Toni lives with his family by the sea. His father is a fisherman. They live in a simple home. Toni’s father doesn´t earn a lot of money but they are happy with what they have. Toni’s grandfather, his great-grandfather and his greatgreat-grandfather were all fishermen. When he grows up, Toni also wants to become a fisherman. He loves joining his father to catch fish. His father feels great respect for nature and knows all the peculiarities of the tide, the currents, the specific winds and the climate.
One marvelous day, Toni and his father sail out into the sea together in their green-colored boat. And Toni’s father says to him, “Today I’ll show you a place where there are many shoals of tuna. Close to the tuna there are normally many dolphins.” Toni is really happy and throughout the whole trip he keeps looking out for the dolphins.
All of a sudden he sees five grey dolphins: they’re riding the waves and jumping over them together. Toni screams full of excitement, “Look dad, there are so many!”
Toni knows that dolphins have very sensitive hearing. He takes the horn which his dad always carries on board and carefully sounds it close to the water in order to attract the dolphins. For a while nothing happens, but then suddenly, next to Toni something starts to splash around in the water and splatters him from head to toe! The five dolphins are jumping joyfully aside the green boat. Toni says excitedly, “Look, they’re greeting us!” His father answers, “Yes, they are very intelligent. Would you like to ride one of them?” Toni gazes skeptically at his dad, “Are you being serious? Me, alone? And what if it doesn’t want to bring me back?” But his dad calms him down, “Don’t be afraid, they’re loving creatures and really like kids.”
