Volume 2

From the Editor: Welcome to our second Issue of Basic Art Magazine. This issue could actually be considered the first issue because our first issue was mostly an explanation of how you can get your works featured here in our publication. So spring may be just around the corner but we still have plenty of winter left here. February is generally filled with images of hearts and valentines wishes. But in the art world there are a multitude of feelings that are expressed with every work. Hours and Weeks go into many of the works that we give but scant minutes of our time to when we observe them. Many hours of practice, study and thought go into even the most simple of pieces. Still many people do not give it as much thought as they would choosing a meal. This months issue is covering a variety of topics and a wide range of skills from various artists all over the globe. Many years of experience and skills are represented in these pages of Basic Art Magazine. It is hard to imagine just how much thought and learning went into the various skills that have been used in creating these pieces. Often times when asked about how long a particular work took to complete many artists will say that it only took a couple of hours or a day or so, maybe a week for a larger piece. But I will argue that it took their entire lifetime to come up with that work. After all they are not taking into account the years of crafting their abilities that had to have taken place before they could produce these amazing works. So as you enjoy these images of works that took years of experience to create keep in mind that there is a lot of love being represented by the creation of them.

Jenny Stokes

Jenny is a professional artist who specializes in ceramics. She has many other talents as you can see from the image above. Jenny took up photography about 11 years ago.. The image above is called reflections. “Reflections, I love. Mostly I try to find different angles in order to propose to the viewer the possibility of almost 'abstract' images. Sometimes this means making a complete idiot of yourself bending, lying or anything else necessary.” “To me Photography is more about the 'eye'. What I mean by this is, you can be the best 'technically correct' person in the Universe but without having the ability to really 'see'....... pictures one produces will mean very little.”

Mr. Handsome (Left) Wandering Water Buffaloes (Below) Images by Jenny Stokes “Bird pictures are my least favorite shots...........for the obvious reasons, they move all the time and frighten easily. Being quick, making settings before the shot is important. Buffalo's in the wild can be extremely dangerous, with any animal photographers need to have knowledge of a safe place to run to. As this image shows, these two were very happy wallowing in muddy water but I stayed on guard.
