NARRATIVES OF THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
THE IMPACT OF ARCHITECTURE IS BEST SEEN IN HOW IT IS USED BY THE PEOPLE. THIS DESIGN AIMS TO BRING OUT THE NARRATIVES AND COMMUNITY GROWTH THAT A NEIGHBOURHOOD WILL FORM BY THE MEANS OF A CITIZEN FACILITATION CENTRE.
•To create a public realm for the Citizen Facilitation Centre by integrating more public functions to make it a centre where information is disseminated and debates and discussion can take place.
•The design reads this institution of government as an extension of the heterogeneous public realm that is a place for everyday acitivities and everyday influx in an inclusive biophillic environment.

GRAIN MARKET
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
In a largely agrarian community, the equitable and just conveyance of the food produced to the retail user is as important as the production of the food itself. Understanding that agricultural processes are fragile and subject to all manner of external impacts on a year by year basis, the presence of a stable institution that will allow the farmer to get a just price for their produce is of vital importance. Such an institution should be close to the place of production, should be run on terms determined by the farmers and should provide a necessary buffer to the farmers in hard times.
In this design project, students were expected to study the processes of agricultural growth, harvesting and conveyance of the grain to existing APMCs, the exchange and transfer of commodities. They should also understand the socio-cultural milieu that allows such transactions to take place. Further, students designed a grain market on sites of their choice, in rural India.

REINTERPRETING THE TRADITIONAL
•The site is located in a village in Pune, and so the inspiration was derived from the Wadas of Pune to take the rural architecture back to its roots.
•Wadas are historically associated with figures of authority and the upper classes. By building a structure for the farmers alluding to the architecture of wada, an attempt is made to signify the authority this place would give to the •farmers.Wadashad
courtyards as key feature in planning and design and so this design is essentially a ‘series of courtyards’.

38AYURVEDIC PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCES INSTITUTE CBD INSTRUCTOR:BELAPURAR.KETAN CHHEDA STUDIO: ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN | SEMESTER 6 PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The semester brief entailed the designing of an educational institute with a course of our choice.
39 INSTITUTE
• While medicine is making leaps of advances, world events like the COVID-19 pandemic have taught us the importance of a healthy lifestyle and the importance of maintaining personal health. Realising a need to go back to our roots, the need to develop an institute for Ayurveda was recognised.
• •The main aim of this institute is neither to produce graduates who can be Ayurvedic Physician nor experts for manufacturing allopathic drugs but to produce high quality technologists who have capacity of producing high quality, Ayurvedic drugs by employing traditional, modern or upgraded or modified tradition techniques and also to control and maintain their quality.
• Ayurveda is an ancient science which was first taught in the gurukuls, and hence while making an institute for this science, an allusion to the past while a clear intent to strive for the future is achieved. This is done by playing with the traditional form of the hut and then juxtaposing structures of tensile and steel to show aspiration.

In the state of Uttar Pradesh, in India, in just four years, crimes against women increased by over 66%.While,a trial had been completed in only 7.6% cases of crimes against women. An analysis of the data indicates that the Indian judiciary would need at least 12 years to clear the backlog.
There is a need for greater intervention in women’s issues such as in the physical abuse that women face; husbands getting married a second time; the lack of value for women in village-level, conflict resolution bodies; and their dependency on men for justice (due to the patriarchal system, the villagelevel conflict resolution body does not provide justice to women).
To tacke this, Nari Adalat (Women’s Court) are set up in rural areas. Nari Adalat is a system of alternative dispute resolution systems run by women which emerged as a grassroots response to the rise in violence against women. They learn the law in their own way, understand violence to the extent that it is unjust and illegal and know quickly to be objective and committed to justice.
Nari Adalats function with the tacit and, in some cases open, support of the government and the judiciary.Unfortuantely, their organization lacks proper infrastructure.
In the villages of Uttar Pradesh, cases related to women no more go to the police and family courts. They are instead solved by the women of the village in Nari Adalat. The proposed site is located in one such district of Sitapur and this proposal of Community Justice Centre for women aims to provide a place for these women, run by them.

THE NOMADS OF TODAY
FOOD, CLOTHING AND HOME ARE THE BASIC NECESSITIES THAT EVERY HUMAN BEING DESERVES. ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO WORK THE HARDEST AND TOUGHEST JOBS TO PROVIDE A DAY’S FOOD FOR THEIR FAMILIES.THE SAD REALITY IS THAT, THE LABOURERS WHO TOIL THEMSLVES EVERDAY TO BUILD OUR ROADS AND BUILDINGS, HELP GENERATE OUR FOOD AND HELP IN THE ACTUAL FUNCTIONING OF THE NATION, HAVE THE POOREST LIVING CONDITIONS. THIS TRUTH WAS SPIT IN ALL OUR FACES IN 2020, WHERE WE SAW THE MARCH OF THESE WORKERS WHO HAD TO WALK MILES AND MILES TO REACH THEIR VILLAGES.
THE PANDEMIC WOULD HAVE BEEN THE HARDEST FOR THOSE WHO DID NOT EVEN HAVE A HOME TO GO TO. THESE ARE THE WORKER WHO DEPEND ON THEIR JOB SITES FOR FINDING OR MAKING TEMPORARY SHELTERS. THIS PROJECT AIMS TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION FOR THESE WORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES.
DESIGN AIM•TO CREATE A DEPLOYABLE STRUCTURE WHICH CAN SERVE AS A HOME FOR DAY LABOURERS, CONSTRUCTION WORKERS, FARM WORKERS, WHO RESIDE IN TEMPORARY SHELTERS ON THE JOB SITES. •MODULES CAN BE MULTI-PURPOSE AS THEY CAN BE USED AS LIVING UNITS, COMMUNAL KITCHEN UNITS AND PORTABLE COMMUNAL WASHROOMS. •THE STRUCTURE CAN ALSO BE USED AS A QUARANTINE POD DURING TIMES OF PANDEMIC OR EPIDEMICS

THE HEALTH PAVILION
CENTRE FOR THE COMMUNITY THE PAVILION IS BUILT AROUND THE LOCAL COMMUNITY NEEDS AS A PLACE TO GATHER,MEET AND PARTAKE IN HEALTHEDUCATION. THE DESIGN HAS BEEN DIVIDED IN TWO SEGMENTS, THE TREATMENT ZONE AND THE COMMUNITY ZONE AND THEN USED A DECK/STAGE SYSTEM WITH A COMMON ROOF SUPPORT SYSTEM TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE TWO.
THE DESIGN IS DIVIDED IN TWO PARTS, THE TREATMENT ZONE AND THE COMMUNITY ZONE. THE TREATMENT ZONE CONTAINS THE CLINIC AND CONSULTANCY AREA AND THE BUILT STURUCTURE, WHEREAS COMMUNITYTHE ZONE IS AN OPEN, FLEXIBLE AND TRANSFORMABLE SPACE WHERE THE COMMUNITY CAN GATHER HEALTHFOR AND AWARENESS FUNCTIONS.
“THE BRIDGE” IS ACTUALLY A METAPHOR FOR THE ROOFING SYSTEM WHICH IS COMMON FOR THE TREATMENT ZONE COMMUNITYAND ZONE. THIS ALSO EMPHASIZES THE IDEA OF THE PAVILLION.

CREATED SHADED SEATING AREAS THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS THAT ENCOURAGE PATIENTS TO REMAIN OUTSIDE WHERE THE CHANCE OF AIRBORNE DISEASE TRANSMISSION IS GREATLY REDUCED.
MINIMIZED HARDSCAPED AREAS, FAVORING SEMIPERMEABLE LANDSCAPING TO PREVENT THE FORMATION OF POOLS OF WATER, WHICH CAN SERVE AS BREEDING SITES FOR VECTOR-BORNE DISEASES. MEDICINAL AND MOSQUITO-RE PELLING PLANTS HAVE BEEN PLANTED AROUND THE CAMPUS WHICH ALSO PROVE AS BIOPHILLIC DESIGN ELEMENTS.
TREATMENT ZONE
WITH WELL-DESIGNED PATHWAYS, IMPROVED WAYFINDING AND A DELIBER ATE CIRCULATION STRATEGY IS INSTRU MENTAL IN IMPROVING HEALTH OUTCOMES. THE SKYLIGHTS GIVEN ON THE ROOF NOT ONLY PROVIDE NATURAL LIGHT, BUT ARE ALSO PLACED IN SUCH A WAY TO ACT AS PATH GUIDERS.
WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING IN MIND, A NEW SEATING SYSTEM FOR THE WAITING AREA HAS ALSO BEEN DESIGNED.
THE LOW STATURE OF THE BUILDING NARROWS THE VISITOR’S LINE OF VISION FORCING ONE TO ADJUST TO THE VIEWS.
THIS CYCLICAL PROCESS OF MOVING THROUGHOUT THE PAVILION SETS IN MOTION A PROCESS OF DISCOVERY AND REDISCOVERY DURING ONES EXPERI ENCE; ALWAYS OFFERING UP NEW PERSPECTIVES AND DETAILS THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY UNSEEN.
