Our job in the Advancement Office at Crescent School is twofold: to make friends and raise funds, always in that order. We support Crescent’s mission, Men of Character from Boys of Promise, through a multitude of alumni programs and fundraising initiatives for our graduates, current and past parents, grandparents, students, faculty and staff, and friends. This report accounts for gifts made from July 1, 2013 through to June 30, 2014, and as always, we sincerely thank each and every donor who made a financial contribution to the School during this period of time. You make us a better institution, and we are very grateful. Highlights from the 2013-14 fiscal year include: • $3.007 million pledged in new commitments to the School • Almost $1.2M donated in support of Parent Annual Giving, including many double up and triple up commitments • 72 Crescent families have pledged commitments ranging from $100,000 to $5 million in support of the Great Boys campaign • During the Great Boys campaign, we have raised $3.4 million in funding to support both endowed and expendable needs-based Student Financial Aid • $ 11.65 million pledged toward the $13 million Library and Latifi Family Commons project, the final capital initiative of the Great Boys campaign • T hanks to those who have already made major gift commitments, we achieved sufficient funding to break ground on the Library in June 2013, and construction on the Latifi Family Commons began in early June 2014 With more than $29.25 million pledged toward the Great Boys campaign, we are optimistic that we will secure enough commitments during the 2014-15 year to surpass our $30 million goal. We have $1.4 million left to raise to fully fund the Library and Latifi Family Commons project, along with programmatic initiatives that include International Outreach, Robotics and Technology and Crescent Student Services. We look forward to partnering with more families in the coming year to bring this landmark campaign to a successful end. With your help, we will help to provide facilities and programs that will further enhance the Crescent experience for current and future generations of students. I think it is critical to mention that none of our success within the Great Boys campaign would be possible without the tireless work, support and dedication of Campaign Co-Chairs, Paul Tompkins P’10, ’12, ’13 and Barb Black P’08, ’10, ’14. The Crescent community owes Barb, Paul and our Development Committee a huge debt of gratitude for their dedication to the campaign, and we sincerely thank our volunteers for their leadership and generosity. Thank you for your continuing support of Crescent School! Sincerely, John Lynch P’16, ‘18 Chief Advancement Officer

I am proud to report that 2013-14 was another successful year for the Crescent Alumni Executive and for the many and varied programs we offer to the alumni community we have the privilege of serving. I am honoured to work alongside a tremendous group of alumni who volunteer their time as part of the Alumni Executive and thank them for their tireless work on behalf of Crescent’s graduates, young and old. 2013-14 was a year of evolution for the Alumni Executive which involved a significant and meaningful re-branding exercise, the re-launching of our Alumni Mentorship Program, expansion and success of our Alumni Internship Program in asking current parents for job placements, and a tremendous amount of work, in tandem with the Advancement Office, to build and develop our new By Alumni, For Alumni Annual Giving program, which launched this fall. In both our 2008 and 2013 Alumni Surveys, a significant number of alumni told us that they are interested in financially supporting their school and that they are particularly interested in the area of needs-based student financial aid, giving talented and deserving students, whose families could not otherwise afford some or all of tuition, the opportunity to have the Crescent education that they so value. Armed with that information, the Crescent Alumni Executive, along with the Advancement Office, developed the By Alumni, For Alumni program. The program’s goal is two-fold: to increase the number of alumni supporting Crescent School via charitable giving, and to increase the amount of needs-based student financial aid available to deserving boys. In addition, the By Alumni, For Alumni initiative will raise funds for needsbased student financial aid with the preference for the sons of alumni with an aim of bringing more alumni back to campus as dads. We are really excited about what this program and our alumni can do to give back to their school and to make a meaningful difference in the lives of deserving young men. I want to take this opportunity to offer my thanks, on behalf of the Alumni Executive Committee, to the Advancement Office, and in particular, Kathryn Rutherford, for their great work and support throughout 2013-14. Sincerely, Rob Watt ’85, P’14 Chair, Crescent Alumni Executive

As at June 30, 2014, The Crescent School Foundation achieved a year end value of $9.011 million, its highest year end closing ever. This increase of almost $1.5 million from the previous fiscal year is due in part to almost $600,000 in new donations, and market gains. New donations were directed towards a number of Great Boys campaign priorities, including Student Financial Aid, Robotics and Technology, Crescent Student Services and International Outreach, and other endowed funds supporting Prize Day awards, Local Outreach, and Music. I’d like to offer a special thank you to the students and parents of the Class of 2014 who established the Class of 2014 Bursary Fund in support of needs-based student financial aid with a preference for the sons of alumni. This is the first endowed By Alumni, For Alumni bursary, as well as being the largest graduating class gift in the last 20 years with over $51,000 being raised before the end of the fiscal year. Annually, the Foundation distributes funds to the School in support of various programs in perpetuity. In addition to the campaign programmatic initiatives, the Foundation’s annual disbursement continues to support Local Outreach, scholarships, prizes and bursaries, Leadership in Sports, Mathematics, Athletics and Music. The Foundation’s Directors review quarterly and annual financials, and establish and review both investment and disbursement policies, as well as the firms that we employ to manage Foundation funds, in an effort to preserve and grow the Foundation’s assets in the long term. There are currently three primary objectives of the Foundation’s Investment Policy and Guidelines: a) Income Objective – the fund will seek to provide a reliable source of funds for disbursement consistent with the spending requirements of the Foundation; b) Long Term Growth Objective - The fund will seek to provide a real rate of return consistent with long term growth of capital, factoring in inflation, with reasonable and prudent levels of risk; and c) Capital Preservation Objective – The fund will seek to diversify its holdings and allocate assets in order to minimize individual security and sector risks. The Directors of the Foundation strive to ensure these objectives are being achieved. The money donated by individuals is very important to us, and we take our responsibilities very seriously. We hope we will continue to deserve your trust and confidence in the years ahead. As always, I encourage you to consider supporting the Foundation and, in particular, one or more of the campaign’s programmatic initiatives through a gift to the Foundation’s Endowment. All donations will receive a charitable gift receipt from The Crescent School Foundation, for tax purposes. I’d like to thank the Advancement and Finances Offices at Crescent School for their hard work on behalf of The Foundation. On behalf of the Foundation’s Board, I also want to take this opportunity to thank retiring Director, Jason Melbourne ’90, P’23, for his invaluable service over the past 6 years. Sincerely, Barry Gordon ’87, P’21 Chair, The Crescent School Foundation

During 2013-14, we experienced another great year of philanthropic support from the Crescent School community toward the Great Boys campaign. Construction continued on the new Library and in June work began on the Latifi Family Commons. We secured over $3 million in new donations with notable commitments being made in support of endowed and expendable Student Financial Aid, Robotics & Technology, and the Library and Latifi Family Commons. We are very grateful to many members of the Crescent Family for joining us in financially supporting the transformative initiatives of the Great Boys campaign through their leadership level support. As has been the case since the campaign launched in 2010, major gifts are a key component to the success of Great Boys thus far. However, we also owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to the vast majority of Crescent parents who faithfully support the Parent Annual Giving program every year. Many families continue to double or triple their contributions for each son, and we are particularly grateful for their strong support. Parents consistently contribute over $1 million each year via the Parent Annual Giving program, which in turn helps to fund campaign priorities including the Library and Latifi Family Commons, the Lau Family Wing, the Margaret Donnelly Lower School Library and our four programmatic initiatives for International Outreach, Robotics and Technology, Crescent Student Services and Student Financial Aid. Over the lifetime of the Great Boys campaign, Annual Giving will contribute in the range of $5 - $6 million toward our $30 million goal. Going forward, we will be working hard to complete the Great Boys campaign and raise the remaining $1.4 million needed to fully fund all capital projects and programmatic initiatives. We hope that those families who have not yet supported Great Boys will add their names to the ever-growing list of donors. We greatly appreciate the number of current and past parents, alumni, grandparents and friends who have and will consider making a stretch commitment to ensure our collective success. We are so proud to be part of the Crescent School family, which year after year, continues to inspire us with its generosity, encouragement, commitment and love for this School – our school. Sincerely, Barb Black P’08, ’10, ’14 and Paul Tompkins P’10, ’12, ’13 Great Boys Campaign Co-Chairs
