CHAIRMAN / CEO REPORT

W Irene Dorner Chairman, Board of Directors BritishAmerican Business President and CEO HSBC USA Group Managing Director HSBC Holdings

e are pleased to report that BritishAmerican Business recorded another year of substantive growth in FY’14, as well as its 13th successive year of operational profitability.

As the economic outlook improved, companies ramped up their interest in the high quality business connections and insights that we offer, to help them take advantage of the emerging business opportunities. As a result, we were able to continue to expand both our programming and our membership on both sides of the Atlantic. We significantly increased our programming of intimate, high level occasions – such as our CEO and Policymaker Roundtables – bringing C-Suite executives together with CEOs, thought leaders and government decision makers, to build strategic business relationships and share intelligence on key business topics (some of our speakers and topics are listed on Pages 4, 5 and 6.) We also expanded our programming, such as our Women’s Forum, focused on particular sectors of our membership, and launched several new initiatives for our membership at large. On policy issues, we continued to play a proactive leadership role on the EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which offers massive potential benefits for our members as well as for the UK, EU and US economies at large. We were also active on other issues such as taxation, regulation, IP, aviation infrastructure and immigration.

Richard Fursland CBE CEO BritishAmerican Business

These various initiatives enabled us to continue to increase our membership, particularly among large multinational companies, and to further strengthen our influential International Advisory Board and Board of Directors (listed on Pages 12-15). The active engagement of our members, our Directors and our Advisory Board members has been central to our continuing growth and success, and we look forward to continuing to partner closely with you all throughout the coming year and beyond.

Irene Dorner Chairman, Board of Directors BritishAmerican Business 2

Richard Fursland CBE CEO BritishAmerican Business

B

ritishAmerican Business reported another year of operational profitability in FY’14, as it has done every year since its establishment in 2001, despite the tight controls that companies maintained on their discretionary budgets. This represents a substantial achievement, given the economic difficulties and slow growth environment of recent years. Membership and sponsorship, supported by increased revenues from our expanded J1 Visa program, continued to represent the overwhelming majority of revenues; and costs continued to be well controlled. While the economic environment is unlikely to become any easier, BritishAmerican Business has consistently demonstrated its ability to succeed through challenging times.

POLICY WORK

>> POLICY

W

>>>>>>>>>

e continued to step up the level and reach of our policy work in FY’14, in three respects.

We further expanded our program of forums to bring select groups of senior executives together with leading government decision makers, to share and advance their priorities and concerns on key policy issues affecting the business community. We stepped up our leadership role in promoting the prospective EU-US Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership (TTIP), which would bring massive benefits to our members and to the UK, US and EU economies at large. This has included both submitting policy recommendations to government to improve the negotiation outcomes and launching and running an EU-US Trade & Investment Forum, an All-Party Parliamentary Group on TTIP in London, a website focusing on the negotiations, and a roadshow series on TTIP in regional business centers. We also took a more active advocacy role with government on behalf of our members on other issues of particular concern, including taxation, immigration, regulation, IP and aviation infrastructure. Our credibility and influence with government on policy issues is enhanced by the fact that we speak for a substantial, high level and broad based cross section of the transatlantic business community, including more than 2,000 member companies of the British-American Business Council, as well as our own membership.

Peter Sands Group CEO Standard Chartered

>> A t a time when there is the danger of greater parochialism in regulation and legislation, we strongly support the work done by BritishAmerican Business in promoting free markets, a level playing field and business friendly government policies for international business. <<

Mark S. Garvin

Vice Chairman, Corporate & Investment Bank, and Chairman, Europe, JP Morgan

>> BritishAmerican Business has played a vital leadership role in building support and momentum behind TTIP, as it has done behind other policy initiatives that are important to the transatlantic business community. <<
