BRITISHAMERICAN BUSINESS CHAIRMAN / CEO REPORT
W
e are pleased to report that BritishAmerican Business recorded another year of growth in FY’15, and a 14th successive year of operational profitability. Much of our success is due to the strong foundations our successful founder and former CEO, Richard Fursland CBE, helped build. Richard continues in an advisory capacity following his retirement in February.
Nicholas C. Walsh Chairman, Board of Directors BritishAmerican Business Senior Advisor AIG Property Casualty
Jeffries Briginshaw CEO BritishAmerican Business
The economic climate has improved on both sides of the Atlantic, and companies are now more freely able to invest time and resources in the high-quality business connections and opportunities that we help create. As a result, we have been able to strengthen our influential International Advisory Board and Board of Directors (listed on pages 12-15). We are a network with a purpose and stand for the best of transatlantic business at work to deliver superior performance and returns in global markets. We delivered a high quality program on both sides of the Atlantic during FY ’15 and our ‘content rich’ events helped our members to build new relationships and strengthen old ones. Our program includes top-level C-Suite roundtables with business leaders and government decision-makers. We also offer outstanding thought leadership events and forums, such as The Women’s Forum – our single best attended network. On policy issues, we play a proactive leadership role for the EU-US Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), which we believe offers significant potential benefits for our members and for the UK, EU, and US economies at large. As we approach a 'window' of political opportunity to get a deal done ahead of next year’s US Presidential election, we will continue to ‘lift weight’ for TTIP within and beyond our membership. More broadly we are active on many current issues of ongoing concern to members including immigration, taxation, and economic sanctions. Some of our top speakers and thought leadership topics are listed on pages 4-6. For the year ahead we are looking forward to the launch of a new website which will allow us to provide our leading content across a stronger mix of platforms and social networks. We believe this will complement our core physical network, add greater visibility to our brand and identity and reach a wider public.

ritishAmerican Business reported another year of operational profitability in FY’15, as it has done every year since its establishment in 2001, despite the tight controls that companies maintained on their discretionary budgets. This is a substantial achievement and will help to drive our investment in the tools we need to sustain our value proposition in FY'16 and beyond. Membership and sponsorship, supported by increased revenues from our expanded J-1 Visa program, continued to represent the overwhelming majority of revenues; and costs continued to be well controlled.

e continued to step up the level and reach of our policy work in FY’15, in three respects in particular:
A relevant transatlantic voice of business BritishAmerican Business speaks for the businesses that ‘drive’ one of the most important and integrated economic relationships anywhere in the world. Our brand and mission seek to champion the UK-US economic relationship as a source of strength for our members’ global businesses and ambitions. We encourage our governments to lead and focus on key issues such as Competitiveness, Capital Markets and Financial Services, completing the European Single Market, and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). We advocate policies that help to ensure that the transatlantic market as a whole remains an attractive destination for business and a credible global leadership template. A creative and efficient way of policy advocacy In our TTIP work, we learned that it is sometimes not enough to speak about the geopolitics and global dimension of a policy to win new converts to a cause. We are training ourselves to deliver from a "grassroots" perspective in order to convey the impact of a policy to those who will be directly affected by it in practical ways. The continuing success of our work, in particular the launch of the report ‘Local, Specific, Tangible’ and our new TTIP event series ‘Open for Business’ where we have ‘drilled down’ deeper into the sectoral TTIP opportunity, shows that we can deliver creative new platforms for policy advocacy.
Ivan Rogers the UK's Permanent Representative to the EU
>> I was delighted to host the launch of BAB’s 2015 report on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) in Brussels. ‘Local, Specific, Tangible’ is a great piece of evidence of UK trade and investment ambitions and should inform the TTIP debate in the UK and beyond.<<
An enhanced credibility and influence with governments BritishAmerican Business speaks for more than 500 member companies and acts as a voice for the member companies of the British-American Business Council (BABC) network, also encompassing a substantial, high-level and broad-based cross-section of the transatlantic business community city by city across North America and the UK. Added to our strong links to the US Chamber of Commerce and the global AmCham family we have credibility and influence with governments and other policy stakeholders on both sides of the Atlantic on the issues that matter to our membership.
Richard Currie,
Director of Public Affairs, UPS UK, Ireland and Nordics
>> As Co-Chair of the BAB Policy Forum, I welcome the influence that BritishAmerican Business provides with its timely and sturdy policy work over topics such as trade, inter-company transfers, and infrastructure all of which are so important for a successful transatlantic business community. << 8
