Welcome to a new season at Haywood Way. The club has been busy over the past year improving the ground and the clubhouse as well as rebuilding our Under 18s and a new Development team playing in the Suburban League. The first team boys have worked hard in what has been a bit of a disrupted pre season with covid isolations and the injuries that come from fitness due to lack of football over the past season, but we can now look forward to the season ahead with a near fully fit squad all fired up and raring to go! Our thanks for out to the coaches and managers of all teams to ensure the boys are ready, as well as our army of volunteers who have given hundreds of hours of their free time to help make the club a more enjoyable place to be. Thank you all, and we hope we can do you proud on the pitch as well. Mike Borrett AVDFC Chairman.

Dynamos HISTORY Aylesbury Vale Dynamos is an amalgamation of Aylesbury FC and Bedgrove Dynamos, two local clubs with a rich history in local football. Aylesbury FC enjoyed a long history in senior and junior football dating back to the 1930’s under the previous names of Aylesbury Vale, Haywood United, Belgrave, Stocklake and Negretti and Zambra FC, which was founded in the 1930’s by workers at the Negretti and Zambra company then based in London’s King Cross district. The company moved to the Stocklake Industrial Estate, Aylesbury. in 1949 and by the mid 50’s the premises had a bar, football, cricket and tennis facilities. The football club joined the Aylesbury District League in 1954. The social club changed its name to Stocklake when Negretti and Zambra sold the premises to the local council, who then leased the facilities; hence the different sections adopted the name Stocklake. Under the guidance of Chairman Mr Ernie Crotty, the club gained many honours including runners up in ADL’s top divisions, before gaining intermediate status in the Wycombe and District League first and senior divisions. Sadly Ernie was killed in a road accident just before the club moved premises to the present location at Haywood Way in 1987. After gaining senior status and promotion to the Chiltern League in 1988, Stocklake enjoyed many further successes including Division One runners up in 1991, Premier Division and League Cup runners up the following season and Wycombe Senior Cup success in 1995. Cup success was also followed on in the following season, this time the Berks and Bucks Intermediate Cup being added to the trophy cabinet. Belgrave FC was formed in 1983 by Jim Sullivan who lived in nearby Belgrave Road. Jim had two sons who were passionate about football but were limited to where they could play, so formed a team himself with the help of neighbours Lynne and David Hatcher. By 1990, under the guidance of Danny Martone, Belgrave had grown to five youth teams providing football for over ninety boys from the Quarrendon and Haydon Hill areas of Aylesbury. 1996 saw the forming of two senior teams under the Belgrave FC name and by the turn of the millennium teams were represented at all levels from Under 8’s through to seniors, At the start of the 2000/2001 season, the senior Belgrave FC team was renamed Haywood United following an amalgamation with Stocklake FC with Danny Martone voted in as chairman of the new club. Haywood United joined the Spartan South Midlands League and won promotion into Division One after two seasons. Notable achievements during the 2001/2002 season included league awards for the best kept and most improved ground; this included the erection of floodlights and perimeter fencing, which Danny and his hard working committee fought hard to establish. Season 2002/2003 saw a difficult start in Division One, but with the arrival of manager Jon Franklin and his assistant Keith Walker just after Christmas, the club eventually consolidated finishing in 9th place. Promotion was gained to the South Midlands Premier Division the following year after a campaign that saw 23 wins, 7 draws and only 4 losses. Haywood United proved themselves capable of staying in the Premier Division after finishing 3rd in the 2004/2005 season in a campaign that only include one loss in the twenty matches after Christmas. The club also entered the FA Cup and Vase for the first time and won the Buckingham Charity Cup in 2006. Season 2006/2007 began with Haywood United becoming Aylesbury Vale FC and saw Keith Walker and Steve Gleinster take over as joint managers and steadily build a squad. This was recognised in the 2008/2009 season, under the management of Mark Eaton, with a good cup run in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three rounds in the FA Cup losing to Level 4 side Gosport after a replay, and losing out in the 4th round of the FA Vase to Leiston Town. . After Christmas the side suffered due to long term injuries and finished mid table. May 2009 saw a major new development in a new semi professional side vote for a name change. Aylesbury Football Club was formed under the leadership of Chairman Roger Dance and assisted by Vice Chairman Danny Martone

Dynamos HISTORY Former Chairman Bill Harrison was made President of the club. Great success on the field of play was to follow, with the team having a fantastic run in the F.A. Cup. We were the last 'level five' team in the country to remain in the competition and were rewarded with a visit to Haywood Way for the F.A. Cup trophy, allowing the team, supporters and local people to get their hands on this famous trophy and make the most of this memorable occasion. We were finally knocked out of the competition by Wealdstone in a close game. A brave and superb display was witnessed by a bumper crowd of 800 plus. Meanwhile, away from the midst of F.A. Cup drama, our success continued, becoming 'Double Winners' Winning both the Spartan South Midland League and League Cup capping an extraordinary season and gaining promotion to the Southern League Division 1 Central. Steve Bateman took over in 2013/14, steered the club to safety in his first 6 months in charge. Then in 2014/15 with Bateman at the helm FC has their most successful season to date most successful to date. Playing at the highest level in the club’s history, the team finished third in the League, having been pushing for promotion all season and narrowly lost out in the semi final to Bedworth United having already beaten them twice in the league. the 2015/16 finished with a flourish as the club finished just outside the play off positions, but had the consolation of our first major Cup Final, beating Chesham United in the Berks & Bucks Cup at Windsor. Steve Bateman and his management team resigned at the end of the season and Danny Gordon & Gareth Risbridger took the helm , supported by Paul Bonham , Ryan Wiffin & Aaron Norman. Davis Haule took over from Gordon & Risbridger in December 2016, appointed brother Brian as his assistant and recruited former coaches Fraser McLachlan, Aaron Wiffin and added Ryan Collings to his back room staff for the 2017/18 season. In 2018/19 Scott Reynolds was appointed manager and when he resigned midway through the season it was left to Paul Bonham to take control but because of ground grading issues the Southern League made the decision to relegate the club and so after ten seasons in the Southern League. Phil Granville and Ben Gill were appointed midway through last season and will kick off the 2020/21 season again in the Spartan Premier Division Bedgrove Dynamos Alf Buckland, a resident of Finmere Crescent, formed Bedgrove Dynamos in 1968. It was created to fill a void in activities for boys within the Bedgrove area on the south side of Aylesbury. In 1980, Dave Bayliss became involved when he brought his Cub side to the Bedgrove Park. The teams amalgamated and Dave went on to be the chairman for 21 years, stepping down in the year 2000. Within two years and barely a full strip between them, they managed not only to win the Under 12's Aylesbury & District League (ADL), but went on to win the 13's & 14's league in consecutive years and, by which time, they now had four teams at various age groups. Over the years the club has grown and has won many tournaments and trophies, especially at county level. Many teams have toured abroad and the club has also entertained boys from Europe and America. We can boost that we are the only boys club to have a club pennant on display in Barcelona's trophy room. At the start of the season 2001/02 the club was the largest junior club in the Aylesbury area, running teams from under 8's through to under 18's. At the end of the season 2001/02 the club managed to win the coveted Berks and Bucks Cup at under 14's, the Mayor's Cup at under 12's, represented in two other cup finals, won 3 league titles, gained 6 promotions in total and all teams finished in the top 6 to the fairplay awards for their respective leagues. In the last 20 seasons across the age groups the club has won 25 divisional titles, and runners up 20 times. In 2019 two became one when the sides amalgamated with the intention of allowing the youth of the town to progress through junior football to youth and then adult football and play at the highest possible level.

Last Time OUT Tuesday 3rd August 2021 Holmer Green 3 AVDFC 3 The new season was finally upon us as The Dynamos started with an away tie at Holmer Green. Phil Granville was still missing a few regulars, but fielded a team with a mix of youth and old heads. Within a few minute Aylesbury had the first meaningful attack and Luke Nugent sent Ollie Lemon racing down the right wing, his cross just eluded Tom McElroy and Holmer Green cleared their lines. Next up Joe Oxley, operating in the midfield, controlled and found Charlie Ogle running through, his shot was blocked for a corner. Ollie Lemon swung it in, but Joe Oxley could not direct his header goalwards. 10 minutes and Holmer Green got a lucky break, a shot hit Alfi Touceda on his arm and the referee decided this was a penalty…not sure about the decision…! Their striker stepped up and hit it into the left of the goal but Dan McAteer managed to get a hand to it, the ball hit the post and was cleared!!! Great save and the game remained goalless. Joe Oxley then raced into a rash challenge, but no card…moments later he jumps for a header and is adjudged to have used excess force and is shown a yellow card. 17 minutes and 2 more yellow cards, this time Holmer Green No.9 and Tom McElroy get tangled up and handbags were raised. A few minutes later and Holmer Green were attacking again, this time they went through on goal but again Dan McAteer stood strong and made a great save. Less than half an hour gone and Holmer Green were on top. A corner was saved by Dan McAteer and Paolo Bagatti made the final clearance. Another attack came and a shot from Holmer Green, hit the bar and Dan McAteer grabbed the ball, but the linesman flagged to say over the line. Holmer Green were 1-0 up. Callum Shortt was put through by Alfi Touceda but the keeper came out and just beat him to the ball to clear for a throw. On the half hour mark Dan McAteer played a trademark ball onto the foot of Joe Oxley who sends Tom McElroy through but the keeper makes another save as The Dynamos pushed for an equaliser. Next up Paolo Bagatti played the ball to Callum Shortt and his run and cross was met by Joe Oxley as he steamed into the box but the header was wide. 36 minutes and Holmer Green had their second. The Dynamos defence was pulled out of shape and a cross from their winger found the attacker in acres of space and easily slotted past Dan McAteer. 2-0 Holmer Green. 44 minutes and a potential game changer..! Holmer Green keeper rushed out to meet Charlie Ogle who was through on goal and jumped to fist clear, wiping our Charlie and also clearly handling the ball a few feet outside the box. Referee had no hesitation and gave a straight red card. Holmer were down to 10 men and one of their outfield players went in goal. Charlie Ogle hit the resulting free kick inches over the bar. Almost immediately after the break, Callum Shortt ran through and had the keeper to beat, or pass to Charlie Ogle…unfortunately he did neither and the keeper gathered comfortably. Holmer Green were keeping the ball well and having more possession despite 10 men and only a cross Ollie Lemon which Paolo Bagatti headed over was a notable chance for a 15 minute spell. Next goal would be crucial and a cruel deflection on Holmer Green cross saw the ball fall to their striker who happily smashed it past Dan McAteer to make it 3-0 Holmer Green. Some people thought it was over…but the Dynamos team kept plugging away.

Last Time OUT 63 minutes and Phil Granville rolled to dice with 3 substitutions. Chris Shennan, Davide Pobbe and Dan Boateng all on with Ollie Lemon, Joe Oxley and Tom McElroy giving way. On 68 minutes two of the subs combined to create a good chance. Chris Shennan collected Luke Nugents ball down the left flank and beat his man, crossing to Dan Boateng. He controlled and drilled a low shot just past the far post. Dan McAteer then hit a decent free kick straight into the mix and Chris Shennan got a header on target but the keeper saved. 73 minutes and finally Dynamos were on the scoresheet. Charlie Ogle swung in a corner and captain, Alfi Touceda, was first to react and flicked it past the keeper to make it 3-1 Holmer Green. 82 minutes and Aylesbury were looking a different team as they came forward. Another corner from Charlie Ogle was then headed against the post from Terry Griffiths. So close….! Dan Boateng then had another chance which went wide of the goal as Dynamos looked to salvage something from the game. 87 minutes and a ball from Terry Griffiths was headed on by Callum Shortt and Charlie Ogle was through on goal, he took a touch and beat the keeper with ease to make it 3-2 Holmer Green. Game on and The Dynamos were well on top as Holmer Green tired. Terry Griffiths then took it upon himself to go on a great run and was tackled in the box to screams of “penalty”, but nothing given as we were into injury time. Then the unthinkable…a Charlie Ogle corner was met by Paolo Bagatti who guided it past the keeper and into the net. Dynamos had scored a 3rd and made it 3-3 in the dying seconds.

Longlevens AFC HISTORY The Club, in its current format, was formed in 1954, although we believe that a Longlevens team had been in existence before the Second World War, but that it folded in 1952, although we have never been able to confirm this through official records. We graduated into the Gloucestershire Norther Senior League, but then spent the next forty years, or so, trying to progress from there. As Football evolved, with the adoption of the Pyramid System and the formal Grading of Clubs, we found our route to ‘the next level’ cut off, due to the facilities at our Club HQ. However, as a result of development, involving the Gloucester City Council, the Ibis Hotel was built, alongside a football facility which was capable of being developed to suit the requirements of the higher leagues and we were fortunate to be granted an annual lease, after applications from several local sides. From there, given our previous progress, things took off at alarming pace, after we were elected to the Gloucestershire County League in season 2011/12. Our first season saw us finish fifth, but, we then surprised everyone, including ourselves, when we won it the following season, after completing a tremendous run that took us from the bottom four, in November, to the League Title. Due to our position, pre-Christmas, we had not contemplated any application to join the Hellenic League, but the following season we repeated our success, having made the relevant application and we were pleased to be accepted into the Hellenic League, in Division One West. If we had surprised ourselves with our performances in the Gloucestershire County League, then I think that to win Division One West in our first season was beyond everyone’s expectations and so, in Season 2015/16 we found ourselves playing in the Premier Division of the Hellenic League, sponsored by UHL Sport. Therefore, in just five years, we have effectively been promoted four times and although our performances on the pitch have secured this rise, it is probably fair to say that the infra-structure of the Club has struggled a little to match the set-up of well-established Clubs, such as we meet in the Premier Division of the Hellenic League, but we are trying hard to improve on this side of things. Having acknowledged that it was only due to our securing the lease at Sawmills that allowed to start this journey, it is only right to pay tribute to our major sponsors - E.G. Carter and Company Limited (probably better known simply as Carter Construction) because without their input – which is still ongoing - both financial and with the provision of man-power, we would not have been able to meet the ground improvements necessary for both the County and Hellenic Leagues. However, as Club President with over forty years at the Club, it was also gratifying to see the amount of work that was put in by Club members to make the necessary ground improvements, although we recognise there is still work to be completed. Special mention has to be made to James French, our First Team Manager, who has transitioned from player, through player-manager, to manager and although this isn’t the platform to name everyone individually, he has put together a strong support team and the Club is currently blessed with a really strong management team and dedicated back-up on the administration side. We also run four other adult male sides, as well as an adult Ladies side and we are establishing a ‘ladies’ U12 side as well. Historically, our representation at youth level has been somewhat variable, we have had some very successful youth teams in the past, but these teams have tended to be been transitional and we have not been able to sustain teams at all levels.

Potton HISTORY FC HISTORY vens AUtd Longle However, as part of our plans that saw us achieve Charter Standard Development Status, we implemented a structure that should see a steady influx of youth teams in future seasons, which can only be good for our future and it would seem that in future years, the major problem will be providing sufficient pitches for this rapidly growing section of the Club.
