ADVANCING GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURIAL LEARNING

Letter from the Dean

Advancing Entrepreneurship Education Across Boundaries

I am thrilled to present the 2024 Babson Academy Impact Report, a testament to our collective efforts. While collaborating with entrepreneurial minds from so many backgrounds this year, I was reminded of the importance of crossing boundaries and building bridges to advance our work collectively. This year’s theme, “Entrepreneurship Education Across Boundaries,” highlights our commitment to breaking barriers—geographic, socioeconomic, cultural, generational—to make entrepreneurship education accessible to all.

In 2024, we strengthened connections across 76 countries, engaging over 1,010 educators and learners. This report provides a few vignettes of how countless colleagues at Babson and beyond are advancing entrepreneurship education.

This year, I had the privilege of visiting institutions around the world to witness the impact of entrepreneurship education. My journey took me to the American University of the Middle East in Kuwait; ATLAS SkillTech University in India; Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic; EDC Paris Business School and Toulouse Business School in France; Universidad Siglo 21 in Argentina; ShanghaiTech University, Tongji University, and Wahaha International School in China; as well as the New England Innovation Academy here in Massachusetts. These visits provided invaluable insights into diverse approaches and innovative strategies for fostering entrepreneurial mindsets and skills.

Our work not only builds bridges, it inspires transformation, regardless of age. Through the Youth Impact Lab and Babson Summer Study for High School Students, diverse secondary school students and educators engaged with the U.N. Global Goals, applying their entrepreneurial skills to social issues. Our launch of scalable digital learning modules in India and scholarships for HBCU students underscores our commitment to fostering inclusive and impactful access.

I am profoundly grateful to the Babson Academy team and our community of educators and partners. Together, we are empowering the next generation of entrepreneurial changemakers to overcome boundaries and create lasting impact. Looking ahead, I am energized by the potential for continued collaboration and innovation in 2025. Thank you for being a part of this inspiring journey.

ACCESS

This year, access was a key goal as we worked to remove geographic and financial boundaries and share the gift of entrepreneurship education with the global community of educators and students. We engaged with over 1,010 educators in 76 countries in 2024.

Italy, Cameroon, Uganda, Georgia, Nigeria, Benin, Mauritius, Lesotho, Zambia, Namibia, Taiwan, Philippines, Ivory Coast, Bahrain, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Turkey, Somalia, Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia, Burundi, Bangladesh, Tunisia

Reaching Entrepreneurs Everywhere

In 2024, we found new ways to increase access to entrepreneurship education pedagogy and learning. We removed financial barriers for educators and students at HBCUs, developed new scalable digital learning modules that reached over 1,000 learners in India, and built custom programs to support schools in Chile and South Africa.

Breaking Down Financial Boundaries in the U.S. and Beyond

New Scholarship for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)

This year, Babson Academy offered a new scholarship for Babson Build and Price-Babson SEE. It covered full tuition and a travel stipend for 10 HBCU students and 12 HBCU faculty from Medgar Evers College, CUNY, and Clark Atlanta University.

Patrick Livers, class of 2027 at Clark Atlanta University, is a member of the international team that won this year’s Babson Build Pitch Competition for their venture, FitMe. “The best part of my time at Babson was the hospitality, networking, and opportunities,” says Patrick. He goes on to share that “This was my first time connecting with so many people from around the world. I loved it so much. . . . It gave me a new perspective on life.” Patrick would like for his lasting impact in the world to be motivational. “If they can do it, you can do it.”

Summer Study Scholarships for Students Around the World

In 2024, Babson Academy awarded 51 full scholarships for students in 16 countries to attend the Babson Summer Study for High School Students.

“Babson Summer Study is transformative! It ignites the flame and the mentality required for young entrepreneurs to create a change in society. It redefines your purpose and pushes you off your limits to achieve that purpose through a strong team, mentors, and professors.”

STUDENT HIGHLIGHT

Building New Partnerships with Stellenbosch University in South Africa

We welcomed 13 students and 1 faculty member from Stellenbosch Business School’s MBA program to Babson’s Boston campus in a new five-day custom program. Students experienced the thriving innovation ecosystem of Babson and the international city of Boston. The program included visits to the Cambridge Innovation Center (CIC) and Microsoft, where students learned about cutting-edge entrepreneurial projects and gained insights into the future of technology.

“I had an incredible experience with Stellenbosch and Babson as we explored the field of entrepreneurship. Highlights included the experience of Boston as a city, Microsoft’s technology center and innovation lab, and Babson’s maker lab, as well as the vast array of guest speakers and company and cultural visits.”

Collaborating with the Luksic Foundation in Chile: Entrepreneurship as a Life Skill

Supporting students within the Higher Technical Vocational Education (TVET) system of Chile is a priority for the Luksic Foundation. To nurture the entrepreneurial mindset of these students, the Foundation worked with Babson Academy to create a pilot program for 44 TVET undergraduate students from the Chilean Lake District.

The six-week program leveraged our Entrepreneurial Mindset

Scalable Digital Learning Modules, translated into Spanish and delivered asynchronously, alongside highly interactive weekly team challenges that focused on entrepreneurial resiliency skills. It also featured two live virtual sessions where students played our new Mindset Game

(in Spanish). The program culminated with an in-person weekend in Chile. The grand prize of scholarships to Babson Build was awarded to the team who earned the most points by successfully executing on the challenges and demonstrating high levels of engagement throughout the program.

Introducing Scalable Digital Learning Modules in India

In 2024, Babson Academy built out a 10-module, digital entrepreneurship course for thousands of science and technology students at MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences. These scalable digital learning modules complement our traditional custom programs with highquality, asynchronous content, impacting more total learners in deeper ways. This format allows for the cascading of skills and knowledge throughout an institution, organization, or region.

This new program follows last year’s participation of 11 educators in our Studio for Entrepreneurship Educators in Asia. Another cohort of educators attended Studio Asia at the end of 2024.

Scalable Digital Learning Modules for MS Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences

Produced with some of Babson’s best faculty, this new program provided students with highly produced videos, exercises, preparation materials, assessments, and more in topics including:

• Entrepreneurial Mindset

• Problem Solving, Purpose-Driven Social Impact

• Designing for Change and Impact

• Prototyping Basics

• Opportunity Evaluation

• Innovation and Entrepreneurial Leadership

• Identifying and Attracting Customers

• Business Model Basics

INSPIRE

INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION IN K-12 LEARNING WORLDWIDE

From the U.S. to Saudi Arabia and beyond, we’re sharing the hope of entrepreneurship education with students and educators in K-12 institutions everywhere.

The Youth Impact Lab Inspires Entrepreneurship Everywhere

“Teachers hold the key to inspiring the next generation of changemakers. By equipping K-12 educators with innovative pedagogical tools and strategies, we empower them to cultivate resilient youth with the agency and mindset to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges.”

The Youth Impact Lab began providing summer study opportunities to high schoolers in 2011. Since 2020, we have also supported K-12 educators in guiding the next generation of entrepreneurial changemakers through educator training and providing entrepreneurship programming to middle and high school students through custom programs.

EPIC

Curriculum and the Certificate in Youth Entrepreneurship Education

The Youth Impact Lab’s Entrepreneurship Program for Innovators and Changemakers (EPIC) curriculum helps students understand business concepts while introducing them to social entrepreneurship and the U.N. Global Goals.

We partner with school systems and schools, nonprofits, communities, and educators to support them in delivering our EPIC curriculum to their students through our Certificate in Youth Entrepreneurship

Education. By working toward stronger entrepreneurship education ecosystems, stakeholders help improve the resiliency, critical thinking skills, growth mentality, and social-emotional learning of their young people.

The Lincoln School Implements a Full Entrepreneurship Ecosystem

In 2024, the Youth Impact Lab graduated the final cohort of educators and staff at the Lincoln School in the Certificate in Youth Entrepreneurship Education. All educators and staff are now certified, and the school has successfully embedded entrepreneurship at every level, including evaluations and assessments.

“Working collaboratively with Babson’s Youth Impact Lab has helped us develop an entrepreneurship ecosystem at Lincoln School in Costa Rica. This has empowered us to cultivate innovative, socially responsible leaders throughout the school, from students and teachers to staff, school leaders, and parents. Our vision is to create a community of entrepreneurial changemakers at every touchpoint throughout the school.”

Sara Estrada Bernal Innovation and Entrepreneurship Director Lincoln School, Costa Rica

Educators at Seven Schools in Saudi Arabia Gain Inspiration and Certification

In collaboration with the Babson Global Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership (BGCEL) located within Prince Mohammed Bin Salman College (MBSC), the Youth Impact Lab completed a Certificate in Youth Entrepreneurship Education training for educators at seven schools in Saudi Arabia. This is the second time we’ve supported BGCEL in facilitating educator training and licensing the EPIC curriculum to schools in Saudi Arabia.

After the training, Dar Jana International School and Andalus International School licensed the EPIC curriculum, and 86 students received certificates from Babson after completing EPIC at their school.

“I was not interested in anything related to business, as I did not understand what a business or being an entrepreneur is, and I did not really care about understanding. However, after completing this course, I find myself excited about all the things I learned and excited about sharing this knowledge. The EPIC program transformed my understanding of entrepreneurship, developed some of my teaching skills, and made me believe that I, too, can be an entrepreneur.”

Bringing Entrepreneurial Thinking to the Anjuman Orphanage School in India

Beth Goldstein, senior director of academic strategy at the Youth Impact Lab, visited the Anjuman Orphanage School to run a twoday entrepreneurship program, thanks to a generous donation from a Babson alumnus, Iqbal Mecca ’91, his two brothers, and their family’s Farida Foundation. Goldstein shared new ways of teaching and thinking with educators and their students, the latter of whom are members of the Muslim community in India.

Goldstein worked with 40 students, ages 14–18, and 20 educators. While students were shy at first, they warmed up when asked to develop a solution to a societal challenge. “They went from saying absolutely nothing to being as engaged as our Babson students,” Goldstein noted. Educators witnessed their students gain confidence, talking and presenting in class. Shahnaz Gulrez, the convenor at the institution, said the program “made us understand the true meaning and value of seeing ourselves as entrepreneurial changemakers.”

Empowering Students to Be Changemakers in Everett Public Schools

The Youth Impact Lab brought its Youth Entrepreneurship in Action program to Everett youth, ages 14–19, for a halfday workshop. Students learned how to think and act like entrepreneurs and to develop a solution to a local problem in groups. This will help them navigate a world filled with uncertainty. It supports them in seeing themselves as entrepreneurs equipped with the skills, knowledge, and agency to be changemakers.

Babson alumnus and Director of Youth Development and Enrichment for the City of Everett John Russolillo (’17) helped bring this project to fruition.

“The City of Everett Youth Development and Enrichment Department is ecstatic to be able to provide this opportunity for our youth and young professionals in collaboration with Babson Academy Youth Impact Lab. As a Babson Alumni, I recognize the importance of being exposed to entrepreneurial principles at a young age not only to learn how to start a business, but to expand your mind to be an adaptive and progressive member of society as well.”

John Russolillo (’17) Director of Youth Development and Enrichment City of Everett

Babson Summer Study for High School Students Around the Globe

This year’s Babson Summer Study for High School Students program welcomed 168 students from 28 countries to learn from expert Babson faculty at the #2 college in the U.S. and the #1 institution for entrepreneurship. Students earned 4 college credits as they learned important entrepreneurial skills and applied the award-winning Entrepreneurial Thought & Action® method of seeing opportunity where others see obstacles. All students developed an entrepreneurial social impact project, with the guidance of faculty and academic mentors.

Connecting 168 students

“One of the most important components of the program was the opportunity to meet Babson’s teachers and successful entrepreneurs. Their mentoring and insights into real-world business difficulties were helpful, giving me a deep understanding of what it takes to start and manage an effective company. . . . The Babson Summer Study was an experience that not only taught me essential entrepreneurial skills but also reinforced my passion to make a meaningful impact through business.”

Partnering with Samsung Solve for Tomorrow

Four student participants in the 14th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition—which encourages public school students to use STEM skills to address pressing local issues and drive positive change in their communities—were specially selected by their teachers to participate in the Babson Summer Study for High School

Students program. Students were selected for their interest in social impact entrepreneurship.

During the Babson Summer Study for High School Students program, the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow students developed “SelfShelf,” a software program to address U.S. restaurant

food waste, which significantly contributes to landfill waste and emissions. SelfShelf simplifies restaurant inventory management through easy tracking, sending notifications for expiration dates, low stock, and wholesaler deals, aiming to reduce waste and improve food safety.

“Babson College and Samsung Solve for Tomorrow share a commitment to nurturing the next generation of entrepreneurial leaders and preparing them for the future of work. In partnering together for this Summer Study program, Babson has helped our Solve for Tomorrow students leverage entrepreneurship to bridge a critical gap between applying their STEM skills to create solutions for community issues and ensuring that those solutions are sustainable and will have a lasting impact.”

IMPACT

Driving Positive Change Through Entrepreneurship

Reaching Educators at Every Level in Puerto Rico

We delivered three Symposia for Entrepreneurial Academic Leadership in Puerto Rico to a total of 186 university faculty and K-12 teachers and administrators. The curriculum was designed to foster entrepreneurial growth and economic development on institutional, regional, and national levels by preparing educators to teach with an entrepreneurial mindset.

The project was sponsored by the Puerto Rico Department of Education in collaboration with Albizu University. We were thrilled to be connected with Albizu University by Babson alumni Teresita Bolivar ’84, Albizu University Board Chair, and Annette Montoto ’89, Albizu University Board Member. This project was an expansion of our multiyear collaboration with Banco Popular and their Puerto Rico Echar Pa’lante initiative and combined foundational SEE components with the expertise of our Youth Impact Lab.

Lasting Impact in Romania’s Entrepreneurship Education Ecosystem

Our collaboration with the Romanian-American Foundation (RAF) continues to make significant strides in fostering entrepreneurship in Romania. After three years of successful SEE and SEED programs that reached over 250 faculty and senior administrators, participants are now helping develop entrepreneurship education ecosystems and establish entrepreneurship centers.

In November, we hosted a cohort of 16 Romanian university leaders who are running nascent entrepreneurship centers or planning to build one. Over 10 days, participants engaged in hands-on learning by visiting entrepreneurship centers in Boston and Cambridge, experiencing the Babson ecosystem, and attending the Global Consortium of Entrepreneurship Centers (GCEC) conference. Babson Academy’s three-day custom program covered needed skills to launch and grow successful centers like leadership, program development, resource acquisition, student engagement, success metrics, and more. Babson’s expertise guided the leaders in developing action plans tailored to their universities’ needs. Through this collaboration, RAF is helping shape the future of entrepreneurship education in Romania.

“Very well-structured program, with useful information for educators and entrepreneurs. I appreciated the emphasis on hands-on projects and real-world experiences. Also the opportunities for international perspective and networking. A very good connection with the team, and the engagement and continuous feedback of the trainers.”

Developing Entrepreneurial Mindsets, Ideas, and Opportunities

Impact is measured by lives touched, and Babson Academy’s reach continues to delight and surprise me. Entrepreneurship education is a global phenomenon that is changing the world one student, one educator, one collaboration, and one program at a time. I’m grateful to be a part of the Babson Academy team and its impact equation.

I’m happy to announce another great piece of thought leadership coming from members of the Babson Collaborative for Entrepreneurship Education in early 2025. Over the past 1.5 years, 48 contributors from 14 different countries have been working on a new book, Developing Entrepreneurial Mindsets, Ideas, and Opportunities: A Guide for Educators (Edward Elgar Publishing). Content related to developing an entrepreneurial mindset, creating and identifying new-to-the-world ideas, and determining which ideas are exploitable high-value opportunities are at the core of this body of work.

As a result, the book categorizes 35 teaching exercises according to one of three parts: 1) entrepreneurial mindsets, 2) idea generation, and 3) opportunity evaluation. The book will be officially released at the USASBE conference in February 2025, and we will celebrate its publication at the annual Babson Collaborative Summit in Paris in April 2025. J’ai hâte que tout le monde voie le livre!

Whether you are an advocate, ally, participant, leader, creator, or educator, thank you for reading this year’s report. You are part of our impact.
