Your Lieutenant Governor Hello my beautiful K-Family, I hope you are all excited for a busy summer with Key Club; We have a lot of upcoming events and hopefully we can get more!! (I suggest checking the key dates page) Kiwanis has been very active and they have been asking for some key clubbers to volunteer, they would love to get to know us all. Like them on Facebook!! I have also started a few things within our division; I am encouraging clubs to participate in the human trafficking campaign and the new pay it forward project. Please email me for details regarding this. I have also created a google form for presidents to fill out monthly, it is due the fifth of each month. The form is very important to keep your club afloat, It helps me understand your problems as a club, so I can help you in the most beneficial way! One more thing, if you have not given me your contact information please do so, in a timely manner! Thank You!

In Love and Service,

Hannah Dew

Pay it Forward I have started this Pay it forward project in our division. In hopes to start a chain reaction of people passionate about doing random acts of kindness. To start this project I have made business cards that have an inspirational quote and a very brief reason to what “pay it forward” means; Ideally I want people to complete a “random act of kindness” and then give a Pay it forward business card to the person they helped, encouraging the stranger to pass the card on to another stranger by an act of kindness!

Here is a list of pay it forward ideas from the web... 1. Hold the door open for the person behind you 2. Inspire others online. 3. Share your umbrella with a stranger on a rainy day. 4. Check up on someone who looks lonely. 5. Let someone with only a few items cut you in line at the grocery store. 6. Pay for the person in line behind you. 7. Help the weary shopper in front of you who needs that extra two or three cents to avoid breaking a 20-dollar bill. 8. Hug a friend. Let them know how important they are. 9. Send a nice email or handwritten card to someone you know, unexpectedly. 10.If you see a couple taking a self-pic, offer to take the picture for them 11.Leave anonymous thank you notes to teachers. 12.Invite a friend to the movies or dinner. 13.Put change in a vending machine. 14.Buy a meal for a homeless person. 15.Put something you no longer need on craigslist.org for free.

Congratulations Members of the Month This year AYN will have a monthly members of the month for each club! The best part is, YOU, the members get to vote who the member of the month is. Come to the DCM’s to vote! Congratulations Abby Dunham– Abby is a senior at North Pole High School. She has been extremely active in her club; always contributing enthusiasm, ideas and jokes! Abby earned this 100%! I have personally seen Abby grow and become that ideal key clubber every club wants! She comes to a majority of events and always speaks up!

Congratulations Lauren Criss-Carboy– I nominated Lauren for this award because when I recently met Lauren, I could tell she was a key clubber. She was very polite with the other members, she seemed enthused and she helped me get comfortable right away. Lauren shows the qualities of not only a key clubber, but also a great leader. I wish you and your club well in your upcoming year of key club!

What is MNT? MNT stands for Maternal Neonatal Tetanus it’s a deadly disease that steals the lives of nearly 60,000 innocent babies and a significant number of women each year. The effects of the disease are excruciating — tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

We have raised $80,000! To eliminate MNT from the Earth,

more than 100 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take US$110 million — and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

34 countries have Eliminated MNT; 25 Countries have yet to Eliminate!

Human trafficking is the trade of humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor on commercial sexual exploitation for the trafficker or others, for use as child soldiers, or for the extraction of organs or tissues, including surrogacy and ova removal.

How you can Help: Have a Wear Red Day at school to raise awareness of human trafficking, paired with fact sheets to handout to students and organizing a Walk a Mile In Her Shoes walkathon to raise awareness and funding. Learn and teach others about it and how to recognize it and equip them with tools to make a difference. Helping identify and locate victims of trafficking to advocating for better legislation to teaching other people about trafficking.

Where the money goes

Mission We help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies

What can you do? Every year in the United States, more than half a million babies are born too soon, 1,200 of them right here in Alaska. Since 1978, Key Clubs have hosted fundraising and awareness programs to support the March of Dimes, raising over $116,000 through fundraisers in 2011 alone! Key Club members, like you, can support the March of Dimes by fundraising and walking in the March of Dimes. With your help, we work to improve the health of babies and support families if something does go wrong.

Date: September 13, 2014 Time: 10:00AM Registration Time: 9:00AM Doyon Parking Lot 1 Doyon Place Fairbanks, AK 99701

Preferred Charities Since 1994, Key Club has been Trickor-Treating for UNICEF and over the years has raised nearly US$5 million for iodine deficiency programs worldwide and HIV and AIDS programs in Kenya and Swaziland. Now it’s helping The Eliminate Project.

Key Club participates with Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals by sponsoring fundraising events. Key Club members also participate in service projects at their local children’s hospital.

For decades, Key Club has partnered with the March of Dimes to give every baby a healthy start. Key Club members raise thousands of dollars annually through various programs, including collecting change, holding dances and taking part in March of Dimes’ signature event, March for Babies.
