WORLD BOOK DAY It is World Book Day on Thursday 6th March 2014. £1 book vouchers will be given out to every pupil in School to buy selected free books or as a voucher towards any book from participating bookstores. Look out for competitions, quizzes and craft sessions in the Library to celebrate this event. Something else to celebrate – former pupil Alex T Smith has been chosen as this year’s illustrator for World Book Day. Alex is no stranger to Bablake -he visited School recently to promote his series of books on the character ‘Claude ‘and was actively involved in last year’s Coventry Book Festival.
Book Worm CHESS This continues to be a popular pastime in the Library. Much to the joy of all, a superb hand crafted set has been donated to the Library by the widow of Frank Lovell, a lifelong chess enthusiast and supporter of the Coventry Schools’ Chess League.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR The Library hosted a Scholastic Book Fair from 11th to 15th November to coincide with Reading Week. This is an annual event and this year’s Fair was extremely well supported. We had record sales this year, selling in excess of £700 worth of books and stationery. Commission on these sales resulted in £350 worth of books for the Library. Well done everyone!
50TH ANNIVERSARY OF DR WHO To celebrate this prestigious occasion for Science Fiction lovers everywhere, we ran a Dr Who competition open to Shells, 2nd and 3rd Years. The display was very eye catching, thanks to the artistic skills of Ms Daley who created a Tardis post box for entries! The winning entry was submitted by Zahrah Jahangir in Shell G who received a £10 book token. Congratulations!
