The Power of Selling in Entrepreneurship: A Youngster’s Journey
Professor Vincent Onyemah, Marketing Division
Selling is at the core of entrepreneurship because every successful venture consists of creating, communicating, delivering, and capturing value. The journey of an entrepreneur is filled with many yes’s and many no’s, but if you can turn more no’s into yes’s, you’ll make more dreams come true. Selling is a life skill and entrepreneurSHIP needs sales to sail.
The Reddit Rebellion, Gamestop,
and the Importance of Fundamentals
Professor Kathleen Hevert, Finance Division
Many of us witnessed the improbable rise and spectacular decline in the price of Gamestop shares in early 2021. You may have heard about the “Reddit Rebellion” and “short squeeze” at play in the dramatic price movements. In this session, we will explore how the intrinsic or “true” value of stocks
can be estimated using discounted cash flow analysis. We also will talk about the trading options that accompanied the stock price volatility, as well as what makes options so unique. Who were the winners and losers in this saga? What can the Gamestop drama teach us about the importance of fundamental analysis?

Dario Guerrero ’21 Why I Chose Babson My path to Babson was quite funny. I actually applied to be an engineering major everywhere else and last minute decided to apply to Babson. What made me choose Babson in the end was ultimately because Babson chose me and made it evident that they wanted me there as much as I wanted to be there.
My Most Memorable Lesson I’ve learned so much in my time at Babson in and out of the classroom. But if I had to pick the most important thing I’ve learned so far, it would be the idea that failure is OK. The idea of failing was something so uncommon for me in high school. After being at Babson and being challenged, I’ve learned one of the most important life lessons: acknowledging that failure makes you normal and an even stronger person.
How Babson Activities Influence My Pursuits and Career Plans Being around a lot of diverse people on a day-to-day basis and working in some of the environments I’ve worked in at Babson made me truly become a student of the world. Inspired by my studies abroad, I’ve looked into concentrating in global business management. I hope with whatever I end up doing, I can change the world in some way, and in order to change the world you need to see it.
8 LAUNCH BABSON Class of 2025 Virtual Admitted Student Day
Alicia Gaudet ’22 Why I Chose Babson I chose Babson because I recognized how they offered their students endless possibilities and opportunities. I also noticed how unique Babson is in the way they choose to structure themselves. They give you entrepreneurial skills and a foundation in every aspect of business to prepare you in whatever industry you end up going into. Additionally, the strong, global network/community that Babson offers while you are a student and alumni was something that I could not pass up.
How Have Student Organizations and Activities Impacted My Babson Experience Here at Babson I am a first-year resident assistant, tour guide, and part of the women’s rugby team. Joining rugby was probably the best decision I have made here at Babson so far. I have met such a diverse, inspiring, and supportive group of women who I now call my best friends. Additionally, being an RA and part of the Admissions office has given me an opportunity to tell my story about why I love Babson, as well as enhancing my personal leadership and communication skills.
How Babson Activities Influence My Pursuits and Career Plans The activities that I take part in out of the classroom are the reason why my experience here at Babson is so complete. The academics here are absolutely incredible, but through the extracurricular opportunities we have here, they give you a vast amount of opportunities to meet people with similar interests, improve your professional skills, and focus on your own personal goals.

Michael Agard ’24 Who inspires you? My parents. They are small business owners, and I saw them go through the process of creating a business and sustaining one. It was really inspirational to me that they could do something like that. And, to see them run a business and take care of me and my brother, that’s pretty amazing to me.
How did you choose Babson? I did an internship at Mercedes Benz Stadium, which is owned by Arthur Blank. I got to see the kind of business that he ran, and how people admired him, and I wanted to learn more. Once I realized he’s a Babson graduate, I started thinking that this might be the school for me. And, when I took part in Access Babson—an overnight experience on campus with other students—I was able to see firsthand what the experience was like, and from there, I could definitely see myself going to this school.
What are your hopes for your Babson career? Be as successful as I can be here, and make the most of it. There’s some great people and great professors here, so I hope to do my best to reach out to people, to understand the world more, and get as much knowledge as I can to better myself. I’m really interested in experiencing how to actually create a business and sustain one and lead a team.
10 LAUNCH BABSON Class of 2025 Virtual Admitted Student Day
Noelia Chacon ’23 Why I Chose Babson I chose Babson because I wanted a small school with big school resources. I wanted to be at a school where I could leave an imprint and be actively involved and Babson supports you and gives you all the resources to do so.
My Most Memorable Lesson Something I have taken away with me is Entrepreneurial Thought & Action. This is a mindset that can be applied to any part of your life. I think of a vision and apply predictive logic or creative logic and apply it to my situation. That is something that I will take away with me forever.
How Babson Activities Influence My Pursuits and Career Plans Since I am in a professional fraternity I am always thinking about my career path and connecting with people who are older to guide me in their footsteps. I am also able to hear from a wide range of perspectives to learn about other industries and it is nice to have a community of people to give you advice.

How It Works Throughout the year, two dedicated faculty members—industry professionals—teach you the ins and outs of entrepreneurship, marketing, organizational behavior, and operations, while emphasizing the integrated role these functions have in an organization. Classes of up to 40 students break into teams to use the concepts and tools of Entrepreneurial Thought & Action®, the method of turning ideas into action, to explore a creative opportunity that solves a problem and creates value. Once you determine your idea is feasible, you’ll create a launch plan and must qualify for a loan of up to $3,000 from the College as startup money for your business.

of profits are donated to the team’s service organization.
Since 1999, FME businesses have donated more than $538,000 to local service organizations.

MINI FAIR FRIDAYS A social venture that brings local businesses and startups to campus to share their products with the Babson community and expose students to new shopping experiences.
SCRIBBLE SURFACE A wet erase sticker that is placed on the exterior of your laptop to serve as a miniwhite board.
START-UP! A card game based on the concept of entrepreneurship and assessing risk.
“ FME is one of the things that truly separates the Babson learning experience from the rest. Most schools rely on textbooks and case studies, while the FME experience puts theory into practice, exposing you to many aspects of business you can’t learn in a classroom such as team dynamics and real-time decision making. When it comes to entrepreneurship, there is nothing more valuable than real world experience and FME delivers Babson students with exactly that.” – Dave Heath ’05, Co-Founder and CEO, Bombas
Forming Partnerships Teams establish a partnership with a local social services agency, emphasizing the importance of corporate social responsibility. Collectively, each team donates 80 hours of community service, plus profits from their business, to that organization. Students have supported a variety of organizations, including Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, Cradles to Crayons, Boys and Girls Club, and the Greater Boston Food Bank. And, since 1999, FME businesses have donated more than $538,000 to local charities. The only question is: How much will your team contribute?
What You’ll Gain The experience is more than just learning how to launch a startup. It’s about exploring career options. It’s about identifying and creating opportunities, understanding your goals, developing the mindset of an entrepreneurial leader, managing team dynamics, and communicating effectively. Above all, it’s about turning ideas into action. These skills are essential to your personal and professional development, and you’ll constantly use them throughout your four years—and throughout your future career.

ALLYSON KUMMINS ’21: “My favorite spot on campus is Babson Hall. Most students look at Babson Hall* as just a generic classroom building and though I’ve enjoyed my classes here, my best memories are with my improv troupe Students Against Gravity. I’ve had countless laughs and great times with some of the funniest people at Babson.”

ADAM KERSHNER ’19: “The Park Manor Quad* is surrounded by the first-year residence halls—the newest, nicest housing on campus—and is full of life, filled with students playing Frisbee, listening to music, and doing homework.”

JACKIE WACHSBERG ’19: “The focus at Babson is on business, but having access to the Sorensen Center for the Arts* and the various arts clubs on campus gives you a great outlet to express your creativity.”
ALYSSA HARRIS ’20: “I’m so happy that I get to enjoy BRAC*, which is Babson’s new gym. The first time I walked in my jaw dropped because this gym is so nice, and I’m really excited to use the space to continue working on my fitness goals. BRAC has a variety of equipment, classes, and plenty of space to use— it’s awesome!”
TAYLOR MILLIKEN ’22: “My favorite spot on campus is the Babson Commons, connected to Horn Library, because it’s a beautiful place to hang out with friends in an indoor space with trees, get coffee, or study!”
