Earth is surrounded by a layer of air called the atmosphere.

Earth resembles an egg in its structure. In the centre of the planet, there's a core that consists of liquid metals. The outer shell of Earth is called the crust. Between the crust and Earth's core, there's a layer of melted rock called the mantle.

IN THE ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM, IT IS THE ONLY PLANET WHERE WATER AND AIR, WHICH HUMANS, ANIMALS, AND PLANTS ALL NEED, CAN BE FOUND.

Earth constantly moves as it rotates on its axis. We notice it when the day changes to night. It's daytime on the sunlit parts of Earth, and it's night on the rest of the surface.

NIGHT

• Australia is situated in the southern hemisphere. That’s why seasons here are opposite to those in the countries

of the northern hemisphere. When it’s winter in Europe, summer comes to Australia. • Papuans of New Guinea and the Indigenous Australians are the most ancient populations in the world. • The rock Uluru is located in the centre of Australia. Its colour appears to change at different times of the day. • The breadfruit tree is a wonderful plant growing on the islands of Oceania. Its fruits weigh more than 20 kilos and when they are baked, they taste like bread made from flour. • The duckbill is a mammal, although it has a big beak and lays eggs.

WE ARE RESPONSIBLE

for the planet Our planet has changed a lot during the last 100 years. The population of the planet is growing rapidly. Many human activ ities have dramatically harmed the environment. It is important to keep Earth green and blooming and to prevent ecological catastroph e. Each of us can do a lot to save the planet!

DON’T TEAR OFF OR DIG UP RARE PLANTS. DON’T HARM ANIMALS, BUT TAKE CARE OF THEM.

USE WATER ECONOMICALLY.

SORT YOUR GARBAGE FOR RECYCLING: PAPER, PLASTICS, AND GLASS.

POLLUTION Many factories and industrial plants emit poisonous waste and pollute the air, rivers, and soil.

CUTTING DOWN TROPICAL FORESTS The tropical forests are the “lungs” of our planet. People have carelessly cut them down. On our planet almost half of the tropical rainforests have already been destroyed.

DON’T LEAVE GARBAGE BEHIND AFTER YOU VISIT THE FOREST.

TRY TO RIDE YOUR BICYCLE AND WALK ON FOOT MORE OFTEN.

DESERT ATTACK As a result of swamp drainage and destruction of forests, many fertile grounds turn into deserts. This threatens the life of plants and animals.

GREENHOUSE EFFECT Cars, planes, and factories pollute the atmosphere with carbon dioxide. This gas holds the heat in the atmosphere, causing the global warming of the climate.

OZONE HOLE Earth is surrounded with an ozone layer that protects it from harmful solar radiation. As a result of pollution, this layer has gradually become thinner. The ozone hole over Antarctica is shown in the picture.
