We eat fruits and vegetables to stay healthy and strong. Food enters the body through your mouth. Point to your mouth open wide and say AHHHHHH.

When food is in your mouth you can taste it . How does the food taste?

Does the food taste‌ Bitter? Like an orange peel? Yuck! Sweet? Like a watermelon? Yummy!

Sour? Like a lemon? Eeeh! Is the food hot or cold?

After the food enters the mouth it goes through a body system Do you know what that system of your body is called? Your right! It’s your Digestive System.

When food enters your mouth your salivary glands produce saliva to moisten the food so you can swallow. Once your food is alllllll chewed up. At least thirty chews each bite. 1. Chew Umm 2. Chews Ummmm 3 chew Ummmm! Keep going! Now you’re ready to swallow your food!

Food and air is passed through the pharynx (Far NEX) The pharynx is located in the back of your throat It helps you swallow your food Shhh don’t talk while eating, the pharynx needs silence to

do her work.

Can you say esophagus three times without smiling Esophagus Esophagus Esophagus

The esophagus moves food from the pharynx to stomach Can you point to your stomach?

What are vitamins and minerals? They give you energy and keep you healthy and strong.

Foods that have vitamins and minerals are apples, oranges, grapes, carrots, peas, and broccoli. Can you name fruits and vegetables that have vitamins and minerals?

Your Liver has many jobs to do.

It changes vitamins and minerals to energy. What is energy? Energy is what keeps you alive, it keeps your heart beating Can you point to your heart? Place your hand over your heart and count to 5

Your Pancreas has a place to work under your stomach Can you point to your pancreas? Your pancreas helps the stomach digest food.

Your pancreas makes a green juice drink called insulin

If you drink while eating your food you will wash the digestive fluids all away.

Your body has a small intestine and a big sister large Intestine

This brother and sister team help absorb vitamins and minerals into your body and store

Do you know what waste is? You got it its Trash in the inside body.

The last step of your Digestive system is to take out the trash. The body takes out the trash inside your body 3 times a day through the rectum. Trash needs to come out the anus after every time you eat. Close the bathroom door. You need privacy THE END

Remarks With so much focus on childhood obesity, this book should be a part of curricula in schools and after-school programs everywhere. Consir Thot explains a complex biological process in a manner every child can easily, well, digest." Sonya M. Toler Former Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Governors Advisory Commission on African American Affairs

This book is precisely what we need in an age of misinformation and ignorance. Understanding the body and how it works is a form of liberation leading to self-sufficiency free from the chemical industry that thrives on our ignorance. For far too long, we have lacked the basic understanding of our bodies and what makes it operate in an efficient and healthy manner. This book is the first step in educating our children in proper nutrition. Travis Waters Principal Susquehanna Township Middle School

“ Consir is undertaking a task of significant and singular importance, that is, the health education of early learners. In my opinion, one of the best ways to win the battle against childhood obesity among inner-city youth is to teach our children the basics about their inner-bodies and the harmonious effects on the mind and body when we make healthy food choices. I applaud the author for taking this bold and innovative step forward and eagerly await the Spanish version of the book. Beatrice H. Chakraborty, Psy.D., M.S.Ed. Postdoctoral Associate - Psychiatry University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System Biometrics Research ProgramClinical Research Psychologist; Program and Education Board Chair—Pennsylvania Psychological Association

The education of children about the anatomy and physiology of the body and particularly the function of the digestive system is a crucial step toward reversing the health crisis that is affecting all of us. I commend Consir on a well written and illustrated book. It will educate and inspire more people to address the mis-education of children. This book will keep the fire lit for Black peoples nutritional liberation. Dr Llaila O.
