18 ROBINSON

An award-winning commercial building that synthesizes the unique conditions, which define the urban, environmental and cultural context of contemporary Singapore.

The brilliant creation of New York-based architect, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, and architects61, 18 Robinson is a sleek, statement building reminiscent of New York’s Times Square and Manhattan’s Flatiron Building. Designed to address the principles of sustainable urbanism, 18 Robinson is a highly visible Grade A office and retail development that maximizes the potential of its small site in downtown Singapore.

Completed in 2018, the 180-metre commercial tower spans 259,400 sq ft across 28 floors. Located at the terminus of the V-shaped intersection of Market Street and Robinson Road, 18 Robinson avails the odd site shape through the balanced elements of the faceted tower. Two primary volumes, a hovering crystalline office tower and a retail podium, make up the principle building elements.

Keeping with Singapore’s Landscape Replacement Area policy, 18 Robinson offers publicly accessible space that is equivalent to the site area. Its landscaped spaces include a glass-enclosed sky garden, a terraced roof-scape on the podium and outdoor terraces, which feature planted trees, natural ventilation, and views across the city.

The landscaped spaces at 18 Robinson include a glass-enclosed sky garden offering views of the city, a terraced roof-scape on the podium, outdoor terraces integrated into key office floors, and a pocket retail park.

18 Robinson has achieved a Greenmark Platinum rating, Singapore’s equivalent to LEED, thanks to the design of its planning, envelope, and mechanical systems.

Passed in 2014, Singapore’s Landscape Replacement Policy requires that any greenery lost due to development must be replaced with publicly accessible greenery in equal area within the new building. This obligation, coupled with the constrained, V-shaped site, influenced the architect’s design solution for 18 Robinson.

Designed to address the principles of sustainable urbanism, 18 Robinson maximizes the potential of its small site in downtown Singapore.

The podium is elevated above the street, enhancing the spaciousness and continuity from the ground level entrance into the atrium garden. The atrium forms the nucleus around which the office lobby, retail, and F&B are organized. Urban windows facing Robinson Road expose retailers and internal activity while the podium’s materiality and faceted design form a contextual relationship with the angular roof form and terracotta of Lau Pa Sat.

The office floors extend elegantly above the podium, maximizing the building height and marina views. The angled composition of the tower serves to increase access to natural light, mitigate direct views into adjacent towers, and reflect light to create a gem-like beacon for Singapore. 18 Robinson offers a carefully curated mix of urban dining options, modern health and fitness centres, and wellness boutiques. The commercial tower is equipped with energy-and-water saving features aimed at achieving BCA’s Green Mark GoldPLUS standards. It also takes pride in providing an automated car parking system which is the first of its kind in Singapore and South-East Asia. The system uses battery-powered automated guided vehicles driven by a laser-guided positioning system to transport and park cars across 6 levels of basement carparks.
