Book Worm
Autumn 2011 Edition 1
P O W E R R E A D E RS An exciting new reading initiative has been launched by the English Department at the beginning of the Summer Term 2011. This scheme is open to Shells to 3rd Years and involves reading books from a number of different genres. The Librarians, ably supported by Pupil Librarians, are in the process
of arranging all the fiction books into genre categories so that book choices are made easier. We’ve not quite finished yet, so please bear with us! Readers start at the Bronze level and then progress to Silver and Gold. For the Bronze award pupils will need to read 9 books from 5 different genres.
A U T HOR V I S I TS At the end of the Summer Term we enjoyed two author visits to Bablake: Mark Robson presented a talk on his new book Devil’s Triangle to 3rd Years on Friday 1st July. Mark was an operational pilot with the RAF for over twenty years. He started writing books in 1995. The Devil’s Triangle is a mix of contemporary drama and science fiction thriller.
Ann Evans also came to speak to Shells on Tuesday 5th July. Ann is no stranger to Bablake as she has been presenting talks here for the past few years. We always welcome her visits - she spoke to us about how she became an author and signed copies of her Beast Trilogy books and her new children’s book about the history of Coventry – in it Bablake School gets a mention!
Certificates are issued for each level and prizes will be awarded. Mrs Needham and Mrs Ryan are always available to recommend books. Good luck to all those participating; we look forward to welcoming you all to the Library!
