arita-Nirmal Mandoth’s poolside bash at Ista was not just a wellattended affair but a fun luncheon where guests let their hair down and enjoyed the hospitality of the warm hosts. The Mandoths are not just a popular couple but generous too as they ensured that there was a constant flow of the finest champagne (Moet & Chandon) along with lipsmacking finger foods followed by a well-laid out luncheon. But this being a Sunday afternoon, most guests walked in post 2.30 pm and the party continued late into the evening. Guests had a blast dancing to popular Bollywood tracks all through the afternoon.
TALK OF THE TOWN
Arshad Warsi and Sanjay Dutt in a still from Munnabhai
Continued from Page 17 Approximately `35 to `40 crores is riding on the actor. The film’s producer Rahul Aggarwal says, “Sanjay was nearing the end of his shoot for the film. The entire team is shocked and shattered. We are hoping for a change in the sentence as Sanjay still has a chance to file a review petition against the verdict.” The film’s schedule was about 20 days, of which Sanjay has completed four days of shooting. Though Dutt has four weeks to surrender, his team is trying to work out a way to seek permissions from the legal authorities so that he can wind up the leftover portions of his films. However, the decision will be taken in the coming days. A close friend of the actor says, “He will complete the films if the police allows him too. Even his passport and driving licence have already been confiscated. Whether or not he’ll complete the films is something that only time can tell.” Another film that is touted as one of the mostawaited films of 2013 is the remake of Zanjeer where Dutt plays the role of Pran. The film, which has around `60 crores at stake, stars actor Ram Charan Teja in Amitabh Bachchan’s role. Dutt’s look has been carefully guarded and was expected to be revealed later. rust some of our actors to be witty when needed. At a recent press conference, someone asked Sudeep about the budget of his upcoming reality show Bigg Boss to which he smiled and said, “I thought you’d be more intelligent and ask how much reality shows generally cost to produce. You would have received your answer.” The red-faced reporter didn’t know how to respond even as the audience members stifled giggles. Lesson learnt — Before you try to attack intelligent stars with questions, think!
Hrithik Roshan @iHrithik I cannot comprehend. I know d law is d LAW. But I can bet my Life 2 say that Sanju sir doesn't deserve this! D most loved man!i stand for Sanjay dutt. informed that the actor has only two days of work pending, he refused to comment on the impact that the verdict could have on the promotions and city tours of the film. Aamir Khan’s muchhyped PK, that has `60 crores at stake, also stars Dutt in a supporting role. The official spokesperson of the film said, “Sanjay has shot a large chunk of the film and there’s very little work that he has to complete. We are hoping that he’ll finish the film before surrendering.” Sher and Ungli are expected to be least affected as he has already finished shooting for them. While Karan Johar’s official spokesperson confirmed that Sanjay has finished shooting for his part of the film, Sher (for which Dutt had finished shooting last year itself) is lying in the cans.

When we asked her about what it was like to be there, she beamed, “I loved wearing the MasterChef Apron and the whole feeling of being part of the contest and honing my culinary skills. I was away for a while from Bengaluru as the shoot was on and wasn’t allowed to talk to anyone, but now that it’s on air, it's nice to watch the show.”

ur resident gossip Robin was let in on a tiny little secret recently. And you must promise to keep it secret too, after all secrets are more fun that way! Anyway, if you’ve been following Kannada films, you will know or have heard of a certain film that has become a surprise hit. It stars newcomers and made headlines much before its release thanks to some superaggressive social media campaigning. The PYT who stars as the female lead in the flick is as sweet as they come, not at all lacking in saccharine disposition. But beneath all that sheen, she has apparently been hiding one little detail. The fact that she is married! Maybe it’s her way of ensuring her career isn’t nipped in the bud, in an industry that is not too open to its married actresses. While we wish the artiste all the luck, we wonder how long she will be able to carry on her charade.

Janaka and Shridevi
‘God’ willing, they will rock! Meet Shridevi Keshavan and Janaka Atugoda, the names behind this fusion band that is performing in the city AYSWARYA MURTHY
Gods Robots have transcended careers, distances and genres to get to where they are today. While Shridevi Keshavan was growing up in Mumbai on a steady diet of Carnatic music with a side of rock, jazz and fusion, Sri Lankan-born Janaka Atugoda flew to San Franciso, a newly minted electrical engineer, to ride the dot com boom. She became a journalist and he took to the turntable. Then he re-entered the rat race and joined Yahoo! while she quit hers in pursuit of making music. All the while, unknown to either, they were on a collision course. “I was in India to work on my first solo album, a collaborative effort with several Indian classical musicians, when I met Shridevi. In fact, I met her as I was just leaving,” says Janaka. A precursor for the next three years, during which they barely saw each other in person and yet managed to discover new exciting sounds solely through the Internet — a mesmerising blend of her ethereal Carnatic alaaps and his electronic beats and bass rhythms. “We were so wired to the Net. We saw our friends and neighbours less than we saw each other,” he remembers. While Shridevi predominately writes the songs (“More often than not, they are born out of the long
conversations we’d have with each other online,” she says), Janaka works with the music. Ever since Sony Music came forward to bring out their debut fulllength album, the duo has been, for the first time, sharing the same recording space for the last three months. Shaking off the long-distance dynamic they had established over the years was easier said than done. “The process isn’t hugely different now. We are able to communicate rapidly, sure, but we are so used to having our own space to do our own thing with the song before handing it over to the other person,” he says. And while musicians were busy fighting against the mp3-downloadculture, Gods Robots embraced it by releasing an EP, Stormy Weather for free on bittorrent. “Quite honestly, no musician wants to just give away something he has worked and piracy is definitely not cool, but it wasn’t such a hard decision for us; we were getting a lot more in return. We were relatively unknown at that point and it made sense for us. The single was downloaded half a million times, our fans on Facebook increased by 10,000, the song received over 200,000 hits on Youtube and we were booked for seven shows in five months,” says Shridevi. Not a bad deal at all. “And we started noticing large pockets of active fans in countries like Mexico, Egypt, Brazil, Thailand, Belarus… something that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise.” With their upcoming performance at BFlat on Friday, Gods Robots would have come a full circle. “Our first ever gig was in Bengaluru. In fact, that was the first time I met Shridevi after we starting working on the project,” he adds.
