEKAH FOWLKES, AMBASSADOR, PLEXUS WORLDWIDE Rebekah Fowlkes, an extrovert who loves people, thrives as an ambassador with Plexus Worldwide. Plexus is a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based company that offers health and wellness products which enable people to improve their lives and well-being. Fowlkes joined the company in 2013 when she started selling Plexus Slim, often referred to as “the pink drink,” a weight-loss supplement to help her and others keep their blood sugar levels stable. “My company offers cutting edge products that are leading the charge in gut health,” Fowlkes said. “Our cutting edge and award winning product lines are helping people see freedom from chronic pain, inflammation, weight loss, digestive issues and more.” With more than 550,000 entrepreneurial ambassadors worldwide, Plexus is among the world’s 40 largest directselling organizations and has been featured on the Inc. 500 list of fastest growing companies. Her iPhone allows her to easily manage a multi-million dollar business while still fulfilling her role as a wife and mother. She doesn’t employ the home-party philosophy or have a garage full of products; she calls herself the Amazon of Plexus. Customers can order from her website and the product will be shipped to their home in a matter of days. At the top level of Plexus Worldwide, Fowlkes continues to work as a corporate trainer for the company’s leaders and is a high performer who consistently appears as a top recruiter at her level. She has teams in the United States, Canada and Australia with nearly 30,000 ambassadors. She will be the first to tell you that you don’t have to be an extrovert to succeed at network marketing. But it takes hard work, a thick skin and a desire to invest in people that helps one rise above the fear of rejection.

THE FACE OF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL

PULASKI ACADEMY

KEVIN KELLEY, HEAD FOOTBALL COACH, PULASKI ACADEMY Pulaski Academy athletic director and head football coach Kevin Kelley has gained national intrigue for his unconventional philosophies. In basic terms, he wants his teams to keep possession of the ball, force turnovers, and limit penalties that stop his team or help his opponents. That’s not different from other football coaches. What is unorthodox about Kelley is how he puts his beliefs into practice. His style seems more likely to be found by kids playing video games than a professional on the sideline. With rare exception, his teams never punt, go for two after their first two touchdowns and after every score in close games, and onside kick until they have a 21-point lead over their opponents. Kelley developed his atypical style after analyzing statistical information on win probability. He found that teams that win the turnover battle win 80 percent of their games. So he employs the onside kick as a way to keep the ball away from opposing offenses. Even if his team is unsuccessful and his opponent gets better field position to start their drive, he believes his defense can make the stops needed to cause a change of possession. He also believes in making big plays on offense, after finding the team that made more plays of 20 yards or longer won 81 percent of their contests. While quick scoring strikes and gaining large chunks of field position reduce time of possession, big plays limit opportunities for his team to commit turnovers or have drives stalled by penalties. While his coaching is anything but traditional, it’s hard to argue against his results. Since becoming the Bruins head coach in 2003, his teams have won seven state championships in 15 seasons, including the last four straight. His successes have gained him national media attention. He has been featured on HBO Real Sports, ESPN, and been a speaker at MIT’s Sloan Sports Analytics Conference. Pulaski Academy is a college preparatory school founded in west Little Rock in 1971 that teaches children age two through high school. Pulaski Academy • 501.604.1910 • pulaskiacademy.org 60 . THE FACE OF MORTGAGE

FIRST ARKANSAS BANK & TRUST TAMMY TOMPKINS, VICE PRESIDENT, MORTGAGE DEPARTMENT MANAGER First Arkansas Bank & Trust was founded in 1949 when Kenneth Pat Wilson led a group of progressive individuals that saw a need for banking services in a community which had significant growth potential. The company began with just three employees as Jacksonville State Bank. In the early 1950s, Wilson and others helped the area land what is now Little Rock Air Force Base and opened a branch in its original exchange building. From there, the community bank opened new locations and made several acquisitions. Twenty years ago, the family-owned bank took its current name. Today, Wilson’s son, Larry Wilson, is FAB&T’s chairman of the board, president, and CEO, and his grandson, Mark Wilson, is a senior vice president and chief operating officer. FAB&T has 23 locations, was named a “Best-In-State” bank and one of the top 2% of banks in the entire country by Forbes, was recognized by the Institute for Extraordinary Banking as a “Banky” Award Winner, named as a “Best Places to Work” by Arkansas Business, and a multiple-time winner of the Military Bank of the Year. FAB&T’s entire mortgage lending staff is located at its Wildwood branch location in Sherwood, and all decisions are made in house by local underwriters. “We do have 3rd party options for specific product situations, if necessary,” said Tammy Tompkins, vice president and mortgage department manager. “We always look to see what the best fit is for our customer.” Tompkins said the best thing about working for FAB&T is the sense of family and community that is fostered in the organization. “We have worked hard to expand our product line with a wide variety of products to assist our customers with their home purchase need. We also partner with Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas and donate $100 to them for every loan we close!”. First Arkansas Bank & Trust • 800-982-4511 • fabandt.com /fabandt 60 . APRIL 2016

THE FACE OF FUNERAL HOMES

RUEBEL FUNERAL HOME JUSTIN T. WITTENBERG Ruebel Funeral Home is dedicated to the highest levels of service during the most difficult and painful times families can experience – when they're faced with the loss of a loved one. Ruebel strives to simplify the process of funeral planning and ease uncertainties with professional guidance, empathy, and warmhearted attention to detail. “Because everyone grieves differently, we serve individual needs and will do everything possible to simplify the process of planning a loved one’s final farewell,” said Ruebel’s president Justin T. Wittenberg. “We are compassionately committed to making every service special and unique to honor the life that has passed on.” Ruebel had its beginning in early 1901, and is the oldest funeral service establishment in the city of Little Rock. In 1953, George H. Wittenberg, Jr., acquired the funeral home from P.H. Ruebel. Today, the company serves families all over Arkansas and regularly goes to cemeteries and churches in the far reaches of the state. “I’m now the third generation Wittenberg owner of Ruebel,” Wittenberg said. “I tell my employees on a weekly basis, “Never tell a family NO.” It doesn’t matter how difficult a request might be we will always find a way to make it happen. We only get one take when helping our clients, and we have to make it happen when and how they want so that they can fully and effectively grieve the loss of their friend or family member. THE FACES OF RESIDENTIAL CLEANING

MOLLY MAID

REBECCA NASH, PRESIDENT, MOLLY MAID OF GREATER LITTLE ROCK & NORTHWEST ARKANSAS Shortly after she emigrated to the United States, Rebecca Nash joined Molly Maid of Greater Little Rock as a home service professional in January 2000. Although English was her second language, the franchise owners took note of her work ethic, saw potential in her, and promoted her to office manager. Five years after joining Molly Maid, she and investors in her family purchased the business, and have grown it into the second largest Molly Maid franchise in the United States. In April 2017, the opportunity to expand was presented, and the Silva-Nash family took their successful business model to northwest Arkansas. Today, it is one of the fastest growing Molly Maid franchises in the country. “Cleaning may seem like a luxury, but, truly, it’s a necessity,” said Rebecca Nash, president of Molly Maid of Greater Little Rock and Northwest Arkansas. “We know that we do not just clean, we provide time for our customers. They all depend on our work to make their life a little easier, and we are honored by that responsibility.” Molly Maid’s cleaning crews arrive in uniform with all the supplies needed to clean a home. While most customers receive recurring services weekly or every two weeks, the company does not have contracts with its customers. They are all free to suspend or cancel service at any time for any reason. Molly Maid’s charitable arm is the Ms. Molly Foundation which collects donated goods and funds for local shelters across the country. “We donate a portion of every cleaning fee every day of the year to the Dorcas House to support their mission to assist their clients and stop the vicious cycle of domestic violence,” Nash said. “We do our part to raise awareness of the most underreported crime in our nation.” Molly Maid of Greater Little Rock – 501-758-9996 Molly Maid of Northwest Arkansas – 479-802-5333 60 . THE FACES OF WINE

SASSAFRAS SPRINGS VINEYARD & WINERY GENE AND CHERYL LONG, OWNERS Sassafras Springs Vineyard and Winery was founded in January 2014 by Gene and Cheryl Long. The couple purchased former Razorback football coach Houston Nutt’s horse farm and turned from successful careers as insurance executives to create the winery and wedding venue on a beautiful 50-acre estate. The Longs renovated the farm’s original milk barn into a wine tasting room and converted the stables into an elegant reception center. The Chapel Ruins holds 300 guests and provides a very romantic setting for weddings or the perfect place for rehearsal dinners and receptions. Sassafras produces six varietals of wine, including Syrah, Chardonnay, Rose, and Riesling - around 1000 cases each year - and features a hybrid grape developed by the University of Arkansas. In addition to grape growing and wine making, the vineyard has become one of Northwest Arkansas’ premier destinations for weddings, receptions, and special events. The venue is open to the public for wine tastings every day except Monday. “People love their special times with us,” Cheryl Long said. “For three years in a row, we have won numerous awards for favorite winery and the best wedding venue.” “Plus, our customers talk to us,” Gene Long added. “They recently asked for an expanded food service at our winery, so we are adding a pizza oven and will now offer four specialty pizzas, salads, sandwiches, and desserts, in addition to our charcuterie and fromage boards.” Sassafras Springs Vineyard & Winery • 479-419-4999 • sassafrasspringsvineyard.com /SassafrasspringsvineyardSpringdale 60 . .APRIL 2016 96 NOVEMBER

THE FACE OF ARKANSAS TOURISM

EXPERIENCE FAYETTEVILLE

MOLLY RAWN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, EXPERIENCE FAYETTEVILLE Experience Fayetteville is the convention and visitors bureau for the city of Fayetteville. It is responsible for marketing the city to visitors and achieving a positive economic impact through tourism. It is the first point of contact for convention and meeting planners, sports tournament coordinators and tour operators. They oversee the visitors bureau and its store, as well as the Fayetteville Town Center, the Clinton House Museum, and the historic Walker Stone House. The organization was established through state legislation and has been in place since the early 1990s. Molly Rawn was hired as executive director in 2016. “The majority of our efforts are spent marketing and promoting our city outside the state, to encourage visitors,” Rawn said. “Our team is not afraid to try new, bold things and to think beyond the parameters of what is considered standard for a traditional convention and visitors bureau.” In addition to promoting Fayetteville as a tourism destination, the organization produces several local events and programs, including First Thursday, Lights of the Ozarks, Trick-or-Treat on the Square, and the Fayetteville Ale Trail.

THE FACE OF OPTOMETRY

OPTOMETRIC OPPORTUNITIES DR. T. N. RODMAN, II & ELVISA GWIN, OWNERS, OPTOMETRIC OPPORTUNITIES

Dr. T. N. Rodman, II, practiced optometry in Newport, Ark., for more than 34 years before he moved to Little Rock in 2006 to found Optometric Opportunities, a practice management company that administers, manages, and supports seven optometry practices in central Arkansas and three in northwest Arkansas. Elvisa Gwin joined Rodman as an administrator in 2014 and became a partner three years later. “Our mission is to offer professional optometric opportunities to both mature and newly graduated optometrists,” Rodman said. “Our companies offer our doctors and staff members organized, yet individualized, administrative services, structure, and support which in turn allows each clinic to be a standalone practice that’s responsive to its own individual community demographics.” With nine locations, Optometric Opportunities has grown into the largest optometry group in Arkansas. Each practice offers the most advanced examination and ocular medical technology available: visual field testing, laser scanning and photography of all parts of the anterior and posterior of the eye. “By using this advanced high-tech instrumentation our doctors can detect, diagnose, treat, and/or manage the most severe ocular diseases: dry eyes, ocular inflammations, corneal foreign bodies and abrasions, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, ocular emergencies and many others,” he said. In addition to offering ocular examinations and vision analyses, each location has full-service optical and contact lens departments. “We have an excellent selection of frames of all shapes, sizes, and price ranges to fit you. Our outstanding staff members have been specifically educated to be helpful, knowledgeable, professional and courteous when taking your precise measurements,” he said. 501-225-9944 • www.opt-opp.com 112 . THE FACE OF PROSTHETIC EYES AND FACIAL ANATOMY THE CENTER FOR ALLOPLASTIC FACIAL RECONSTRUCTION ARKANSAS ARTIFICIAL EYE CLINIC MICHAEL D. KACZKOWSKI For nearly thirty years, Michael Kaczkowski has created custom life-like anatomical restorations for the eye, face, and body for thousands of individuals missing anatomy from cancer, trauma, or congenital defects. His company, Alloplastic Reconstruction, was founded in 2011 by the merger of two organizations that offered different restoration technologies, in hopes of improving aesthetic anatomical restorations. “We’ve nearly tripled in patient care since the new formation, attracting a steady stream of patients from across the country and many foreign countries seeking our highly detailed, lifelike prostheses,” Kaczkowski said. “Whether they are children or elderly, these amazing individuals exhibit bravery on a daily basis beyond what the rest of us can ever imagine.” By the time the patients are referred to the clinic, they have usually gone through painful surgeries and traumas of all types. “Many of our patients have suffered from devastating cancers that leave them with missing facial anatomy. Our work enables patients to feel whole again, bringing a sense of closure to a long and painful journey.” Kaczkowski said many people would be surprised by the number of children in his care. “We work with tons of kids, and we love making them feel special. Most people do not realize how many children are born with facial disfigurement or eye defects. It is our privilege and honor to serve these children and their families.” Originally from New York, Michael started his career as an artist and inventor in Manhattan. He had a clinic in New York for several years that attracted an international clientele. When he moved to Arkansas, they followed him. “Getting patients to come to New York was one thing, but getting them to come to a small city like Little Rock is humbling.” Alloplastic Reconstruction • 501 265-0100 / 888 60-REALLIFE (toll free) • www.RealLifeFaces.com 60 . magine the life-changing words, "you have cancer" and then the bleak prospect of paying for housing while you seek treatment for radiation and chemotherapy. Since most of the state's medical facilities are in central Arkansas, that is a real challenge both financially and emotionally for patients outside the area. That is why the 20th Century Club exists today. On a quiet street south of the University of Arkansas for Medical Science (UAMS) and the Winthrop Rockefeller Cancer Institute lies a beautiful facility that looks like a nice extended-stay hotel. It is. Sort of. But at no cost to those cancer patients (and their caregivers) who qualify to stay there. The 20th Century Club began as a mission in the 1940s for assisting our servicemen during the second world war. It was 20 years later that the 20th Century Club began serving cancer patients. And it was in 2011 that the current facility on Maryland Avenue opened its impressive doors. Executive Director Elizabeth Clogston proudly says, "We have served patients from all 75 Arkansas counties and 26 different states with zero cost to the patient." The Club's cost to provide this free housing is $50 a night. Clogston continues, "The Lodge serves people who live at least 40 miles from their treatment center and are receiving treatment at any central Arkansas medical facility. Each patient brings a caregiver. The average patient and caregiver stay is 40 nights, but over 20 percent of patients stay 50 nights or longer." The activities and fellowship are two hallmarks of what the 20th Century Club's Lodge provides. Three nights a week a hot meal is enjoyed and served by the friendly volunteers, and one night a week is bingo night. A continental breakfast is available every day along with healthy snacks. The patient suites are luxurious with two beds, a breakfast area, microwave and refrigerator.

We have served patients from all 75 Arkansas counties and 26 different states with zero cost to the patient.

The 20th Century Club's Hope Ball is an annual mustattend event for Central Arkansas. The 20th Century Club's Hope Ball is an annual mustattend event for central Arkansans. It is a beautiful night of dinner, dancing and the presentation of the Hope Ball Angels. These are 11th-grade girls who have committed at least 25 hours of volunteer service to the organization. Each girl is escorted by her father or guardian and then has a father/ daughter dance before the dancing gets underway. It is the only time the organization asks for money all year. This night is crucial to the financial support of the 20th Century Club. It is often a time when people who don't attend still give financially through the "fund a night" portion of the evening. Donors give at least $50 to fund a night of housing at the Lodge. That often generates nearly $100,000 in donations to help with the tremendous cost for guests at the Lodge.
