Coats & Jackets As the weather begins to get colder, it’s important to start thinking about shopping for the perfect women’s coat to bundle up in. A winter coat is essential if you live in a cold climate. Your winter coat is going to be one of your bigger clothing purchases and one of most used items in your closet during the winter, so you should enjoy wearing it. If your outerwear is right for your life and for your shape, you will look your best, no matter the occasion. Consider where you want to wear your winter coat most often. You may want something that is going to fit your daily activities. If every day of your week includes dressing up and going into an office, you would be better off with a classic tailored wool coat. If your day involves taxiing your children to music lessons and sports practices, then you may prefer a sporty parka. Or, you may be shopping for a weekend coat. Think about how your coat will fit into your wardrobe. You’ll be layering your coat over all of your other clothes, so you’ll want the styles to mesh. Miss Gibraltar’s 2nd Princess, Claire Nuñez represented Gibraltar with a perfect performance at the Miss Supranational 2014 in Poland. It was a night not to be forgotten with the crowning of Miss India as Miss Supranational 2014. Asha Bhat, 22, won over 70 stunners from all around the globe. It’s India’s first Grand Slam title since 2000, when Pryianka Chopra won the Miss World crown. 2nd place went to Miss Thailand, 3rd was Miss Gabon, 4th was Miss USA, and in 5th place was the hometown girl, Miss Poland. Miss Supranational Europe was Miss Czech Republic, Miss Supranational Asia & Oceania was Miss Myanmar, Miss Supranational Africa was Miss Equatorial Guinea, and Miss Supranational Americas was Miss Puerto Rico. Special prizes’ winners were: Canada - Miss Congeniality, Denmark - Miss Photogenic, Sweden - Miss Bikini, Malaysia - Best Smile, England - Miss Elegance, Myanmar - Miss Internet and China - Top Model. This month we caught up with Claire to talk about her life, hobbies and to share her experience at this once in a lifetime opportunity. Tell us about yourself.
“I am currently working in Westside Comprehensive School after having obtained a teaching degree. As a sports enthusiast I work closely with the Gibraltar Netball Association. One of my other hobbies, which I have recently discovered, is baking, although this does not fare well with my passion for beauty pageants. I thoroughly enjoy travelling, having visited many countries and look forward to exploring new destinations in the future.”
What made you enter the Miss Gibraltar beauty pageant?
“The Miss Gibraltar pageant has always been something I have aspired to do. When I entered Miss Glamour in 2008 I experienced a thrill whilst being on stage, which I really needed to live again. I love a challenge and I knew this was the right thing for me.”
Share with us your experience at the Miss Supranational pageant.
“The day I arrived was a little daunting, I went to lunch on my own and thought to myself, ‘it’s time to remove any inhibitions and just go for it.’ It was just like in the films where a new girl walks into the school canteen and doesn’t know where to sit. Thankfully the girls I approached were very warming and in no time I befriended 70 beautiful ladies. During the first few days we had filming and our official photographs taken. Soon after we began rehearsals for the night of the final. These routines were a little complex BMAG 8
for some, particularly those with very little dance experience. It was very demanding waking up very early in the morning and rehearsing till late at night. At times we had very little energy left in us, yet we still had a blast rehearsing, making every moment we had together count. Visiting the city of Krakow was one of my highlights, in particular the salt mines. The artwork the miners had created was remarkable. Another of my favourite moments was the participating in Miss Fashion World, where we modelled clothes from local designers and also competed in our national costume. My costume wasn’t the traditional one worn by past Miss Gibraltar winners. I borrowed Charlene Figueras’ who once wore it in Miss Earth. I feel this costume was Gibraltar in a nutshell. It had the sun, the rock with our national flower, the candytuft and finally our beautiful Mediterranean Sea. Before I knew it two weeks had flown by and it was the final countdown before the show. The interviews were done in groups of fives. I delivered mine with passion, expressing my views and making a stance for Gibraltar. On the day of the final, we had our last rehearsals, and then it was straight to hair and make up. All the hard work and preparation was for this moment, and I was ready to put my best foot forward. There were three rounds, national costume, swimwear and evening dress. Then the Top 20 were announced and although I was not selected for this final round, I was still proud of my journey and feel I have become a good ambassador for Gibraltar.”
Tell us about your preparation for the contest.
“As soon as I found out I would be participating in Miss Supranational I knew I had to set myself goals. I really believe this is key in order to get to where you want to be. I stepped up my training regime and kick started my healthy eating plan. I also became a tourist of my own home, as at times you can become complacent of the beauty and history that lies on your own doorstep. I must admit I have spent hours researching into Miss Supranational as well as other pageant blogs. Having a full time job makes it hard to juggle life as a beauty queen as well as that of a successful independent woman. Although I felt ready, whilst speaking to the other contestants, I Iearnt that many go through months of intense preparation. They eat, sleep and breathe pageants, with some even living in a home with personal stylists, chefs and pageant coaches.”
Which has been your absolute favourite moment at the Miss Supranational?
“It’s very hard to pinpoint a favourite moment as I thoroughly enjoyed it all. However my highlight must be the night of the show. I was psyched up and ready to show the world what I had worked for. It was very emotional knowing that I was not only representing myself, but the whole of Gibraltar and I was extremely proud to do so.”
Would you encourage others to enter pageants?
“Absolutely! You gain so much from these experiences. I’ll be completely honest; it isn’t a walk in the park. You will be pushed and tested and it can be very tough. However what you come away with you wouldn’t be able to gain elsewhere.”
Who are your favourite beauty queens?
Can you tell us about some of the highlights of the year for you so far?
“Aside from representing Gibraltar at Miss Supranational I have had the privilege of attending many events. I thoroughly enjoyed opening the Gibraltar Fair alongside the Hon. Steven Linares. I have also attended several charity events, though taking part in MND’s 7-Day Med Step Challenge must be my favourite.”
What advice do you have for future contestants vying for the title of Miss Gibraltar?
“I feel it is important to be yourself and warm up to the other contestants. At times contestants may become too worked up about the competition. I for one don’t see it as a competition against others, but more of a personal challenge, in order to present myself in the best possible way.”
Have you entered in any other beauty pageants? Do you hold any other previous titles/awards?
“I first entered Miss Glamour in 2008 alongside Shyanne Azzopardi, where I won the title of Miss Personality and 2nd Princess. At university I also entered Student Model Search where from over 500 entrants I was selected as one of the final 10 women.”
Describe your fashion scene and style.
“Working as a PE teacher and because of my pastimes I do tend to live in tracksuits most of the time, although I must admit I coordinate them nicely. Aside from that, I don’t think I have a unique sense of style. To be honest I just have a browse through the shops and buy what I like.”
Do you have any nicknames?
“Someone I have followed closely and admire is Miss World 2013, Megan Young. I think she is extremely beautiful, intelligent and very eloquent. I greatly respect the Miss World Organisation and all the work that they do through Beauty with a Purpose. I think it’s very important to take every opportunity that arises with the title for the greater good, and this is exactly what we have seen Megan do.”
“The netball girls I coach call me Hilary after Hilary Duff, though I don’t quite see the resemblance. I’d rather not mention another of my nicknames, though I know what Bianca (B Mag’s Editor) is thinking. Seeing as she can include it anyway… she does call me ‘Hobo’ as I once wore a pair of tartan shorts to a Miss Glamour event. I then confessed that my brother would call me ‘Hobo’ because of it, which she found to be hilarious.”
What would you say to some people who think that beauty pageants are outdated?
Tell us about some of the important lessons and principles you learned from your family?
“Pageants have been around many years and there have been a great deal of changes. Yes, pageants do consider a woman’s physical beauty, but they also take other factors into account. They look for women with confidence, intelligence and drive who will inspire others. These women are judged on their ability to become role models for their community and ambassadors for their countries. More so pageants have recently been working closely with charities. They are standing up and creating awareness for causes they believe in as well as raising funds, which are truly making a difference. Personally I do believe there is a place for pageantry in today’s day and age.”
“My mother has always placed great importance in having the whole family round the table for dinner. We can all become very busy caught up in our own lives and this gives us the opportunity to listen to each other. It’s very important to appreciate and be thankful for the people you have around you, as you never know what tomorrow has in store for us.”
Is cosmetic surgery an unfair advantage in pageant competition? Why or why not?
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
“I believe that every woman should be comfortable in her own skin when putting themselves up for such a competition. I think pageantry should embrace the differences in body types, however it is becoming increasingly common to have surgery to enhance appearances. If a woman feels that surgery will give her more confidence, then I respect their decision.”
Who is your role model and why?
“A person I look up to is my mother. I think she is a remarkable woman. I always think she is in the wrong profession as she is a great agony aunt, always giving the best advice.”
“I think we are not often content with what we have, always seeking more. At this stage in my life I can honestly say I am happy. I feel very fortunate. I am in good health, as are those around me, which is one of the most important factors. I am passionate about my job and engaged to the love of my life.”
What is your greatest fear?
“Losing a loved one. This is something I can’t bare to think about.” BMAG 9
Which talent would you most like to have?
“I’d love to have the ability to sing well and love listening to music, especially artists like Beyonce. Unfortunately singing is not my forte; just ask my family who often have to put up with my singing in the shower.”
What do you consider is your greatest achievement?
“I never thought going to university would be something I would ever do. Nevertheless I took the step and applied to keep my options open and decided to give it a go. I am extremely proud to say I completed a Bachelor of Education in Secondary Physical Education.”
Where would you like to live?
“I wouldn’t want to live anywhere other than here. I think we are extremely fortunate, particularly when considering the other countries that are suffering, be it from wars, recessions or even natural disasters.”
What is your most treasured possession?
“My memories. It’s something I can always carry with me.”
What do you most value in your friends?
“The fact that you can always count on them and to be there sharing your best moments in life as well as being a shoulder to cry on when times are tough.”
If you could travel back in time when and where would you travel?
What is your personal quote or motto that you live by?
“Be the best possible version of yourself.”
If you could go back and start your life over again, what one thing would you do differently?
“I don’t think I would do anything differently. I have no major regrets. I believe there are many lessons learnt whilst growing up and these contribute to becoming the person that you are today.”
What’s inside your bag right now?
“I’d go back to the 1920’s and go to one of the spectacular parties The Great Gatsby used to throw.”
“Nothing out of the ordinary, although a must have during this season are hand moisturiser and lip balm.”
What is the most precious gift you have given to someone?
What are your plans for the immediate future?
“I think teaching someone is the best gift you can give. It’s something that cannot be taken away from them.”
“I don’t have anything planned as of yet, though I would love to get involved in a community project. Aside from that, I’ve got a wedding to plan and looking forward to decorating my new flat, which will be ready in 2016.”
Finally, any beauty secrets that you would like to share with the readers of B Mag?
“I do swear by products from Soap & Glory to keep my skin looking and feeling good. Other than that, as Annie once said ‘you are never fully dressed without your smile’.”

We have high hopes that her fashion won’t let her down from what we’ve seen; Lily has a rebellious streak not unlike her Downton character Lady Rose. The actress doesn’t take the easy route when it comes to what to wear, preferring a modern, daring twist on classic shapes.

Dubbed the new Claudia Schiffer, this German model has become a bit of a darling, especially among Italian designers. While we have no doubt that labels are falling over themselves to lend her clothes, Anna prefers to go casual with sweatshirts, tees and jeans making up the bulk of her look. Take note: she is partial to the odd bit of plaid.

Is Amal Clooney about to make power dressing cool again? We think so. Chiara Ferragni is who those in the fashion know follow for style inspiration. The Italian blogger and Instagram maestro (she has over three million followers) has made her look her business, collaborating with a number of top designers and working with Guess as a model and spokesperson. Her favourite designers are Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabbana but her unique style isn’t easy to pin down. Chiara says she just dresses the way she feels in the morning so some days she’s a rocker girl and others a nerd. Whether it’s leather or vintage specs, there’s no one better at putting together an ensemble.

Another year, another Baldwin. Stephen’s daughter Hailey is only seventeen but she’s already following best pal Kendall Jenner into the modelling biz and impressing photographers and editors alike with her inner poise and striking bone structure. Hailey’s mother is a Brazilian graphic designer and her look is more hip than Hollywood, with a wardrobe consisting of ripped jeans, studded leather jackets and ankle boots.

Fans of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will recognise Gigi, who’s appeared alongside her mum on the show. But the 19-yearold is far more than a reality TV star; Gigi boasts 1 million Instagram followers, is BFF with the Jenners and has walked for the likes of Tom Ford and Chanel. It’s not easy to define this model’s signature look, as she doesn’t really stick to one trend. Monochrome and jumpsuits seem particular favourites, as does anything seriously smart.

FKA Twigs has already won the heart of Robert Pattinson and she’s set to win the heart of the fashion elite too. With a sense of style that’s uniquely her own, the singer, whose mother was a clothing designer, has a fondness for bias cuts, bright hues and crop tops. Snake print is one of those patterns that should always be used in moderation, as overkill is far too easy. This season it appears to be replacing leopard as the must-have animal print, so we’re here to help you out on how to master it. Rule 1:

Tell us a bit about yourself
“Until being elected to Parliament in December 2011, I was completely new to front line politics. However, having said that, I always knew at the back of my mind that this would probably be my destiny. I have grown up in Gibraltar. While at times we may find it claustrophobic, there is a lot to be said for growing up in a close community and the friendliness and warmth that you just don’t get in other places. I am proud to say that my best friends since we were together in school, nursery even, are still my best friends today, how many people can say that! It’s great to be able to have grown up together and always know that we are there for each other. I studied at Cardiff University and ended up living there for almost 10 years because I really loved the place. After my law degree and qualifying as a barrister I undertook a Masters in maritime law. After that, and because I still enjoyed living there so much, I was really fortunate to get a job at the Commission for Racial Equality. That was really the platform for my interest in equality and what it really means. I found the 2 years that I worked there extremely interesting and it provided me with experience as a lawyer that would not have been available to me had I come straight back to Gibraltar to practise. In 2004 I thought that it was the right time to return to Gibraltar and almost immediately I joined the law firm Attias & Levy where I worked until I entered Parliament. I enjoyed being at that firm and the exposure to the different types of work I was fortunate to have. Being a lawyer in Gibraltar certainly provided a good grounding for what I am doing now. In fact, it was because of my professional dealings with social services and the structure within which I saw the professionals working in that sparked my interest in taking the step to see whether I could help in the bigger picture by being part of the next government. I would describe myself as a person with a strong sense of social justice and always wanting to help those who need it. Clearly that is reflected by the ministerial portfolios that I have been allocated.”
B Mag caught up with Minister Tourism, Equality, Social Services and Housing, Samantha Sacramento, who has made significant strides in benefiting the elderly and disabled community of Gibraltar. She sat down to talk to us about what her new ministerial portfolio entails, what it was for her to enter the world of politics, what it’s like to be a woman in Government, including her experience as acting Chief Minister whilst Fabian Picardo and Joseph Garcia addressed the UN Delegation of 24 in New York. As a woman in Government she explains that this challenge sends a strong message to other women who wish to get involved in politics locally. She noted that if the comments on social media are anything to go by, ‘it certainly raises awareness of doors that can be opened for women.’ She says that it doesn’t matter whether a person is a man or a woman, but this appointment certainly does get women thinking about aspirations. Speaking on whether she thought Gibraltar might see a permanent female Chief Minister within the next 20 years, Samantha stated that it is definitely a possibility. She added, ‘what we want to make sure is that the doors to any women who want to consider this as a possibility are not closed.’ Women in politics… read our exclusive interview with Samantha Sacramento

What was it like to enter the world of politics?
“I have always been very interested in politics. I have been raised in a very political family. My granddad was a strong socialist and union activist he also did a lot of charity work and is remembered by many for a lifetime of dedication to others. He was a very good friend of Joe Bossano and always very affectionately referred to him as ‘su niño’ and my granddad has been very active within the GSLP from the very beginning. My parents too are both very political and my dad in particular has always been part of the union, in fact, now that he is retired he is assisting Unite with various projects. It is no wonder that I have grown up with socialist values and literally in the GSLP family, I suppose that that makes me a third generation member of the party. I was very close to my grandfather. I was the only girl in a family of many boys and everyone knew that I was his favourite. He did not miss either of my graduations in Cardiff or my Call to the Bar at Middle Temple in London or in Chambers in Gibraltar. We were particularly close in the few years before he passed away in 2007 and now that I look back on all the chats that we had, I realise that subconsciously he was probably preparing me for this job. Perhaps because I have missed him so much is why I have relished being Minister for the Elderly.
However, there is a difference between debates at home or work as to what should or should not be done and how your country ought to be run, to actually being at the fore and being part of the government. Being a member of the Government is not easy to describe. It is the hardest job because of the intensity of the work and the long hours, the pressure and the responsibility, but it is also the best job because this is how you can make a real difference. And ultimately, that is what it is about, it is about making a difference to people’s lives for the better. I remember discussions with our Chief Minister Fabian Picardo after the 2007 elections and he told me categorically that if I was not happy with the outcome of those elections and I wanted to be part of making a difference then I should either stand or stop complaining. At the time I thought to myself “yeah right, me?” and we never spoke of it again. But the seed had been planted and was always there at the back of my mind. In the run up to the 2011 elections the discontent with the previous administration was palpable. Long before the elections were called I could sense with a lot of people that I spoke to that they were not happy with what was happening in Gibraltar and the way that it was being run, particularly with how money was being spent on things that would not directly benefit the average Gibraltarian. I wanted a change in Government, I had always wanted this anyway because my allegiances lay with a socialist party but I was really worried about the way Gibraltar was being run and felt that it was about time there was a change. Even then though, I did not consider standing for election myself. Then, through
my work and people that I was helping, I had some very distasteful experiences with former administration. After an accumulation of events that really worried me about the way that things were being done I thought to myself, this is it. It happened around a time that the elections had been called and I made that call to Fabian that we had discussed in 2007. The rest is history!”
What was it like to be part of the election campaign?
“To be honest, nothing could have prepared me for that! Even though I had been in the background in election campaigns before, being in it yourself as a candidate is totally different. For me, having come into it at a late stage, it was easier because I just got caught up in the whirlwind; the foundation work had already been done. But even though I joined in at a late stage, it felt completely natural and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was exciting and exhausting but I took it in my stride and as I look back on the campaign I feel very nostalgic. The team is very well managed and our party machinery is second to none so I felt that I was part of one big family. There were people in the party who I had not met before but everyone immediately made me feel welcome.”
What did it feel like once you were elected?
“The only way that I can describe those first few months was surreal. Nothing can prepare you for it. I will always remember that special feeling during election night, the anticipation for the results and the overwhelming relief when the results were called. For me the relief was not so much that we had won, but that the others would no longer be in Government. Then there was that overwhelming feeling of love by the people as we left the Mackintosh Hall and walked down Main Street. It was a long day and we had not slept for weeks and by that point had no sleep the night before but the happiness and adrenaline kept us going. We immediately got down to business and we were allocated our portfolios at our first cabinet meeting. I got straight to work getting to familiarise myself with the staff and my departments and it has been 3 years of solid hard work since then. While the beginning was a steep learning curve, things have settled down on that front now I have made some radical changes as some of the departments that I had inherited had been neglected for far too long, social services in particular needed a lot of restructure and support and an injection of resources. Social Workers are not given the recognition in our community that they ought to have, I have now realised how undervalued they are as a profession, but I hope that with the investment and restructures they now have more tools to be able to discharge their roles better and be given the recognition they deserve. It is very satisfying that things that were originally just concepts and ideas have now come to fruition. It has been wonderful to be able to open a specifically designed day centre for the elderly at Waterport Terraces. I visit the centre as often as I can and I love seeing the enjoyment that the elderly users derive from being there. We have also refurbished the John Mackintosh Wing of the Old St Bernard’s Hospital and it is now sheltered accommodation on the ground floor and a nursing home. Residential care was desperately needed in Gibraltar and by opening the John Mackintosh Home we have been able to offer our elderly community safety and quality of life. We have also refurbished existing buildings such as Mount Alvernia and this has made a tremendous difference. To have removed the scaffolding that was there for 12 years has been a complete game changer and you cannot underestimate how much this has improved the enjoyment of both the residents and staff.
Making a difference is not just about new buildings; it is also looking at the way that things are done. Reviewing structures and prioritising how money is spent is also very important. By undertaking a restructure at Social Services for example, the system now runs much better and efficiently and the social workers are better equipped to undertake the job that they have to do.” BMAG 39
What is the best part of your job?
“By far the best part of the job is being able to make a difference. I am fortunate to be in a position where I can take important decisions and see the benefits of these decisions to real people. Of course I don’t take these alone and I have a wonderful and dedicated team of management and staff who help and advise me. It is also very important that I am a minister in a truly collegiate government and I can discuss matters with my other ministerial colleagues all the time. We work together a lot, as do our respective departments and this means that the end result of whatever we are considering is so much better. One of the best things that I think that I have done is embark on changing Gibraltar’s landscape to make it more accessible. As Minister for Equality I want to ensure that everyone in Gibraltar has the same chances as everyone else. If a person has issues of mobility, I want them to enjoy our culture of going to the beach like everybody else, that is why our Government has had a plan and made our beaches accessible in the past two summers. That is just one example of what is being done for people with disabilities in our community.”
What is the worst part?
“Having to be in the public eye all the time, because I forget that nowadays everyone knows who I am! It’s also very nice because an incredible amount of people who I do not know, come up to me and thank me for doing a good job.”
What is it like to be a woman in Government?
“I am the only woman in our government but I expect to be treated the same as everyone else and I am. I have been acting as Chief Minister twice now. It is a matter of fact that I am the first woman to have done this in Gibraltar’s history, but when I act, it is same as when any of my other colleagues do, the job at hand needs to be done in exactly the same way. I do think that there should be more women in parliament so as to be more representative of our demographic. That is not the same as saying that there should be more women for women’s sake because otherwise it means that women will be token women and that is not what it is about. Equality is about establishing a level playing field and everyone having the same opportunity to get there, and encouraging more women to come forward because they will be treated fairly, but once you are there it has to be the best person for the job. I hope that I can be a role model for anyone who wishes to enter politics.”
What does the future hold?
“My portfolio has changed with the recent cabinet reshuffle and I have been allocated two new ministries and I am no longer responsible for elderly residential care or drug rehabilitation. While I am sad to have lost two subjects that were very close to me and which I had thoroughly enjoyed working on, to be honest, I have always wanted to be Minister for Housing because I think that this is a way of helping a lot of people so I am looking forward to that. I am also incredibly excited about my new role as Minister for Tourism as it brings a different dynamic to the type of work that I have been doing so far, but I am very commercially minded so I can’t wait to learn more about the tourism industry. As we start a new year, I am very much looking forward to commencing a new chapter in my political life and the new challenges that those will bring.”

Breitling has up-sized its classic Navitimer from the decades-old 43mm to 46mm, and created an even larger 48mm case for its new GMT version. We were sceptical, but the big diameter makes for easier reading.
Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 125th anniversary in 1958 coincided with the first “International Geophysical Year”, during which 67 nations got involved in a big push on scientific exploration and experimentation in electromagnetism, seismology, glaciology, radioactivity and solar activity. To mark the two events, JLC created the original Geophysic watch, then one of the toughest and most durable timepieces on the market. Now there’s an updated version, which, despite looking gloriously retro, has been made to the even more rigorous standards of the 21st century.

Choose the Right Bulbs
1 Decide on the look you’re trying to create before choosing the bulbs for your vanity light fixtures. Halogen bulbs are often appreciated for their crisp white light that renders skin tones most accurately and the smaller, compact varieties give a glamorous sparkling effect.

Eliminate the Unflattering Shadows
You know those ugly shadows you get under your chin, cheeks and eyes when you look in the bathroom mirror? They’re not at all flattering and they appear because you’ve chosen to illuminate your bathroom vanity the wrong way. The lighting fixtures should always be mounted on either side of the vanity or on the mirror surface and never above the mirror.
Accent Lighting Needs to be Subtle
Accent lighting is called like that for a reason. It needs to be subtle and has to be positioned correctly in order for you to make the most of it. For example, in the case of the vanity, you can light up the space underneath if it’s wall-mounted or raised off the floor.
Edison Bulbs
Here’s how you can make your own vanity light fixture, if you’re a fan of DIY projects. It’s pretty simple actually. Find a chrome vanity light kind of like this one and, if you want, repaint it to give it this chic antique look. Then go get a pack of Edison bulbs. They’re a bit pricey but they’ll look good in this context. Then hang your light fixture. Here it’s shown above the mirror but you can just as well make two and place them vertically.
Light Up the Area Evenly When placing sconces or pendant lights on either side of the vanity mirror for example, make sure they’re evenly spaced so they don’t cast unwanted shadows. This is something to take into consideration even when employing more unusual methods, such as framing the mirror with LED strips.
Mason Jar Vanity Lighting
And here’s how you can make your own Mason jar vanity light. You’ll need two mason jars, bronze spray paint, spray primer and, of course, the light fixture. Apply a coat of primer and then two coats of paint. Using the flange from the fixture, trace a circle on the middle of the lid. Nail holes close together around the circle, pop out the portion at the middle and assemble the fixture. Do the same thing for the second jar.

BOOK LAUNCH
“Momentos de la Vida” by Sonia Golt was launched on Wednesday 3rd December. Speaking to Sonia she said, “This year my father Ralph Torrilla would have been 100 years old and this is why I have collected all his writings and poems and made a compilation of all of his works into a book called “Momentos de la Vida” so that it is there for posterity. He has many poems dedicated to our culture, our heritage and the Evacuees, as well as a host of love poems and many others regarding other aspects of life.” The book is sold at local bookshops at £9 with part proceeds donated to the Bosom Buddies Cancer trust.

CONVENT CHRISTMAS FAIR
The annual Convent Christmas Fair took place on Thursday 28th November. The fete displayed over 40 festive stalls, many of which were run by local charities as part of their own fund-raising efforts. Every year the Convent Christmas Fair committee chooses charities in Gibraltar to benefit from the Christmas Fair fund raising efforts. This monies raised at the fair was donated to the Gibraltar Alzheimer’s and Dementia Society (GADS) and towards the setting up of a Snoezelen Room at the new Day Care Centre.
