BROOKE UNLIKE MANY starving artists in Los Angeles, Brooke Reidt wasn’t looking to be discovered. But the quiet beauty spoke so loudly through her art— peppered on stickers, sidewalks, and bathroom stall doors around the city—that people couldn’t help but listen. “I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t painting,” says Reidt, whose paintings and large-scale murals are a transforma-
tive experience, a swirl of geometric shapes and bright colors inspired by the world in search of inspiration. Bali has become a second home to the raven-haired artist as she gives herself over to wanderlust for months at a time. “I wanted to be able to create anywhere, so I travel with a suitcase full of paint and try to adapt to where life takes me.”

REIDT “Creating is the one thing I cannot live without.”
To do something larger and something that makes you uncomfortable. I’m not comfortable with people watching me work; I isolate myself in my studio and won’t allow visitors while I’m painting. So murals force me outside in public space and pushes me to overcome that. Maybe allowing myself to make mistakes and struggle with my work in front of people will help them identify with me and create a stronger connection to my work.
Traveling is about exploration and introducing your eyes to new things. I’m a visual person, I want to see all the beautiful parts of the world, things people make, plants that don’t exists where I live, strange fruits, underwater worlds, streets threaded in color. I’ve been spending a lot of time in Bali—art is everywhere. It reawakens all the ideas that are living inside of me and gives birth to new ones. It shakes me up and shows me the
