PERSISTENT / MA PORTFOLIO
Persistent learning is my visionary direction in design. When I was very young, my mom told me that it is honorable for people to persist in doing one single thing throughout their entire lives. I have found this to be true. It fills me with happiness to persist in doing what I like. In this way I am becoming more and more of an expert at honing my graphic skills.

Project Overview / Designing a 64 page book to create a system with clear hierarchy on the topic of Virtual Reality (VR) is the aim of this project. There are three chapters in this book which focus on the development of VR, including its future growth.
Design Approach / The key to my success has been that I stepped outside of my typographic “comfort zone,” and tried new fonts and layouts to express my concept about VR. The sheer volume of this book shows the extensive research, conceptually innovative thinking, and project management I used to expand my knowledge of VR.

/Title The Future of Education
/Class Type Systems
Project Overview / Designing a chapbook about effective approaches in education is the aim of this project. The 16 page book includes the topic of hybrid-flipped classrooms, independent and project-based learning, and global eLearning.
Design Approach / My chapbook is about the future of education. I combined illustrations by my favorite illustrator, Bryan Mathers, with my designs. I used fonts Whitney and Archer to present a future where students will be learning outside the classroom and where assessment will be based on their performance in the field. I chose a red tone because it’s the color of apples which symbolizes positive feelings about the future of education.

/Title More Than One— Beating Diabetes Together
/Class Visual Thinking
Project Overview / The aim of this project is to inform close family members about loved ones who are living with diabetes. I created a system of deliverables such as an app, cooking classes, and a travel case for diabetics. I hope that diabetics and their family members will have more chances to learn how to beat diabetes together.
Design Approach / This project proposes a health care topic and identifies the relevant audience and stakeholders. I have found engaging and relevant solutions to diabetes management and have implemented compelling visual elements in a variety of media that work together as a cohesive informational system.

COPING WITH DEPRESSION

HOPEING/
/Title Coping with Depression
/Class Type Composition
Project Overview / I have chosen a cause, coping with depression, and have created a magazine called Lighten with a booklet insert, plus a speaking event to draw attention to this cause. I chose this topic because there are a lot of people who are depressed and they often try to commit suicide. My deliverables provide support for those in need.
/Instructor Andrew Loesel
/Deliverables 01_Magazine
Design Approach / My magazine and booklet design draw attention to the disease of depression and help depressed people gain optimism in their lives. I used warm colors and the geometric typeface Avenir because they have a positive and relaxed feeling. I provide stories from celebrities with depression to show people pathways for surviving depression. I want to communicate strength and hope to my audience and give them courage.

/Title Ms. Young Florist
/Class Digital Design
Project Overview / I have designed an app for a florist in San Francisco to sell their flowers. This app named after company, Ms. Young, offers customers beautiful customized bouquets to add elegance to their lives. Customers can choose any kind of flower and combine them with different wraps and packaging styles. The app also provides live videos about flower arranging. Design Approach / I designed this app because there was no app to create custom bouquets when I wanted to order them for my friends. This app helps people easily order same-day-delivery customized bouquets. They have a wide variety of flowers to select from, they can choose the style of bouquet they want, plus they can choose how they want the flowers wrapped. I used the colors pink and green, and the geometric typeface Verlag to give customers a fresh joyful feeling while they are using the app.

To mom and dad, thank you for supporting and encouraging me to pursue my dreams. Words cannot describe how grateful I am for your love. I need to make mistakes and have failures to grow, so thanks for being there when I’m down, and for helping me find my way back up. Thank you for loving me in all the ways that you do.
