Giorgio my friend My friend Giorgio

People say that in a faraway country named Australia, there once lived a very large sea bird; he wasn’t a heron or a flamingo.

His beak was long and wide, with a large sack underneath, where he kept all the food that he caught.

What bird could it be?

Here is his picture.

He was a beautiful pelican, with black and white feathers, a pink beak and a ring of gold around each eye.

His name was Giorgio and he lived near to a marvellous beach in a natural park in Melbourne, where he went fishing every day.

As soon as it got light, Giorgio and his friends used to leave their homes, spread out their wings and start to fly, gliding high in the sky, like planes. Then, they would open their eyes wide and look out across the sea, in search of food. What they liked to eat most were fish and crabs.

Whenever Giorgio saw a fish, swimming in the sea, he would dive quickly, head first, from the sky towards the sea, plunging deep into the water and opening his beak to let the fish swim into his sack.
