ELEVATING BABSON’S FUTURE

CENTENNIAL CAMPAIGN PROGRESS REPORT

GOALS EXCEEDED, IMPACT DELIVERED

In 2019, Babson announced the most ambitious campaign in our history. Originally conceived to honor and celebrate the College’s centennial, a goal of $300 million was set to make a lasting impact on the people, programs, and physical campus of our institution. The objective remained constant throughout—to invest in the College’s vision for the future, and to create positive impact across our campus and community.

Thanks to the commitment and generosity of alumni and friends like you, we surpassed our initial $300 million goal and went on to achieve a milestone of $500 million. However, it would be an oversimplification to focus only on the dollar amount. What makes the campaign a success is everything it has enabled—the students who have access to a Babson education regardless of socioeconomic background, the resources available to faculty, the facilities built, the new and expanded academic and co-curricular programs, and more. We can already see this impact throughout campus, and more progress will continue in the years to come.

Your support has sent a powerful message to our community—Babson is a place where meaningful work happens, and a place with a future worth investing in. Thank you for your generosity, and for setting us on a road to greatness in the College’s second century.

THE POWER OF THE BABSON COMMUNITY

Since I arrived at Babson as President in 2019, it has been inspiring to see the dedication and enthusiasm of our alumni and supporters—and the tremendous progress they have made possible.

The Centennial Campaign has both strengthened Babson’s financial position and allowed us to invest in new opportunities. Our vision is to go beyond simply maintaining our rankings as the No. 1 college for entrepreneurship and the No. 10 best college overall in the U.S. The challenges of today’s world require new levels of entrepreneurial leadership, and the College is in an ideal position to lead that growing field. Especially when we look at the Arthur M. Blank School for Entrepreneurial Leadership, and the centers and institutes within it that have been strengthened by the campaign, we are ready for new levels of global impact.

It is no secret that this has been an uncertain time in higher education, so it is particularly meaningful that our College is not only financially stable, but stronger than ever. None of this would be possible without the Babson community—our dynamic faculty, staff, learners, and alumni who elevate the College and its brand to new heights every day, and the generous donors who helped the Centennial Campaign succeed.

As we look ahead to future growth, I look forward to seeing everything this community continues to achieve.

The work of the Tariq Farid Franchise Institute combines both my entrepreneurial pursuit and my duty to continue the family business. INVESTING IN FACULTY

It would not be possible for Babson to innovate or offer a dynamic educational experience without retaining a talented faculty. Campaign donors have created 19 new chair positions, both endowed and term, to invest in their respective fields of study and ensure that they have the resources to thrive.

• Offering both financial resources and increased flexibility with teaching load reductions.

• Supporting groundbreaking research.

• Allowing educators more time to dedicate to the classes they do teach – providing learners with the mentorship, knowledge, and skills they need for successful, impactful careers.

“The appointment to term chair means a great deal to me on several fronts. First, this term chair helps me to develop scholarship in the area of innovation management that helps Babson to lead in this critical area for managers. Second, it is wonderful to hold a named chair that acknowledges the commitment alumni have shown for our continued growth and success. And third, the named chair reflects how alumni who have been involved in such innovative efforts support faculty research that can translate to further insights for managers.”

“As an academic, you often worry if what you are doing is making a difference or impact. When someone invests in you through a term chair, it signals that they believe in you and your research. That kind of support and encouragement is truly unbelievable. I am extremely grateful.”

6 BABSON COLLEGE

“Your support has helped me promote Babson’s name around the globe to important industry and academic decision-makers, and helped me connect with alumni and future Babson students. I cannot tell you how helpful the flexibility and research support have been in making all of this happen.”

OF FINANCE,

“I have completed another fulfilling and impactful year as an academic, writer, activist, and entrepreneur—and my ability to wear such an array of hats is due in large part to your support.”

Elizabeth Swanson

PROFESSOR OF ARTS AND HUMANITIES, JOYCE H’22 AND ANDY MANDELL ’61 ENDOWED PROFESSOR

“I am most grateful for Mr. DiCamillo’s commitment to what is Babson’s hallmark: the impact people like me can have on learning—learning for current students, learning for the community at large, learning for those who already may have graduated but must continue to learn, and learning for generations to come. Furthermore, learning that is not just theoretical but practical and relevant today as well as for a very uncertain world of tomorrow.”

Anirudh Dhebar

PROFESSOR OF MARKETING, GARY DICAMILLO TERM CHAIR

“This award is an honor, not merely because of the financial benefits that accompany it. Rather, the award acknowledges that my mission as an educator can thrive, as I reach into communities both within the USA and worldwide on my goal to seek a better future for those who may not otherwise have the resources to attain their potential.”

Victoria L. Crittenden

PROFESSOR OF MARKETING, PETER M. BLACK ENDOWED FACULTY SCHOLAR

ELEVATING OUR MISSION

THE ARTHUR M. BLANK SCHOOL FOR ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP

In 2019, Arthur M. Blank ’63, H’98 and the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation made a grant that will continue to elevate entrepreneurship education for decades to come. With the creation of AMBSEL, Babson is positioning itself to become the global leader in entrepreneurial leadership—training and empowering learners to address the challenges of our time and create positive impact worldwide.

“I think the more we invest, the more opportunities we create for these young folks to really be creative in either starting their own businesses, investing in their businesses, investing in social work, investing in starting nonprofits, whatever it may be. These minds will make a difference in the world going forward. To have an opportunity to give young folks a chance to do that is unique and special.”

10 BABSON COLLEGE

Six award-winning centers and institutes at Babson are now incorporated within AMBSEL to facilitate broader access to their resources and activities. Some are new, while others have grown and evolved during the campaign—all thanks to contributed support.

• We have expanded the Women Innovating Now (WIN) Lab™, a first-of-its-kind venture accelerator program for women entrepreneurs to launch successful businesses and create economic and social impact. INVESTING IN BABSON’S SUCCESS

As we celebrate everything the Centennial Campaign has made possible, the impact on Babson’s operating budget cannot be understated.

Support for general operations has elevated every aspect of the College, from student and faculty experience to the behind-the-scenes management that keeps our facilities and programs running effectively. It has been especially meaningful when the Covid-19 pandemic and enrollment challenges have strained many college and university budgets in recent years, forcing spending cuts and difficult decisions about their futures.

Today, Babson is fortunate to be in a position where we can invest in the College—elevating our global impact and generating a strong return on investment for students and alumni.
