JESSICA BUBBUS

OCCUPATION: CHIEF BUN TOASTER (AND WHATEVER ELSE I CAN HELP WITH), DAVID’S BURGERS EDUCATION: MUSIC AND ACCOUNTING, OUACHITA BAPTIST UNIVERSITY SHERIDAN DAVID’S BURGERS (OF COURSE) With six boys to wrangle and many more burgers to be made for hungry patrons, Jessica Bubbus has become a queen in the art of multitasking. In addition to founding David’s Burgers, she and her husband, Alan, have also been very involved in both fostering and adopting children in need of good homes, as they have adopted three of their six children. Full hearts and full bellies abound in the Bubbus home.

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: Our business is about people. Certainly, we want to serve high-quality burgers, but our customers and employees are our real target. We want to help provide encouragement and hope one burger at a time. My career is most fulfilling when I think about our partnership with The CALL and helping raise awareness about the critical need for foster families.

‘‘

SURPRISING FACT: I used to sing opera.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB:

WE LOVE BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVED US. — 1 JOHN 4:19

Getting to know our employees and our guests. Everyone comes from a different place, and I am always inspired by those who have worked hard against the odds to succeed.

REMEMBER ME FOR: I am so thankful for The CALL and the impact it has had on our family and other families in Arkansas. I want to be remembered as one who shined a light on others, especially the sweet kids who are in desperate need of foster and adoptive families.

ADVICE FOR OTHERS: It’s all about working hard and encouraging others along the way. In order to have true success, we need to use what we have been given to encourage others to do great things.

LORI GARCIA

OCCUPATION: DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS, NOYDEEN BEAUTY LICENSED AESTHETICAN DES MOINES, IOWA TIO’S Driven by a desire to be there for others in every aspect of her life, Lori Garcia is as selfless as they come. She feels supreme pride and adoration for her children and theirs (her “glam-babies”) and draws inspiration from them at each and every turn. With a full heart, Garcia lives life to the fullest — making memories and always learning how to enjoy each day even more than the last.

FIRST BIG BREAK: I feel like every day that I have a client in my chair is my first big break.

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: Dealing with skin issues as an adolescent, I knew I didn’t want anyone else to struggle as I did. I wanted to be that person who understood and also felt the same pain. I want to give my clients hope through my own struggles and show them first hand that change is possible.

‘‘

SURPRISING FACT: I have been a foster parent and an associate youth pastor.

THE POOREST PERSON IN THE WORLD ISN’T SOMEONE WITHOUT MONEY, IT’S SOMEONE WITHOUT A DREAM. 83

REMEMBER ME FOR: Being a safe place that nurtured the concerns of people’s hearts.

PERSON YOU MOST ADMIRE: My kids, because I love their boldness, their drive and that they aren’t afraid of what anyone thinks. They have the ability to not let the power of suggestion influence their decisions or corrupt their beliefs. I admire that about each of them.

DEBBIE GOODWIN

OCCUPATION: OWNER, ARKANSAS ROOFING KOMPANY, EQUINOX LOUVERED SOLAR PATIO COVERS, ARKANSAS OUTDOOR CONCEPTS EDUCATION: M.S.U BUSINESS/HORTICULTURE ROMEO, MI Debbie Goodwin stretches her talents across a wide range of endeavors and would tell you herself that life “is a balancing act.” But despite the accolades and priding herself on being someone you can trust with your roof, the main theme of her life is using these talents to bring honor and glory to God.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Definitely my amazing husband and kids are on top. Apart from my family, being recognized as the winner of the Conway Chamber’s 2016 Outstanding Woman in Business, Faulkner County Remarkable Woman in Business, a finalist for the Person of the Year and the city of Conway’s 2015 Business of the Year were incredibly humbling and gratifying.

SURPRISING FACT: Working and living in Grand Cayman changed and challenged me to research and expand my horticultural and business focus. I have written articles for various newspapers and magazines about gardening and hold many exercise and dance instructor’s certifications.

‘‘

REMEMBER ME FOR: Being a woman of God, first and foremost. My faith is paramount and takes priority over everything else in my busy life.

FAVORITE HOBBIES: All water sports and giving back and helping to heal humanity. My husband and business partner, Tim, and I have mentored as Connect, Merge, Marriage and Life group leaders and partner with the Arkansas Dream Center, Bethlehem House, Shakespeare Theatre and Renewal Ranch.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: Our standards and respect for all. We use greencertified “Malarkey shingles,” and we lead the industry in “no-mess roofing.” At Arkansas Outdoor Concepts, our Amish Poly furniture is made from recycled milk jugs. Our Equinox Louvered Roof is a solar-powered patio covering. We are leaving an ecological footprint. I’m even a biophilic design instructor.

KIM HENDERSON

OCCUPATION: VICE PRESIDENT OF INFORMATION SYSTEMS, ARKANSAS BLUE CROSS AND BLUE SHIELD EDUCATION: B.S., ARKANSAS STATE UNIVERSITY, NORTHWESTERN EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM HARRISBURG SONNY WILLIAMS’ STEAK ROOM Kim Henderson has over 37 years of health information technology experience and is responsible for all aspects of information systems operations for Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She uses her long record of expertise not only for the advancements of her company but also as an advocate for high school girls to gain interest in information technology (IT). Henderson is a board member at a number of institutions around the state and a proud “nana” to her 22-month-old grandson.

FIRST BIG BREAK: I was given an opportunity to lead a large IT project that impacted Medicare claims processing applications for 24 states. This gave me the chance to prove I had leadership skills in addition to my technical skills, which ultimately led me down this path.

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: The emergence of computers in the workforce attracted me to this career. I felt like it was a path that would be challenging and provide a lot of opportunities. I am very competitive and love challenges.

‘‘

MOST ADMIRABLE QUALITY IN WOMEN: I love seeing women who are gracious, courageous and (most of all) with the ability to juggle career and family.

HARD WORK BEATS TALENT WHEN TALENT FAILS TO WORK HARD.

PERSON YOU MOST ADMIRE: My grandma, Ruby, for teaching me the value of hard work. She was tireless and worked harder than anyone I have ever met.

ADVICE TO OTHERS: Challenge business as usual, outwork your competition and never say “that’s not my job”.

CRYSTAL JOHNSON

OCCUPATION: CEO, BATESVILLE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE EDUCATION: CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPER (PCED) 2018 GRADUATE INSTITUTE FOR ORGANIZATION MANAGEMENT (IOM) MASTER’S DEGREE IN COMMUNITY AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT, GRADUATE, LEADERSHIP ARKANSAS AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (CDI). BATESVILLE A native of Northwest Arkansas, Crystal Johnson has often wondered why God created the path for her that led to Batesville. Content with leaving the planning to Him, Johnson has devoted her time to building a sense of community in her new residence and leading every day with an open heart to make the best decisions possible for Independence County.

ADVICE TO OTHERS: The best advice I have ever received and try to give is to “sleep on it”. There have been many times when I have encountered a problem where I regretted my quick response. I say this at least once a week, “if you have time to give it time, sleep on it. It might feel different tomorrow.”

REMEMBER ME FOR: I hope I will be remembered for the dedication and love I have given to my community and family.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: I love a good challenge and overcoming barriers that sometimes seem too big to move. It keeps me very motivated and excited about my work.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: We have had the opportunity to work with amazing partners which has allowed us to make significant strides in providing opportunities for all students in the state of Arkansas through the establishment of the Arkansas Concurrent Challenge Scholarship Program.

BRITTANY GOINGS MARSH OCCUPATION: OWNER, CORNERSTONE PHARMACY (LITTLE ROCK) CABOT CORKY’S Brittany Marsh has always loved the medical field. Growing up in Cabot, she wanted a career that would be great for a working mom. She chose pharmacy, and it clearly agrees with her. At this writing, she’s awaiting the birth of a son, and her firstborn isn’t even two yet! Cornerstone Pharmacy on Rodney Parham Road was her first pharmacy job 11 years ago, and it’s the very pharmacy she owns today.

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: I was attracted to pharmacy because it was a great avenue for me to have a family while fulfilling my desire to impact lives through medicine. I also loved the idea of having my own small business. Pharmacy also afforded me the opportunity to live this dream.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: I am most proud of my little girl (and soon to be little boy)!

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: I love the ability to help customers on a day-to-day basis. I love networking with other pharmacists and coworkers. And I love running a local business – a dream I’ve always had!

‘‘

QUALITY YOU MOST ADMIRE IN OTHER WOMEN: Passion. I love seeing women have a passion for something. Whether it be a passion for a profession, a passion for staying home with babies, or just a passion for day to day life. Watching women strive for their dreams and interests in something is an undeniable emotion.

PERSON YOU ADMIRE MOST: My mom. We have always had the best relationship, and she has taught me how to stay positive, dream big and put a smile on your face.

EMILY MCCORMACK

OCCUPATION: ANIMAL CURATOR AT TURPENTINE CREEK WILDLIFE REFUGE OSWEGO, NEW YORK THE LION KING Emily McCormack has a heart of gold and an optimistic spirit to find the best in each day put in front of her. When she is not too busy saving animals, she enjoys kayaking and fishing the White River with her two pooches, Eli and Olivia, who are (of course) also rescues.

FIRST BIG BREAK: Earning an internship opportunity at Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge (TCWR) directly after obtaining my bachelor’s degree, then becoming the sanctuary’s animal curator. It was a dream come true because I’d always known that I wanted to work with tigers!

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: As a child, I had always dreamed of working with tigers, and the post-university opportunity to do that with TCWR was surreal. But after learning about the harmful nature of the exotic animal trade, it became — and continues to be — my goal to help save the big cats from neglect and abuse.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: I’m most proud of having a hand in designing and constructing the natural habitats we’ve built that give our residents the freedom and life they deserve, and of being part of an amazing sanctuary that provides the best life possible for animals in need.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: It is absolutely heartbreaking to see such majestic creatures fearful because of abuse. So the most rewarding part of my job is rescuing animals in need and providing them with a safe, caring environment that allows them to trust again.

PERSON YOU MOST ADMIRE: I admire my mother — my best friend. She sacrificed a lot to take care of my two sisters and me when we were young, and she continues to support my goals. She encourages me to think of others before myself, which is what actually motivated me to become a strong voice for animals in need.

NICHOLE OSTNER MCGEORGE OCCUPATION: PRINCIPAL, SEQUENCE EVENTS LITTLE ROCK TRIO’S From planning corporate events, company picnics, non-profit events and festivals for her company, Sequence Events, to raising her two sons with her husband Keith, Nichole McGeorge doesn’t live an idle life. She finds joy in each and every moment of it, but none more so than when she is at home with her family.

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: I fell in love with event planning and management after being in the Junior League of Little Rock and serving on the Riverfest committee. When the opportunity arose last year to start my own event planning company, I jumped at the chance.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: I would have to say being an owner of two small businesses in Little Rock. Owning your own business is challenging at times but the feeling of accomplishment makes it all worth it.

MOST ADMIRABLE QUALITY IN WOMEN: Strength and courage. Whether it be in business, motherhood or life, women never cease to amaze me. When we put our minds to something, nothing can stand in our way.

PERSON YOU MOST ADMIRE: My grandmother, Dorothy Ostner. She was one of the strongest women I have known. She taught me that kindness will get you further in life and to pick your battles; some things are not worth arguing over. Find what you’re passionate about and fight like hell for it.

ADVICE TO OTHERS: Success isn’t something that is achieved overnight, and it’s not always measurable in dollars. Work hard and focus on your goal. One day you will wake up and realize you are living your dream.

REBECCA NASH

OCCUPATION: PRESIDENT, MOLLY MAID OF GREATER LITTLE ROCK AND MOLLY MAID OF NORTHWEST ARKANSAS VALLADOLID, YUCATAN, MEXICO A native of Spain who moved to Mexico, Rebecca Nash came to this land of liberty to provide for her family. Since buying the local Molly Maid franchise nearly 15 years ago and the Northwest Arkansas franchise just two years ago, she’s attained success and accolades from her peers. But her greatest accomplishment is her family, and since she considers her employees family, Rebecca is one proud mama.

FIRST BIG BREAK: I was looking for a job to help provide for my kids and help my husband with the bills, as we all agreed on working hard together to move forward in life, when I found a job at Molly Maid as a home service professional in January of 2000. Six weeks later, I was asked to work in the office as the office manager and in 2005, the Kimbrough family was selling the franchise and we were blessed to be the first considered.

BEST PART OF THE DAY:

‘‘

The best part of my day is when all of our team members are home and when we have taken care of all of our customers for that day.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT:

WHEN YOU ARE FINISHED CHANGING, YOU’RE FINISHED. — BENJAMIN FRANKLIN 97

Easy – raising my four children. I am so proud of seeing their accomplishments and how driven they are to be better people everyday.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: I love the difference we make in our customers’ homes and in the lives of our team members. I believe that we do much more than provide a cleaning – we provide time and it’s so crucial that we get it right for every customer.

YVETTE PARKER

OCCUPATION: DIRECTOR OF MARKETING, BEN E. KEITH FOODS MID-SOUTH CARMEL, CA It might suprise people to hear that Yvette Parker, a lover of all things in the Natural State, isn’t a native Arkansan. Though she fiercly loves what our state has to offer, she was born and raised in a state known for its temperate climate and picturesque beaches. She’s a Cali girl, having been raised in the same town where Clint Eastwood was mayor and then moved on to San Francisco for college. She might have a yearning for her roots, but she sure loves the outdoors in Arkansas.

NICKNAME: Pixie.

BEST PART OF YOUR DAY: Lunch! Working for Ben E. Keith Foods gives me the opportunity to try every customer we serve, and I think I have eaten at almost every locally owned restaurant in Arkansas.

SURPRISING FACT: I am an avid outdoorswoman. I enjoy hunting dove, duck, deer, squirrel and frogs and am always up for a night under the stars.

MOST ADMIRABLE QUALITY IN WOMEN: Resilience.

‘‘

FAVORITE HOBBIES: Travel. I’ve been to 26 countries, and I’m constantly looking for my next adventure.

DONNA TOWNSELL

OCCUPATION: DIRECTOR OF INVESTOR RELATIONS, CENTENNIAL BANK & HOME BANCSHARES EDUCATION: BACHELOR OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION, MARKETING, UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL ARKANSAS CONWAY A lifelong native of Conway and a tenured leader at Centennial Bank of more than a decade, Donna Townsell lives her life by one of her mottos, “bloom where you are planted.” Townsell is also a member of the College of Business Advisory Board at the University of Central Arkansas, was Conway’s Women in Business Diamond Achievement winner in 2018 and is a proud sports mom to her daughter, Riley.

FIRST BIG BREAK: After being at the bank for only six months, I was approached by a senior executive to run a corporate-wide program. The goal was to improve our efficiency ratio which measures how many pennies it takes to make a dollar. This metric grew in profile in the banking industry after the 2008 financial struggles. I led a team of 76 people, and we implemented 250 initiatives which ultimately led to our goal of a sub-forty efficiency ratio (from 65 percent to 37 percent).

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Being the first woman to be named to both the Centennial Bank and Home BancShares board of directors. I am also very proud of my daughter.

‘‘

SURPRISING FACT: I ran in the Junior Olympics as a sprinter when I was 14 years old.

REMEMBER ME FOR: Being thoughtful and being a great mom.

ADVICE TO OTHERS: Be the person your boss thinks of when they need something done. If you continue to deliver results, your name will be top of mind when the next opportunity comes around.

KAREN TREVINO

OCCUPATION: SR. VICE PRESIDENT & COO, NORTH LITTLE ROCK CONVENTION & VISITORS BUREAU EDUCATION: MASTER’S IN TOURISM, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT, CERTIFIED CULINARY TRAVEL PROFESSIONAL, CERTIFIED TRAVEL INDUSTRY SPECIALIST RISTORANTE CAPEO Karen Trevino is one of the most accomplished and seasoned veterans of the hospitality sector in Arkansas, having dedicated more than 40 years of her life to the industry. Her fingerprints can be found in virtually every travel and tourism organization throughout the state, most of which she credits to her Type A personality and her successful fight against breast cancer which taught her to never take a day for granted.

FIRST BIG BREAK: I was called for an interview and found out later that it was because the employer had interviewed me for a job at a different business; she had taken my resume with her when she became the Director of the Department of Parks & Tourism. I’ll always be grateful to Jo Luck for recognizing my potential.

‘‘

LOVE WHAT YOU DO, DO THE BEST YOU CAN, ALWAYS STRIVE TO MAKE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE.

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: I have a knack for making connections with people — very good skills to have in this industry! Tourism is not just a career, it’s my passion.

PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT: Besides a successful marriage (35 years!), two wonderful daughters and two fabulous grandchildren? Professionally, it was being recognized by the tourism industry and my peers at the Governor’s Conference on Tourism in 2011 as the Arkansas Tourism Person of the Year.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: I absolutely love the relationships that I’ve built in the tourism industry with people all over the world! It’s a great joy to make new friends, visit new places and share my life in travel and tourism.

REMEMBER ME FOR: Leading my life with love and joy of new discovery, that I gave my all to everything I did and that I showed by example the traits that are important to me — hard work, honesty, strong ethics and the interest in always learning something new.

LAILA WHITING

OCCUPATION: AESTHETIC NURSE INJECTOR, RN AND MENTAL HEALTH NURSE, RN LONOKE CIAO BACI Laila Whiting has found her passion in serving others. After losing her sister to suicide while she was in nursing school, she made it a mission to help people see their potential and worth so that others are not met with a similar tragedy. She is also a proud mother and recently wed, living her happily ever after.

ATTRACTION TO CAREER: I knew from a young age that I was called to help others. Becoming a registered nurse has taken me one step closer in my journey to becoming the strong woman I strive to be in order to better serve my community.

MOST ADMIRABLE QUALITY IN WOMEN: Humility. How you carry yourself speaks volumes about your character. The most admirable women I know are that way because they focus on how they can continue to grow gracefully.

FAVORITE PART OF YOUR JOB: Every day I can come to work knowing that I will have the opportunity to improve a patient’s mental health. For some, I improve their aesthetic profile to boost their confidence, others by taking a moment to listen to their struggles, and then teach them how to cope and treat their mental health. I have learned that most patients often just need a non-judgmental ear and a smile.

FIRST BIG BREAK: The day I realized my accomplishments were based on the effort and the sacrifice I was willing to put forth. You can change your life with your thoughts!

PERSON YOU ADMIRE MOST: My mother. She was a single mom who raised two girls on her own, all while pursuing her master’s degree and a career as a neuroscientist. I was inspired by watching her work tirelessly in her lab, often spending nights on the floor while she worked on publications and grants. She always worked hard and made many sacrifices because she knew the blessings that her research could create. She now works as a life science research professional at Stanford School of Medicine.
