This has certainly been an exciting term. What is most noticeable as I reflect back on a new life here in Coventry is how friendly and welcoming everyone has been. Thank you. Here at school the dedication of the students has been fantastic to see. The air of motivation that emanates from all the classrooms; the pupils, their supportive and hard working parents and teachers, all makes for a most purposeful feeling to life. Everyone is clearly pulling in the same direction. We have been most successful in helping lots of people through our charity work this term, raising over £3,000 for various good causes including The Roald Dahl Foundation, The Sir Malcolm Sargent Children’s Cancer Charity and Global Care. The Parents’ Association have also continued their excellent work with the Christmas Fayre being another notable triumph. The Christmas Concert was excellent and I am sure we have all enjoyed the Form Assemblies. On the games field the majority of pupils have had the chance to represent the school and usually most successfully too. The U11 boys are still in three cup competitions and the girls have played magnificently, winning many of their netball fixtures. Our Boys Cross Country team was second in the Coventry Primary School’s competition, beating twenty nine schools in the process. Richard Price ran exceptionally to become the Coventry School’s U11 Champion. Everyone has pulled together to continue to make Bablake Junior School a very special place to be. Well done.

A Merry Christmas to you all. Neil Price

Bablakesuccess NETBALL with Mrs Reed This has been a successful term for the school netball teams. Early October saw the Year 5 team finish as runners-up in the Coventry High Fives Netball Festival held at Bablake School. This was an encouraging result since the Bablake team was competing against Year 6 teams from other schools. The majority of the 16 matches have taken place after school, those recently played under Bablake School’s floodlights. Wednesday lunchtime netball club attracts over 30 enthusiastic Year 5 & 6 girls and many girls have represented Bablake Junior in matches. Their hard work at practices has resulted in several impressive victories: 9-2 v King Henry VIII Junior, 6-2 & 8-2 v Coventry Prep School, 16-0 v Allesley Primary School and 4-0 v Christ the King School.

At present Bablake Junior have an unbeaten run of 7 matches. We look forward to continued success in matches and tournaments next term.

HOCKEY CLUB with Mr Bogyer Hockey is proving to be very popular this year with almost 70 children from all year groups attending the one of the weekly clubs. We have been most fortunate that Mr Johnson (England International) the new Head of Boys’ Hockey in the Senior School has allocated some of his time to help coach the Junior School pupils. The girls started the season with a match against Arnold Lodge and a Festival at Princethorpe. At both venues we saw a lot of determined play and although we did not win our games we scored goals and were able to set our sights on developing skills for future matches. The boys as yet have no fixtures but are training hard. We are again entering teams in both the boys and girls National Preparatory Schools tournaments and the National Junior Mini Hockey Championships which will take place next term. We will also be arranging some fixtures against other schools and possibly local clubs.

BOYS’ CROSS COUNTRY with Mr Collier Despite the rather muddy conditions the weather was perfect for the first major cross country event of the year. Thirty one Schools entered teams which meant there were more than 150 runners in each of the ‘A’ and ‘B’ races. The ‘A’ teams were first to go, and despite a false start, all our runners moved towards the front of the pack in the opening stages. Richard Price took an early lead and never really looked in danger of losing it. It was great to see the whole team perform to such a high standard, with Richard finishing 1st, Jack Webber 13th and Chris Sewell 21st. Henry Scott and Charles Taylor also ran extremely well and the boys’ team finished 2nd overall. The ‘B’ team also had an extremely good race with Rory Kenney-Herbert being the top placed Bablake pupil in 13th place. Considering Rory is still in Year 4, this is quite an achievement. All the boys performed admirably and the team finished 6 th overall. Well done to all the boys who took part and to all the parents who came along to offer their support.

FOOTBALL with Mr Collier The football season got off to a good start, with both our Year 6 and 5 teams producing good performances to beat teams from Twycross Hall in the first week of term. The U11 team has also enjoyed a good start to the competitive season, being unbeaten in the league and various cup competitions. Highlights have been 3-2 victories against both Ernsford Grange in the Harry Shaw Cup, and Limbrick Wood in the Alan Stokehill Cup. In the latter, the boys came from 2-0 down to win the game with 3 fantastic goals from Jack Webber in the closing 15 minutes. The Year 5 team enjoyed a successful run in the tournament at Repton Prep School, unfortunately losing out in the final to a dubious penalty in extra time! In their first competitive games of the season, the Year 3 and 4 teams thoroughly enjoyed their matches against Solihull School. The Year 4 ‘A’ team came away with a 3-3 draw, which was a very good result against a strong team. We look forward to charting their progress over the coming months.

Bablakecreative The Icy Day Autumn is an icy day with fairy birds and an ice dragon in the sky. It is a girl walking through the woods stamping on giant crisps. It is cold and you can smell the cold and smoke from fires. And the ice dragon blowing ice on the red, yellow, brown, gold, orange, green and crimson leaves. Lauren Pany 3L

Mrs Shilton once again does a great job with the tree. School is…..

Mr Baker Keeps One dog, muddy and smelly. Two rats, not dead but black. Three octopuses, in a big tank. Four ear wigs, weedy and reeky. Five cats, white and black. Six weasels, all dead. Seven hamsters, annoying and small. Eight pigs, lazy and fat. Nine donkeys, they stink, at that. Ten pythons, which have eaten him up!!!! Bablake Junior School Coundon Road Coventry CV1 4AU

Today is not a good day, I woke up sick in bed. My stomach has a stabbing pain, That’s spreading to my head. My knees are weak and achy, My eyes are full of flu. I fear I may contaminate, I have a fever too. I cannot see, I cannot breath, I cannot read or write. My eyes are shut, my nose is blocked, I’m not a pretty sight. I cannot lift a finger, Or move a tired toe. My throat is hot and scratchy, The answer is simply NO…. I cannot go to school today, I’m awfully sorry too, This had to happen on the day, My book report is due.
