Tummy Tuck Dr. Spann focuses on creating a flat, chiseled abdominal region. Fatty deposits in the abdominal area can be particularly challenging to eliminate with diet and exercise alone. Additionally, many individuals are faced with the frustrating aesthetic problem of abdominal skin laxity (loose, hanging skin), which can develop as a result of: genetics, childbirth, hormonal imbalances, age, and dramatic weight gain or loss. As with the abdominal fat pockets, abdominal skin laxity cannot be corrected simply by adopting a healthier lifestyle. Tummy tuck surgery offers an effective solution to both fatty deposits and skin laxity in the stomach region. A tummy tuck procedure involves the surgical removal of excess skin and fat from the lower and middle abdominal region, followed by the tightening of the abdominal musculature, which serves to create an enviably flat, smooth abdomen.

Dr. Eric J. Wright Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
Progressive Techniques Wright Plastic Surgery, which opened in 2018, is the private practice of plastic surgeon Dr. Eric J. Wright. Through his offices in the state, Wright offers both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery, including face and body rejuvenation, breast surgery — augmentation, revision and reconstruction — and the surgical management of complex wounds. The practice also offers post-weight loss procedures and non-surgical options such as BOTOX and dermal fillers. Wright is a board-certified plastic surgeon with the American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery where he serves on the educational committee. An Arkansas native, Wright began his journey by completing three undergraduate degrees at the University of Arkansas, graduating summa cum laude. He then went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where he graduated with honors in research in 2009 as a Barton Scholar and member of the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. After medical school, Wright decided to hone in on the art of plastic surgery. “The diversity of the surgical field of plastic surgery was a big factor in my decision to become a plastic surgeon. I enjoy the challenge, complexity and individuality of patient care in the field of plastic surgery,” Wright says. “It is the only surgical field that one can work on multiple types of patients and is not limited to one area of the body. Plastic surgery helps restore anatomy and function as well as aesthetically restoring the human body.” He later completed the top-rated six-year Stanford University Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Residency in Palo Alto, Calif., where he was able to train with nationally recognized surgeons. “It is the oldest integrated plastic surgery residency program, and I was able to train with pioneers in the plastic surgery field,” Wright says. “I was exposed to many research opportunities and surgical experiences at multiple Bay Area institutions along with international surgical experiences.” With a desire to continue refining his skills, Wright opted to complete an additional year of fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s historic teaching hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was able to get even more experience and the focus necessary to refine both his surgical and artistic skills in an aesthetic and reconstructive breast fellowship. During this time, he also served as a plastic surgery clinical instructor at Harvard Medical School. Because of this fellowship, Dr. Wright has acquired the most progressive techniques being used today in breast cancer reconstruction and revision surgery following breast augmentation. It was also during this period that he trained with surgeons in the evolving field of migraine surgery which he offers through his practice. Through Wright’s expertise and extensive training, Wright Plastic Surgery has become a highly-regarded practice with client reviews ranging from praise for the compassionate nature of the staff to the remarkable results from his procedures. A true gem in the industry of plastic surgery, it is a place that will make you feel more confident and secure about your procedure in the hands of the caring, accomplished professionals at Wright Plastic Surgery.

Hennard Custom Homes One of the most exciting up-andcomers in the custom home building industry is Hennard Custom Homes which is preparing to celebrate its tenth year building beautiful houses for a diverse client base. According to owner Dustin Hennard, the cornerstones of a successful homebuilding business are “Honesty, integrity and complete customer satisfaction. Building homes is truly a lost art with all the DIY and HGTV stuff floating around. If you want a truly great home, you need to find someone with a real passion and love for construction,” he says. Hennard Custom Homes provides comprehensive support for its customers’ needs from selecting and procuring lots, to designing, budgeting and scheduling the build. Hennard even gets down to the nitty-gritty with each individual client, selecting windows, doors, cabinets, fixtures and flooring. “Homebuilding is a culmination of thoughts and ‘creative juices,’ combined with the knowledge of how to achieve those dreams, making them into a tangible production,” says Hennard. Hennard believes that home building should be a completely collaborative process between builder and customer. That’s why he uses a local design firm to ensure quality, reliability and durability when building a sound and elegant structure that can stand the test of time. Through this, Hennard Custom Homes is able to ensure its buyers’ peace of mind. This extensive planning process prevents massive budget overruns, all while maintaining the beauty, integrity and accuracy of the client’s original vision. From the first ink on a blueprint to the last nail driven into a sideboard, Hennard Custom Homes walks with its clients through every step on the journey to homeownership. Hennard’s creativity, attention to detail and pure love for the process set his business apart from other contractors in the area, and it shows through in the homes he builds. “It’s all rooted in a love for the creative process,” says Hennard. “There’s no substitute for the feeling you get from seeing a thought transform into a creation.”

THE LATEST AND HOTTEST PLACE to live in Saline County is The Preserve at the Woodlands and the Bosley family is the mastermind behind its creation. Brennan Bosley and his brother, Chip, bought the 160-acred venture behind an area known as the Woodlands which the brothers wanted to stay true to when naming their new neighborhood — thus, The Preserve at the Woodlands was born. The first phase of development is 28 lots which range from about 1/3 of an acre up to 3 acres. And it’s not just the neighborhood entrepreneurialism that the Bosleys have polished their expertise. Builders by nature, Bosley Construction is a thirdgeneration company that residents of central Arkansas have trusted for decades, passed down from each Bosley son to the next. This building background has resulted in The Preserve’s latest residential amenities: 3.5 miles worth of nature trails, a playground, pavilion and walking track. Currently under construction is a resort-style community swimming pool with a tanning ledge which according to the Bosleys will make it the only neighborhood in the Benton School District with a swimming pool.

A GOOD DECORATOR WILL HELP SAVE YOU FROM OWNING ROOMS FULL OF MISTAKES THAT RESULT FROM RANDOM PURCHASES.
deco
So you’ve finally built your dream home. It’s got a vaulted foyer, floor-to-ceiling windows and cavernous walk-in closets that you could rent out as studio apartments. The floor plan is so open, there are literally no doors or dividing walls. You can even cook on your stovetop without ever leaving the living room sofa. However, what good is all this modern space if you don’t know how you’ll furnish it? Many of you may be asking, “Why should I hire someone else to decorate my home?” For our more skeptical readers, Debi Davis, interior designer, says “A good decorator will help save you from owning rooms full of mistakes that result from random purchases. You need a plan for your rooms and where pieces can realistically fit or go, and not everyone has that kind of expertise.” As for upcoming trends in interior design, Davis predicts a turn toward natural materials and colors, pointing specifically toward natural fibers like wicker, rattan and rope. She also sees warmer palettes coming into vogue, like dark leather and wood. Davis believes these elements are indicative of an increased interest in comfort over
corate 53
bare aesthetics. “The future of design is tied inextricably to comfort and practicality. With the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, you can’t afford to have a rug or couch that can’t handle spills or paw prints,” she says. Troy Rhodes of Stone Works agrees with Davis’ divination. For Rhodes, this means utilizing natural materials in new and interesting ways. “Obviously open floor plans are immensely popular, and people are starting to want more out of the arched overhead spaces that are taking the place of dividing walls,” Rhodes says. On those soft transitions between living spaces, Rhodes is finding new ways to add decoration. “We’re actually making those two-foot overhead walls into accents, adding stone sheeting and patterning to add to the home’s decor,” he says. However, potential amateur decorators should be wary of following single trends, which are as changeable as the wind. “Always remember a trend is a temporary direction. Design concentrates on a specific period of time, so remember to not overdo a certain trend when designing a new project,” says Davis. “I find that my clients are happier in the long run when I inject conventional designs with contemporary elements.” aymag.com

A Vehicle Wrap has a 90% retention rate and is seen up to 70,000 times per day.
GAME TIME WRAPS, a central Arkansas leader in the vehicle and sports floor industry, came into play in January 2017. Bob Sahr, co-owner of GameTime, owes his expertise to the many professionals who helped shape his professional career in graphics and floor coatings. After studying design at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, he joined the workforce in central Arkansas where he began a family and became employed with a large print house where he learned the basics in design and hi demand customers but mostly built an overwhelming understanding for the importance of customer service and quality of workmanship. From there, managing a powerhouse vehicle wrap shop in North Little Rock and extending his knowledge of wide format printing and an understanding of the Little Rock marketplace he grew into a position with a good friend and mentor named Chad Baker who co-owned a coatings company in Jacksonville. PoloPlaz sits atop the coatings industry, works regularly with the largest names in the flooring world and is a high-quality polyurethane manufacturer with whom GameTime still partners with today for its coatings systems. From this relationship was born the idea for a permanent vinyl graphics and coatings combination, the likes of which had never been successful in the flooring industry until now. Sahr’s friend said, “If you can make your vinyl stick to my polyurethane, you could be wealthy beyond your wildest imagination.” The patent-pending sealer and finish system that enables them to apply the graphics to basketball courts under the polyurethane finish is one of a kind. In fact, the specialized family of products are formulated to work only in conjunction with their system and doesn’t work without it. The shop also provides a number of recreational and marketing-based vehicle wrap services and large format graphics, such as wall graphics, floor graphics, storefront graphics, banners, posters and signage. “[Wraps] can increase your visibility and get your message on the road … The stats go something to the rate of 30,000 to 70,000 times daily — the number of times on average that a vehicle wrap is observed per day, with a 90 percent retention rate,” Sahr says. “If you don’t call GameTime Wraps, you’re truly leaving money on the table.”

A Simple Way to Read LED Light Bulb Labels Let’s talk about two intimidating terms on LED packaging: Kelvin and Lumens. They’re not nearly as complicated as they sound and (spoiler alert) you can mostly get away with ignoring them. Here are a couple of word tricks we use to remember what those two mean. Lumen is a measurement of brightness, or how much light a bulb gives off. (Both L words). Alternately, you can think of it as how much it will illuminate a space. More Lumens = More Light. Kelvin is a measurement of color temperature, or how warm (yellow) or cool (blue) the light is. The more Ks a bulb has the “kolder” the temperature will be. (Both K words … Sort of!) So, a 4000K bulb is cooler (bluer) looking than a 3000K bulb, while the 2700K is warmer (yellow). The good news is that most light bulb packaging still includes familiar shorthands. “Lumens” often correlates to a “wattage equivalent,” so if you’re currently using a 60-watt bulb in a fixture, you should be fine putting a 60-watt-equivalent LED in its place (typically around 800 lumens). There are exceptions, like specialty Edison-style LEDs that have a much lower light output. So, it’s helpful to double-check the lumens on the label. Kelvin also has a plain English correlation, and that is to terms like “warm white,” “soft white” or “daylight.” We invite you to Light Innovations for all your light bulb needs. Our knowledgeable staff will help you sort out which is right for you.

A Heritage Story
How an Arkansas-based building supply retailer continues to build relationships in the communities they serve. E.C. Barton and Company is a 100% employee-owned organization that originated in Jonesboro, Arkansas in 1885. Still headquartered in Jonesboro, the organization continues to grow after 135 years, in with 105 locations 17 states. Parent company to Barton’s (Lumber), Bargain Outlet, and Barton’s Surplus Warehouse, E.C. Barton & Company is proud of the relationships they’ve established through generations and is looking to build new ones.
Who is E.C. Barton & Company?
The Barton’s Lumber division is comprised of 11 full-service lumber and building material stores located in Arkansas and Missouri. The Barton’s stores accommodate both homeowners and contractors, or other professionals, with everything they need as they work to remodel or to build from the ground up. The discount retail division of the company spans 17 states, as Bargain Outlet in the Northeast and Barton’s Surplus Warehouse in the South/Southeast. The 94 stores in this division specialize in kitchens, baths, floors, doors, and windows at the guaranteed lowest price. Both homeowners and professionals will find the quality building products they need to remodel the interior of their home or business. This division is currently in a re-branding phase that will align the Bargain Outlet and Barton’s Surplus Warehouse names under one division. Within that project, a pilot has been running in select markets under the proposed name of Barton’s Home Improvement. Those markets will soon see the pilot stores changed to the heritage brand names (Barton’s Surplus Warehouse/Bargain Outlet) as the re-branding work continues. In a time where most retailers are slowing the growth of their physical footprint, demand for retail locations in the building supply industry continues to increase. While the company launched the eCommerce platform for the discount retail division in early 2019, it continues to see steady growth in brick-and-mortar locations. In 2019, the company added locations in Jacksonville, Florida; Havelock, North Carolina; Conway, Arkansas; and in Benton, Arkansas. The company anticipates additional growth in their home state for 2020 with a location opening in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Four to six more stores will open before the end of year in new markets for the company.
Proven Service for 135 Years
As an employee-owned organization, each employee (also called Partner) has a vested interest in the company. Customers can expect excellent service because each store Partner is also an owner. An additional benefit of an employee-owned organization is the tenure of the individuals that work there. Each year, the company celebrates several Partners who have achieved 40 years of service, and the average tenure is approximately eight years. This commitment benefits customer, providing a wealth of knowledge and expertise. Stores Partners also offer free, one-on-one design services to customers who are designing a new kitchen or bath. The process allows customers to see their dream project come to life on-screen as they test various layouts and products, before making a purchase. The design service is also available to all customers, any time of day, online at www.bartonshome.com.
For all of your remodeling or building needs, the E.C. Barton family of brands is your go-to building supplier retailer, offering the best prices, expert advice, and service that goes the extra mile. Find your store online.

ROBIN
TALKS
MORTGAGE By Dustin Jayroe
Central Arkansas’ unique mortgage expert is hitting the roads of social media hard on her quest to help people better understand the dry and complicated world of mortgage lending. Her YouTube Channel “Robin Reid” is buzzing with relatable and easy-tounderstand secrets of the industry that she says other professionals don’t want you to know. Now, Reid has officially launched a podcast that aims to do the same. She herself is an insider, having worked in the lending world for years, most recently for Fairway Independent Mortgage. Now an independent expert running Robin Talks Mortgage, she feels less hamstrung by some of the red tape that can exist within the industry and feels compelled to teach people and provide individuals with a better understanding of the processes. 77
And that is exactly what she does with this first podcast episode. Titled, “How to Correctly Fill Out a Mortgage Loan Application,” the episode is the first of a multi-part series completely devoted to explaining the ins and outs of buying a home, particularly filling out a loan application for “success and less stress.” “When it comes to mortgage applications, it’s all in the details,” Reid says. “And just understanding how to do it right … A lot of people don’t know how.” In Reid’s mind, a loan application process is made and broken by how it starts. The No. 1 place to begin is with your name. “If you go by, Bobby Junior … and you fill out your loan application as ‘Bobby Junior,’ [but] on your birth certificate and social security card it says ‘William Robert, Jr.,’ that is not the same. “So, when you fill that out like that and we pull your credit report, now there are all kinds of alerts. Not to mention, when we verify documentation … we have your driver’s license, your social security card and your application that do not match. Your tax returns do not match. Nothing matches. It’s complete confusion.” According to Reid, these rudimentary mistakes happen all too often and can be some of the most frustrating and delaying for both the applicant and the processor. “If you want to have a wonderful application, the first thing would be to look at your documentation,” Reid advises. “Look at your W-2, your tax returns, your driver’s license, your addresses … If the names do not match, then try to get them to match, or similar to match, before you do an application. If you are in a really big time crunch, then make sure that your application matches your social security number, and let your loan officer know.” The same scenario would arise if you are in the process of getting married or divorced which can be some of the most common times for people to be looking at buying a home. But this simple disconnect between official records and your application can stall significantly the entire process, and keep you from getting into your new home when you want to. More information on important loan-related topics can be found on her platforms: @Robinspondering on Twitter, on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ lenderinyourpocket and “Robin Reid” on YouTube. aymag.com

IT’S TIME TO GET STARTED IN ORDER TO BE READY FOR SUMMER! If you’re shaving, plucking and waxing, you can stop! And if you’ve heard how painful laser hair removal is, you can forget that too! The Lumenis LightSheer laser hair removal is fast, efficacious and offers maximum patient comfort. LightSheer is 75% faster than the average hair reduction session and features the unique HIT and ChillTip technologies for state of the art comfort.
Laser Hair Removal
Multiple treatments are required to achieve permanent hair reduction. The laser targets hair follicles that are in their early growth (anagen) phase and not all hairs are in the same phase at the same time. Nothing removes all hair forever and ever. You will need a touch up occasionally. That may be in a couple of years, or if you suffer from hormonal conditions like PCOS you may need them more than once a year. LightSheer uses a state-of-the-art 805nm diode laser, which ensures safety for all skin types. The HIT technology incorporates suction to elevate and gently stretch the skin. In doing so the laser achieves maximum absorption into hair follicles and the ability to cover larger areas more quickly. The ChillTip technology is a cooling system that even further enhances comfort. Schedule your Laser Hair Removal treatment today!

An Arkansas ESCAPE – By Heather Baker

The Baker Family.
We have heard several times lately from friends that if you haven’t been to Bentonville in a while, you probably should check it out. So, the Baker clan hit the road and set out for what would end up being one of the most incredible “long weekends” we have had in a long time — exploring new places here in Arkansas. First, I must say that it was one of the easiest and most convenient trips that our family has ever planned. We didn’t have to worry about blocking off a huge section of our time (which is priceless for us Bakers); it was simply a three-day trip bookended with a short drive from our home outside of Little Rock to the northwest corner of the state.
When we arrived in Bentonville, check-in for the weekend was at the 21c Museum Hotel in Bentonville, a dual hybrid of art and lodging. Many visitors of the region and beyond flock to the facility every day to see the unique exhibits, but we were fortunate to have the opportunity to stay in the hotel portion of the building. It was immaculate in every way. 21c is actually modeled after the award-winning flagship hotel in Louisville, Ky., which is a really neat place for the state to have. Our room was stunning, spacious and trendy, and actually included a blacklight wand for guests to see just how neat and clean it really is, beyond

RA IS JUST THE BEGINNING FOR RHEUMATOLOGIST IT’S MORE THAN RA.
Swetha Boddeda, M.D., is quick to remind that her specialty, rheumatology, is much more than the name implies. In addition to rheumatoid arthritis, rheumatologists diagnose and treat as many as 100 different musculoskeletal and systemic autoimmune diseases commonly referred to as connective tissue diseases. “I treat a wide variety of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases like lupus, Sjogren’s syndrome, scleroderma (systemic sclerosis), dermatomyositis, polymyositis, polymyalgia rheumatica, septic arthritis, sarcoidosis, gout and pseudogout gout, fibromyalgia and others,” says Boddeda, a rheumatologist with Conway Regional Health System. Rheumatology is a field that works in close relationship with every specialty. “No presentation is straightforward. Referrals are passing back and forth between specialties to make a diagnosis,” says Boddeda. Boddeda, a native of India, describes herself as a patient listener who thinks “outside the box” in a medical specialty that is filled with hard-to-diagnose diseases. “My patients tell me that they have found a doctor who is listening to them. That makes me feel good and motivates me to be a better doctor,” she says. Once she interviews a patient, the diagnosis process begins. “It starts with blood work, depending on what symptoms the patient has, and sometimes we get x-rays or biopsies,” she said. Boddeda is often part of the treatment team and works closely with radiologists and laboratories. Extensive education helped prepare her for a career as a medical detective. Boddeda achieved her internal medicine residency training at the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie. She went on to complete her Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, where she received the SAFMR
145
Fellow merit award. Boddeda was selected for the Young Investigator Research Travel Award in 2019. After her fellowship, Boddeda was searching for a practice close to her husband, Neal, who is completing a medical fellowship in hematology/oncology in Shreveport, La. She learned that a number of rheumatology patients in Faulkner County were spending most of a day driving back and forth to doctors’ offices in Little Rock. She moved the couple’s two daughters, Kriti and Vibha, to Conway and joined the Conway Regional Multispecialty Clinic. She already had several patients on her appointment schedule when she began practice in December of 2019. “I know I can make a difference here,” says Boddeda. While searching for answers for their discomfort, many patients are unaware that they have a connective tissue disease or the disease is mistaken for something else. There are a few general symptoms of connective tissue disease to watch for: “I recommend for my patients to watch out for any symptoms like unexplained fevers or unintentional weight loss, skin rashes that are not easy to figure out, and swollen joints as potential symptoms for autoimmune disease,” adds Boddeda. “Timely diagnosis is important. These diseases are prone to cause significant organ damage if not caught in the early stages.” She urges people with unusual medical symptoms to “take it seriously. Go see your family doctor.”
FIBROMYALGIA NOT A ‘MADE-UP DISEASE’
A common and painful connective disease is fibromyalgia. “The clinical diagnosis for fibromyalgia is not challenging, but not every treatment works the same way for every patient,” says Boddeda. She does have to overcome the myth that fibromyalgia is a “madeup disease.” Boddeda says fibromyalgia can be diagnosed based on certain clinical symptoms: Pain and tender areas, fatigue, sleep issues, concentration and memory problems called “fibro fog,” anxiety and depression, morning stiffness, numbness and tingling of the hands, arms, feet and legs and headaches. Treatment can include exercise, weight loss, massage, yoga and Tai Chi. “Some of my patients are doing well with Tai Chi,” she says. “Recently, there has been evidence that cognitive behavior therapy is helpful.”
RA CAUSES SWOLLEN, HOT JOINTS
Rheumatoid arthritis is another common disease treated by Boddeda. “People with RA have very swollen and warm fever-like joints,” she says. “If left untreated it can cause crippling deformities over a number of years.” The difference between RA and mechanical or standard arthritis is that it improves with activity. “People with RA need to be as active as possible,” she said. Treatment can include medication and lifestyle modification such as quitting smoking and alcohol abuse and weight loss. From rare conditions to RA or fibromyalgia, Dr. Swetha Boddeda and fellow rheumatologists are thinking outside the box to find new ways of treating connective tissue disease. “I have no choice; they are trusting my diagnosis and judgment.” aymag.com

Introducing a complete health system centered on creating a better state of health for every Arkansan.
You’ll find us in every corner of the state. We care for you through our hospital and clinics as well as deliver specialty care through our digital health connections — allowing patients to be seen by a UAMS health care provider without leaving home. For 140 years, you’ve known UAMS as the state’s health care leader… where the brightest minds deliver advanced treatments. What started with one campus in Little Rock in 1879 has evolved into a multi-campus clinical delivery system that includes regional campuses strategically placed across the state with plans to add more. More than a hospital. More than a health sciences university. And more than cuttingedge research. We are an integrated health system — one that serves all of the state, ensuring better access and, ultimately, a better state of health for each and every Arkansan.
