INSIDE LOOK:
(On Right) Cover mom Hallie Meyers-Shyer shares her own parenting journey (including who was in the delivery room with her!) in our cover story. (Below) The LA mom’s new movie, Goodrich, debuts October 18, only in theaters.
Over a decade ago, I started Mini to fill a gap in the market— a hole that was left after the shuttering of one of my favorite parenting print magazines. It started as a passion project before transforming into this full-fledged digital magazine that millions of people read (thank you!).
As a creative myself, I am endlessly inspired by other creatives tending to their own passion projects, especially when you throw parenting into the mix. That’s exactly why I knew filmmaker (and mom to 3-yearold Julien) Hallie Meyers-Shyer would be perfect for this fall
issue. The Goodrich director releases her second film this month— a heart-tugging project she produced when her son was just two years old. Inside our cover story, she shares how she balanced long days on set with a toddler, family dynamics, and a sweet lesson she learned from her iconic movie-making mom, Nancy Meyers.
So here we go, Mini friends! I hope these next 100 pages inspire, uplift, and urge you to follow your passion too.

PUT
THE BOARD IT ON
Fewer surprises, fewer meltdowns, and more smiles? Charmspring makes it happen with the introduction of the Springboard, a visual schedule with customizable tiles to fit your family’s routine.
JJENNIE MONNESS KNOWS a thing or two about child development. The co-founder of Union Square Play—a parenting community and playspace with locations in New York City and New Jersey—and a former early childhood teacher, Monness has spent decades educating and empowering parents all over the world. Now, with her latest venture, Charmspring, the mom of two joins business partner Steph Korey Goodwin (the co-founder of travel brand, Away) to introduce a new tool for families— the Springboard. This customizable, visual schedule aims to help families create a smoother daily routine by offering tiles that represent tasks and activities like eating dinner and field trips, making everyday transitions easier for kids and parents alike.
“We’re moms to four kids six and under
and were in search of a product to help them make sense of their day and understand their routine,” Monness tells Mini. “We realized that when our kids knew what to expect, they experienced the joy of looking forward and anticipating, instead of feeling blindsided and resistant. When we couldn’t find anything, we created DIY versions out of construction paper, crayons, and photos. We soon realized other parents were in search of a similar product, and partnered to create Charmspring!” The dynamic duo worked with developmental psychologists to create products that will ultimately help young children navigate their world with confidence, support their development, and strengthen the parent-
child relationship through shared, predictable interactions.
ON USING CHARMSPRING
“Introducing and setting up the Springboard should be a collaborative process. We always suggest parents invite their child to set up the board with them and talk about the tiles that are being added. It’s empowering for children to take ownership of their days and routines so we encourage parents to identify moments in the day when their child can choose what happens in the routine when appropriate: ‘We’re going to build your bedtime routine now. Would you like to put on pajamas or brush teeth first?’ We recommend placing the Springboard in a room that feels like your child’s domain— most likely in their bedroom, or maybe a playroom. The exact location of the board depends on your child’s age. If you have a kindergartner, we’d suggest placing it at their eye level so they can access the board independently. I intro-
duced my girls to the Springboard by unboxing it with them and showing how each board already had their name on it which got them excited to build their own. We sorted the activity tiles into categories—morning, night, school days, weekends—and created their schedules together. The best part is the conversations that happen while using it. Including them from the start made the Springboard feel like a source of accomplishment and connection. Now, they either use it proudly on their own or look forward to spending time with me.”
ON AVOIDING MELTDOWNS “When children are aware of what to expect throughout their day, transitions become smoother and they tend to resist less. By removing the surprise factor, like suddenly announcing, ‘Time for bath!,’ they’re less likely to have meltdowns because they feel more prepared for what’s coming next. Knowing their schedule in advance also gives them time to mentally prepare for transitions, whether it’s heading to the doctor or starting their bedtime routine.”
ON THE PERSONAL BENEFITS “My girls really crave knowing what’s going on in their daily routine and love being involved in it. They thrive when they know what each day holds. The Springboard has not only helped them feel involved in their routine, but it’s also motivated them to start packing for the next day’s activities, which I didn’t expect! The Springboard has also made our morn-
ing and night routines run smoothly. In the morning, they’re more independent about getting ready— whether it’s brushing their teeth or packing their bags. At night, the routine is laid out for them, so there’s no need for nagging or rushing. It creates a calm structure that helps them stay on track and reduces any last minute stress.”
ON STARTING YOUR SPRINGBOARD
“Mini readers should start with the School Age Starter Pack, recommended for children 3-12 years old. This Springboard comes with a weekly schedule that includes all 7 days of the week, activity tiles curated for your child’s age and activity tiles needed for morning and night routines. The Toddler Starter Pack is the best place to start for kids who are 1-2 years old. It makes the tough toddler transitions smoother and more enjoyable as it gives toddlers the structure they need while also helping them feel a sense of independence. Toddlers really crave feeling autonomous, but also need a framework to follow. The Toddler Starter pack helps with this because toddlers can feel part of the process as they make appropriate choices and build out their schedules with you.”
ON WHAT’S NEXT
“We are so excited for all that’s to come. We wanted to launch a product that the whole family can use and enjoy— something that’s educational, practical, and beautiful all at once. For us, it’s all about creating ways to bring more ease and connection into everyday life as a family.”
Using a blush pink grasscloth wallpaper from Rifle Paper Co. as a canvas for the design, the Mini team transforms a previously drab bedroom into a soft and whimsical nursery.
SOFT LANDING
The Wallpaper
“It all started with the blush grasscloth wallpaper,” says Mini’s Editor in Chief Kate Kirby. “The Palette Wallpaper was the first thing we chose and it provides such a sweet and sophisticated backdrop for the nursery.” Palette Wallpaper in Blush, $240; riflepaperco.com
The Art
“We wanted the room to feel like it could grow with the baby for years to come,” says Kirby. “We didn’t want to choose artwork that they would have to change in the toddler years. This petite, watercolor butterfly print was just what we needed.” Candy Butterfly by Jenny Ronen, $307; artfullywalls.com
The Light
“The natural texture of the wallpaper prompted us to bring in more woven elements,” says Kirby. “The flower-shaped storage basket that doubles as a side table and the scalloped rattan light fixture feel like they were meant for this space.” Rattan Bubble Flush Mount, $199; westelm.com; Amelia Adjustable Table Lamp, $99; potterybarnkids.com
The Crib
The modern white Hudson crib by Babyletto brings a playful touch to the otherwise elegant and grown-up space. Paired with a blush muslin throw blanket and knit bunny doll by Cuddle + Kind, the crib grounds the space in childhood charm. Hudson 3-in-1 Convertible Crib, $499; babyletto.com; Crib Sheet in GOTS
Certified Organic Muslin Cotton, $38; babyletto.com; Hannah the Bunny, $95; cuddleandkind.com; Nanobebe Aura Smart Baby Monitor, $299; nanobebe.com
The Chair
“This glider is what dreams are made of,” says Kirby. “Not only is it in the most delicious boucle fabric, but it reclines, rocks, and has a USB port for charging so you never get nap trapped without battery.” Sigi Electronic Recliner and Glider in Ivory Boucle with Light Wood Base, $1,199; babyletto.com; Woven Flower Shaped Lidded Storage, $59; potterybarnkids.com
The Rug
Handmade and loom-knotted, this stunning rug by Annie Selke has an ombre effect and soft, nubby pile that creates a warm and calm, yet fun foundation for the room. Pandora Pink Hand Loom Knotted Rug, $1,088; annieselke.com
The Shade
Adding more natural, textural vibes to the space is the linen cotton Roman shade by Everhem. “Everhem makes the most amazing shades I’ve ever seen,” says Kirby. “They make the process so easy to order, they’re available to make sure you get the fit just right, and the install couldn’t be more simple. I love how this shade elevates the nursery and maybe one of the best parts, there’s no cord to hide from baby!” Custom Linen Cotton Roman Shade in Bone; everhem.com
IMAGINE THAT
From cozy canopies to imaginative playhouses, transform fall’s colder days into magical playtime adventures at home. Here are a few tips to help you get creative when the temps take a dip.
AAs the chilly days of fall roll in, finding ways to keep your kids engaged and active indoors can be a challenge. Luckily, with a little creativity and the right play structures, indoor playtime can become just as exciting and imaginative as your usual outdoor adventures. Cassarokids offers a range of beautiful, high-quality play essentials like their Play Canopy and Waldorf Playhouse that can transform your home into a whimsical wonderland. Here’s how to inspire creative play with your kids during the colder months:
CREATE A MAGICAL HIDEAWAY
The Cassarokids Play Canopy can easily transform any room into a whimsical hideaway. Set it up anywhere to create a cozy nook for reading, storytelling, or imaginative play. Add pillows, fairy lights, and a few
favorite toys to encourage kids to transport themselves into a world of their own making.
SET THE STAGE FOR ADVENTURE
The brand’s wooden play stands can be turned into anything your child dreams of— from a grocery store to a pirate ship. Rotate different themes each week to keep things fresh and exciting, allowing kids to invent new stories and activities with each play session.
ENCOURAGE FREE PLAY
Cassarokids’ playhouses offer plenty of opportunities for unstructured, childled play. Kids can let their imaginations run wild, whether it’s hosting a tea party, building a fort, or pretending they’re exploring a magical forest.
MAKE IT A FAMILY AFFAIR
Get the whole family involved! Set up a pretend store or café where everyone has a role. Not only will this provide hours of fun, but it also fosters cooperation and teamwork.
ROTATE TOYS AND THEMES
Switch up the toys or activities inside the play canopy or playhouse every few weeks. Introduce new challenges or themes, like “space explorers” or “jungle adventurers,” to keep the experience fresh and stimulating.
With a little imagination and play furniture from Cassarokids, indoor play can be just as enriching and fun as outdoor activities this fall.
BE THE VILLAGE
Pediatric nurses and co-founders of Moms on Call Jennifer Walker and Laura Hunter share their expert insights on how to support a postpartum friend, including the things they want but won’t ask for.
AA BREAK TO SLEEP They may not ask, but uninterrupted sleep is a game-changer. Offer to come over and watch the baby while they take a nap. A simple, ‘I can take over for a couple of hours—go rest,’ will be exactly what they need but won’t ask for. This also lets them know they don’t need to feel guilty for asking.
MEALS THEY DON’T HAVE TO COOK Readymade meals are always appreciated. Instead of asking, just say, ‘I’m dropping off a meal for you tonight.’ Something that’s already prepared or easy to heat, like soup, a casserole, or pre-cut fruit and veggies, takes the pressure off having to plan meals.
HOUSEHOLD HELP Don’t ask, “Do you need anything?” Instead, jump in and offer to do laundry,
sweep, or handle dishes. A simple, ‘I’ll tidy up the kitchen’ or ‘I’ll fold that load of laundry while I’m here,’ will go a long way. Most new parents won’t ask for help around the house, but they’ll definitely appreciate it.
A CHANCE TO SHOWER OR HAVE SOME ALONE TIME Offer to hold the baby so they can shower or have 30 minutes to themselves. ‘I can come by and watch the baby while you take a long shower or relax for a bit,’ will feel like a luxury they didn’t realize they needed.
LOW-KEY, NO-PRESSURE COMPANY Sometimes they just need someone to be there without expecting anything. Offer to sit on the couch with them, chat, or simply be a calming presence. ‘I’ll come over, and we can hang out, no need to entertain,’ makes it clear that you’re there for whatever they need, even if it’s just quiet company.

Be clear about when you can help, so they don’t feel like they’re imposing. Say, “I’m free on Wednesday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to either hold the baby while you nap, run errands, or help with laundry—whatever you need.” Giving specific days and times makes it easier for them to accept help without the pressure of having to schedule it themselves.

HAPPY GUT HAPPY KIDS
Begin Health is here to tackle your fiber problem with kid-friendly prebiotics (including a unique ingredient found in breast milk!) that make bathroom trips a breeze.
DDID YOU KNOW that 95% of children don’t get enough fiber in their diets? It’s no wonder so many kids struggle with constipation— in fact, up to 30% of school-aged children face chronic digestive issues and 64% have bathroom anxiety. But gut discomfort doesn’t just cause tummy aches. It can also impact digestion, immunity, and even mental health, leading to frustration for both kids and parents.
Begin Health—a baby, toddler, and kids’ microbiome company—is on a mission to change that. Their science-backed nutrition solutions focus on nourishing the gut microbiome which is essential for healthy digestion. At the heart of their approach? Growing Up Prebiotics, a pediatrician-approved supplement that addresses the
root cause of painful poops by feeding the beneficial bacteria in your child’s gut. It’s all made possible with the brand’s key ingredient— the Human Milk Oligosaccharide (HMO)—a prebiotic found in breast
milk that nourishes the good gut bugs (bifidobacteria) and supports healthy, growing Minis.
Unlike laxatives that offer short-term relief, Begin Health’s prebiotics help naturally regulate bowel movements with no harsh ingredients. The tasteless, textureless powder easily mixes into water, food, or
drinks, making it perfect for even the pickiest eaters. Each serving provides 3g of fiber, bridging the fiber gap to support softer, more regular bowel movements.
Begin Health uses minimal, clean ingredients with no added sugars or preservatives, making it a trusted choice for parents and pediatricians alike.

has filmmaking in her blood. The daughter of renowned directors Nancy Meyers and Charles Shyer (Father of the Bride, The Parent Trap), she now steps into the spotlight once more with this month’s debut of her second feature film, Goodrich, starring Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis. While the LAbased mom (to 3-yearold son Julien) is no stranger to the family business, she recalls how challenging it was to spend so much time away from her son while filming Goodrich. “Shooting hours on a set are the exact same as my toddler’s hours—7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—so I went long stretches without being able to see him,” she says. “I bought him a lot of books that helped him digest the idea of having me home less for a certain period of
time, calendars where we could cross off the days, and he came to visit me on set which was so special. But that was short lived because he couldn’t keep quiet while we were rolling!” We sat down with the filmmaker for our fall cover story to talk balancing the demands of her busy career with motherhood, the inspiration behind Goodrich, the relatable parenting experiences amongst the characters, and how her own personal motherhood journey has evolved over time.
Thank you so much for having me! Every morning I usually wake up before my son to get a few emails out. He’s a good sleeper. He gets it from his dad; I don’t sleep. Then I get him up, change him into his school clothes, make him eggs with avocado toast per his request, and drive him to school. We listen to music and genuinely laugh the whole way to school. Right now, things are a little different with the movie coming out, but I have a great support system and feel really lucky that our family is in our city and can help out.
Balancing the demands of filmmaking with motherhood can’t be easy. How do you manage your time with career and family life?
We’re thrilled to have you on our cover! Let’s dive right into your life as a mom. What does your morning routine look like with your son right now, especially with your new movie Goodrich out this month?
My job is funny because when I’m writing, the balance is so easy. I can take him to school every day and put him down every night and still feel really disciplined during the day and sometimes write after he goes to bed. But other parts of the process take me away

from home for super long hours and it can feel disruptive. Creative work can often feel all consuming, so I actually found my experience directing a movie before I had a child and after I had a child incredibly different. I couldn’t let work fully consume me this time, because there is something else in my life that’s always going to matter more. It helps put everything in perspective.
You wrote and directed Goodrich which is a major feat in itself— but you did this while your son was only two years old. What were some of the challenges that came along with that and how did you tackle them?
It was incredibly challenging! Shooting hours on a set are the exact same as my toddler’s hours—7 a.m. to 7 p.m.—so I went long stretches without being able to see him. I had to work a twelve-hour day on his birthday and that was really tough. I beat myself up about that one. But we celebrated over the weekend instead and I did my best to explain to him that this was only for a short while. I bought him a lot of books that helped him digest the idea of having me home less for a certain period of time, calendars where we could cross off the days, and he came to visit me on set which was so special. But that was short lived because he couldn’t keep quiet while we were rolling!
Looking back, what’s something you’re proud of about the way you handled both the role of mother and filmmaker during that time?
I really believe it’s good for our kids to see us working hard, especially if you are lucky enough to love what you do. It’s such a good example set and that’s a good thing to remember. I read a statistic that children with working mothers are more successful in life. I have no idea if this is true, but I choose to believe it is.
How inspiring for your son to see you go after your dreams and achieve such big accomplishments! What values or lessons are most important to you as a mother and how do you hope to instill them in your son?
“ There is something else in my life that’s always going to matter more. ”
Honoring individuality and fostering independence are both really important things to us as parents. It’s incredibly rewarding to recognize and appreciate the specific things that make my son who he is, even at such a young age. I always felt like my parents really wanted to hang out with my sister and I and engage us, and I fully feel that way about my son even at three. He is a great hang. He looked at my husband and I the other day as we were staring adoringly at him and he said, ‘You guys love me.’ I felt proud that he could feel that from a look, but it also means it’s probably time to have another kid… we like him too much, it’s going to his head!
Goodrich has a star-studded cast, including Michael Keaton and Mila Kunis. Can you share what inspired you to write and direct this particular project?
The story is very personal to me because it’s about a father who has a second set of children later in life and how that feels for the first generation of kids. It’s something I really grappled with when it happened to me and I hadn’t seen it on screen before. I was really inspired by ‘80s movies like Kramer vs. Kramer and it got me thinking, ‘What if this situation happened to a guy in his 70s, with his second wife, and he had sort of already done the dad thing and now had to do it again?’ Honestly, I worried that it would be only my experience, but now that people are seeing the film and relating to it so much, I feel really bonded to the audience. There’s something so healing about writing personal stories and I think there’s something healing about seeing them on the big screen too.
I enjoy sharing my personal experiences through my writing— maybe it’s like therapy for me? I don’t know, but I think the old adage ‘write what you know’ is very true. Sometimes it’s fun to work totally outside of what you know, but then I still find myself picking up on funny things in other people’s lives or in the culture and wrapping that into my writing. Inspiration has to come from somewhere.
“ I always felt so showed up for— that’s the biggest lesson [my mom] taught me motherhoodabout and career. ”
Your mother is known for creating iconic family-focused films as well. How has her influence as a parent and filmmaker shaped your own journey as both a mother and a director?
My mom was really able to balance motherhood with her work. She had great success when I was quite young and I always felt like her first priority. I always felt so showed up for— that’s the most important lesson she’s taught me about motherhood and career. And she didn’t even teach it to me, she just showed it to me.
Mila Kunis’ character, Grace, is pregnant with her first baby in the movie. How would you describe your pregnancy with your son?
Both Goodrich and your first film, Home Again, have a strong focus on family dynamics. How have your own family dynamics and relationships influenced your work?
I think drawing from real life makes things feel more specific in a movie. Everyone has a story and family and family dynamics usually play a huge role in our stories.
Each woman has her own experience and relationship towards pregnancy and it’s completely out of our hands whether we have difficult or easy pregnancies. I was so lucky to have an easy one this time. It was mid-pandemic so I never had to get out of my sweats, never had to put on a heel, or go to a wedding, or bachelorette party, or a work event. I just chilled, mostly horizontally, ate, and binge watched LOST. I don’t

think anyone can really prepare you for any of it. It’s a completely wild experience; women are amazing.
Goodrich portrays characters all adjusting to the challenges of parenthood in their own way— some with young children, some with adult children, some expecting their first children. What have you found to be the hardest aspect of parenthood in your own experience?
I find it challenging sometimes to be a parent in a time with so much information at our fingertips, so much social comparison, so much insight into everyone’s lives, everyone’s parenting tips, everyone’s data and parenting styles. It can feel overwhelming. I especially found that as a new mom. But now that my son is three, the biggest
lesson I have learned is to just go with your gut. We have amazing resources, but there also comes a time when you need to realize you know your kid best. The only parenting choices I regret are the times I went against my instinct. Like when I thought he needed to learn to swim at one year old for absolutely no reason other than I saw someone else’s one-year-old swimming.
There is also this element in Goodrich of sacrificing for your family and how different everyone’s perspective can be on that subject. Stepping back from a job to focus on family, or focusing on a job and the effects of that on your family. What are your own thoughts on the concept of ‘having it all?’
Ugh, I think it’s a dangerous phrase, honest-
ly, because it only usually pertains to women! Everyone has a different perception of what having it all means. I think we are all just doing our best.
Goodrich ends in the delivery room— and in a surprising way for Mila Kunis’ character! How would you describe your own birth experience? Was it what you thought it would be or were you surprised?
I tried to have as few plans or expectations as possible going into it. I knew a little bit of what to expect because I was in the delivery room with my sister, but you really have no idea until it happens
to you. I was eight days late and I had my sister and my husband by my side. My sister cut my son’s umbilical cord! Birth is a very trippy experience, all the feels, but when I look back on it, I feel very nostalgic. It’s pretty incredible.
What do you ultimately hope people take away from this movie?
I hope it makes people reflect on their lives and choices as people and parents. And I hope it reminds people what a special and powerful experience it is to laugh and cry in a movie theater with strangers. We used to do it all the time but it’s so rare now. Movies aren’t meant to be watched alone.
OK! You’ve been a parent for three years now, but if you could go back to those early days as a new mom, what advice would you give yourself?
To soak it up more. Enjoy the moments you never get back. I wish I had been less worried about getting it right and just relaxed into it. But I know better than to tell a postpartum mom to relax. Even if it’s me talking to myself.

FEEDING FRENZY
Mother of four and co-founder of fast-growing infant formula company Bobbie , LAURA MODI shares how her postpartum struggle to find a better formula for her own baby led her to create a clean, organic solution for all parents.
FOUNDING SOUGHT-AFTER FORMULA
BRAND BOBBIE “I’m a mom of four and am reminded more than ever why I founded Bobbie— to deliver the absolute highest quality infant formula on the market and to reform an outdated and highly concentrated infant formula industry. I wholeheartedly believe that formula is food. And the truth is, out of necessity or because of choice, the majority of parents turn to formula in the first year of their child’s life. Formula is an essential source of nutrition for so many babies, so why shouldn’t it be the absolute best food, with top quality organic ingredients and suppliers we can offer our infants. In 2018, I was standing in the aisle of a pharmacy with my first baby. I was freshly postpartum, fighting a fever from mastitis, holding my crying baby and found myself desperate for something to feed her. All I could find on pharmacy shelves were formulas filled with corn syrup, fillers, and palm oil. I wouldn’t eat this formula, so how in the world could I possibly be OK feeding it to my newborn baby girl? That’s where it began. I started with one product, our flagship European-inspired formula which is developed with purposefully sourced, USDA organic products made with simple ingredients— manufactured here in America.”
DISRUPTING THE FORMULA INDUSTRY
“Formula is an essential source of nutrition, so why shouldn’t it be the absolute best food? ”
“Our vision for our flagship Organic Formula has always been and continues to be the most trusted, best-in-class product that empowers parents to feed with confidence. Bobbie’s unique recipe is the only USDA Organic and EU Organic Certified formula that meets both EU nutritional standards and FDA requirements. We offer parents seeking a European-style infant formula a safe, regulated option manufactured here in the United States. Bobbie’s organic milk from grass-fed cows is from American farms nationwide, supporting small family farmers. Our expeller-pressed organic fat blend is processed without solvents or hexane, and grown without persistent pesticides (like glyphosate) and our DHA is sourced from microalgae, not fish, as a sustainable option. It’s hard to believe but the U.S. does not require DHA in infant formula and labels aren’t allowed to tell you how much (or how little) is in it. This is why we follow European Nutritional standards and meet the 20mg/serving of DHA in Bobbie. Today, we offer a suite of organic infant formulas, including our first of its kind Organic Gentle formula, and infant supplements that provide parents with choice and access to quality nutrition for their babies.”
TACKLING THE 2020 FORMULA CRISIS “For any parent with a baby during the formula crisis, you know all too well the fear of not being able to find food to feed your baby. I
was heartbroken to see so many parents on the news and in social media, scrambling to try and find formula— truly wondering how in the world could this happen here in the U.S.? The truth is, the industry was ripe for a disaster of this magnitude, yet no one—the industry, regulators—had taken steps to prevent it. The immediate cause was bacterial contamination, but the deeper, more fundamental issue lay in the market structure: a duopoly dominated by two mega pharmaceutical companies. This lack of resiliency and diversification meant that a single recall could—and did—trigger a nationwide depletion of formula. In that moment, we made the decision to close our store to new customers to ensure that our existing subscribers received uninterrupted monthly deliveries for almost 7 months, through the shortage. I’m proud to say we were the only company here in the U.S. whose customers did not face a shortage. We chose reliability over growth and it wasn’t a hard decision to make as a mom. Beyond surviving the shortage itself, I knew my role as a CEO of an infant formula company—and as a mom of four—was to drive change, to fundamentally reshape this industry so that no parent would ever face this kind of crisis again. I needed to build resilience and capacity in the ways I could control at Bobbie, so that should we face another shortage, we would have a resilient internal supply that could feed more babies. We doubled down on this commitment to unparalleled supply chain resilience with the purchase and opening of our own infant formula manufactur-
ing facility. Meanwhile, we’ve worked alongside members of Congress to push for transformative legislation to strengthen the domestic supply chain and ensure American families have access to safe, reliable nutrition. I’m proud to say the bill that we helped draft, the Infant Formula Made in America Act, has been introduced to Congress.”
PROUDEST CAREER MOMENT
“There are so many moments but this summer, something truly amazing took place— the first batch of our Organic Infant Formula came off the line at our manufacturing facility. It’s the first new infant formula manufacturing plant built from the ground up in the U.S. in 23 years, and it’s our answer to create a more resilient industry that’s been dominated by the same few players for decades. I am beyond proud of what we’ve built and how it supports American families. Our new facility means we can feed more babies, bring more manufacturing in-house, and expand our retail footprint so more families can find Bobbie.”
HOW MOM LIFE SHAPES BUSINESS
“We are fiercely committed to securing federal paid family leave, ensuring every parent has the time, support, and dignity they deserve after childbirth. Through our open-source parental leave policy, Bobbie is reimagining what parental support looks like, offering up to 12 months of leave to birthing and non-birthing parents, setting a new standard for companies across industries. We also reimagined our NICU leave for our employees overnight when one of our own employ-

DESTIGMATIZING FORMULA
“We know and the science shows that breastmilk is the gold standard— it is personal and dynamic to every woman and every baby. We also know that not every parent can or wants to breastfeed exclusively for a variety of reasons. All of those are valid. Our job is to ensure that those parents also feel supported, confident, and educated in their feeding choices. No matter how you choose to feed your baby— or even what formula you choose to purchase—it does not define your success as a parent. To be honest, I don’t think we need to destigmatize formula feeding, but rather the judgment on whatever way you choose to feed. The same applies for those who decide that exclusively breastfeeding for many years is for them. Do what is best for you, your family, your situation, and what feels right as a mom. And no matter what path that is, you should never feel judged for it.”
are parents of infants and young children that understand that we need our government to do better. We launched Bobbie for Change to address the societal and cultural issues that matter most to modern parents from pushing for federal paid leave to the maternal mortality crisis to insurance coverage for formula for Mastectomy Moms who receive a free breast pump but no support to pay for formula. We work arm-in-arm with the nonprofits on the ground doing the work like 4Kira4Moms, The Breasties, Paid Leave for All, and Moms First US, and Chamber of Mothers to create change around these critical areas.
“No matter how you choose to feed your baby, it does not define your success as a parent.”
As an employer, Bobbie is doing its best to support parents, but we can’t do it alone. We need to pass paid leave, support affordable childcare, and ensure that women can survive childbirth. These measures, together, will create a societal structure that truly supports modern parenthood.”

“As a pediatric nutrition company, we’ll continue to prioritize both nutrition and social impact as it relates to babies and parenting. Today, we’re the third largest full-stack infant formula manufacturer in the U.S. This is a pivotal moment in our journey as a company, but this is about so much more than one company. Imagine if there were a dozen more Bobbies. We’ll continue to work towards a stronger U.S. formula in-
dustry that incentivizes and empowers new players to enter the market. It’s the right thing to do for American families.”
RAISING ENTREPRENEURIAL KIDS “My children are my everything, and one of the most challenging parts of leading my company is that it often means time away from them. I hope that they see the work I put in as an inspiration to work hard, be resilient, and have the courage to follow their own passions and create positive change.”

of working from home is that my commute from the breakfast nook to my office is fairly quick.”
HARDEST PART OF MOTHERHOOD “Time. There’s never enough of it, and you always think that if you just had a little more time you could be that much better of a mom. With four kids and a growing company, time is just about making the most of the littlest moments you do get. Everything doesn’t have to be in the quest of creating a core memory. It can just be silly and fun and a moment in the day. First two kids I lost some time, third kid I broke even, and the fourth has put me in the negative.”

GO GUT WITH YOUR
Co-founder and Co-CEO of Seed Health , ARA KATZ has always been fascinated by the microbiome, but it was ultimately her pregnancy and breastfeeding journey that led her to start a modern, sciencedriven company that’s shaking up the probiotic industry.
WHAT SPARKED SEED “Though not a scientist, I’ve always had a lifelong fascination with biology, health, and how we care for our bodies. My mom died from pancreatic cancer when I was 16 and ever since, I’ve been obsessed with how science gets translated into the choices and behaviors that shape our well-being. While I had an early fascination with the microbiome, it was really my first pregnancy and meeting my co-founder, Raja, during that time that really inspired Seed. We met at an interesting moment for the field— the rise of wellness culture had propelled consumer enthusiasm for gut health, the microbiome, and probiotics, resulting in a category riddled with misleading messaging, questionable products, and hyperbolic claims. And while the science of probiotics is one of the most exciting and rapidly growing areas of research today, we found most ‘probiotics’ and probiotic products (especially in the U.S.) were not grounded in science at all. Today, we have built a company known for our science, our collaborations with leading scientists in the field and products like our flagship DS-01® Daily Synbiotic and our newly launched vaginal health innovation, VS-01™, that have impacted the health of over one million people.”
“ We found most probiotics were not grounded in science at all.”
Tok and #BloatTok on TikTok), but with the rise in awareness and consumer demand has come an increase in misinformation and it has become even more difficult for consumers to discern what is actually science-based. As a brand, we believe science isn’t finished until it’s communicated. We consider education to be as important as the products we develop. We are always dreaming up new ways to trojan horse science into culture and the channels where people are already consuming content. From our award-winning SeedUniversity influencer program to our learnto-earn drop system, we have developed an anti-marketing strategy that employs unconventional methods to educate (about bacteria, the microbiome, human biology, and health), often using satire, parody, or direct opposition to typical strategies. Acknowledging that the medium is the message, this approach empowers us to view every medium, including advertising, as a canvas for storytelling and platform to provoke discourse. This allows people to actively participate in science (like many did in our award-winning #GiveAShit for Science campaign) and helps bridge the gap between science and real people.”
WHAT SETS SEED APART “In today’s internet climate, social media has destigmatized prevalent issues related to the microbiome and gut health (see movements like #Gut-
GUT HEALTH MISCONCEPTIONS “Most people refer to the microbiome interchangeably with ‘gut health’, but microbes actually co-evolved with us to live in and on various body sites and organ systems—not just the
gut—to perform functions critical to our health. Scientists have identified distinct communities of microorganisms in our mouth, eyes, nose, lungs, bladder, urethra, skin, armpits, ears, and scalp. The penis, testes, vagina, nipple, and even breast milk also harbor their own unique microbiome. And there are likely many more we have yet to uncover. But perhaps the area of greatest misconception is the field of probiotics. Its rise in popularity has ushered in ‘gut mania’ where there’s widespread, obsessive interest with gut-and microbiome-friendly foods, beverages, cosmetics, and other household items. Walk into a grocery store or pharmacy, and in addition to probiotic supplements, you will find ‘probiotic’ tortilla chips, chocolate, home cleaning products, skincare, shampoos, and yes, even pillow cases. One of the biggest controversies within the field is actually whether or not fermented foods and beverages like yogurt, kombucha, and kimchi are probiotics. Scientifically speaking, probiotics are live microorganisms (often bacteria) that have been studied in specific amounts to carry out specific actions for the host (you). This means that a strain (not just a species) of bacteria must demonstrate efficacy in a human clinical study to be scientifically viable as a probiotic. And unlike some clinically studied probiotics (e.g. DS-01®), most
‘probiotic’ food or beverages have not been subjected to controlled studies in humans to demonstrate a health benefit beyond the food or beverage itself. The health benefit must, at least in part, be due to the live microorganisms and must extend beyond any nutritional benefit of the fermented food. For these reasons, the terms ‘fermented food’ and ‘probiotics’ cannot always be used interchangeably.”
HOW SEED IS CHANGING THE WAY PEOPLE THINK ABOUT THEIR OVERALL HEALTH
“ Living in and on us is a community of 76 trillion microorganisms, mostly bacteria.”
“First, we need to understand that living in and on us is a community of 76 trillion microorganisms (mostly bacteria) that make up our microbiome—nearly 50% of our cell count. Once we understand the scale of our microbiome and that microbes are involved in nearly every biological function or organ system of the body, we can re-see ourselves as an interconnected ecosystem, much like a coral reef. Nurture your microbiome, nurture you. When we see the microbiome as a radical new pathway for well-being, we can completely transform our approach to health and empower better choices every day.”
THE SEED VAGINAL SYNBIOTIC “The vaginal microbiome is a critical ecosystem and foundation of gynecological, urogenital, and reproductive health. It shifts regularly and is easily disrupted by everyday factors like sex, menstruation, exercise, swimming, and major life moments like giving birth, leaving the vagina susceptible to imbalanc-
es and unwanted issues. Historically, the importance and nuances of the vaginal microbiome have not been wholly understood and integrated into our approach to vaginal and reproductive health. This oversight has left many urogenital and reproductive conditions inadequately addressed, leading to gaps in both medical interventions and consumer health solutions. The vast majority of vaginal health issues today are related to a disturbance in the vaginal microbiome, yet most available solutions target only the symptoms in ways that further disturb this delicate ecosystem. As a microbiome science company, we felt compelled to create a clinically-validated solution that empowers women to take back control of their health— especially at a time when it feels like we’re moving backwards. Inspired by the data gaps and unmet needs in vaginal health, we’ve leveraged nearly two decades of breakthrough vaginal microbiome research to develop VS-01™—the first vaginal synbiotic clinically validated to rapidly establish an optimal vaginal microbiome dominated by L. crispatus, the vagina’s most protective bacteria. VS-01™ is the antidote to a legacy of harsh, reactive solutions— a sustainable approach that addresses the source, not just the symptoms.
MOST REWARDING MOMENTS
“Cultivating our brand for Seed has been one of the most meaningful projects I’ve ever worked on. I’ve always felt like it was the culmination of so many ideas I’ve had over the years, the synthesis of worlds and concepts I’ve always wanted to con-
nect, and a reflection of the world I’d like to live in— one that deeply understands systems, the interconnectedness of all life on Earth, challenges the status-quo, evokes first principles and re-frames science and bacteria into a beautiful lens. Science has historically been so cold and clinical and our brand was the opportunity to shift that perception and break through the noise. From our visual language to our industrial design to the language we speak, it’s a project that continues to reveal itself and the evolution (and the people I get to do that work with) is equally inspiring. If I had to pick just one moment, it would be the time when we stepped up in solidarity with Swehl and Molly Baz to donate our ad space in Times Square when her own billboard across the street was censored and taken down. It was an act of support that highlights the ongoing societal double standards that accept sexualized images of women while censoring natural representations of motherhood. It was personally meaningful to me as it was my own pregnancy and breastfeeding journey that ultimately led me to co-found Seed. I’m incredibly grateful we get to show up in moments like that and with a brand that has always tried to be the antidote to the traditional, but what’s actually even more meaningful are the stories we hear every day about the life-changing effects our products have. We’ve impacted the health of over one million people to date, and I’m inspired to continue building Seed so we can empower even more people to transform their well-being. And lastly, there was this one time we were told Kanye used us on his moodboard.”

BALANCING ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND MOTHERHOOD “It’s worth noting that men never get asked this question. The simple answer most women don’t honestly give is that unlike too many moms in this country, I can afford childcare. Yes, I have many other productivity hacks to share, but the simple truth is that all of those are made possible because I have the privilege to afford childcare. More tactically, I do live by my Google calendar. If it’s not on the calendar, life simply doesn’t work. And the more I plan, the more I can avoid a life dictated by my inbox and the things that need to
be reacted to all day. Even my deep work is scheduled. Self-care time, also on the calendar. Time with my children not to be scheduled over, also on the calendar. Who is doing bedtime, even that. Structuring time is the only way I’ve been able to solve the intentional space for what’s most important. I’ve never been one to silo all the parts of my life (part of where I think a lot of the tropes of ‘balancing it all’ and the suffering that emerges from feeling like one has to be chosen over another happen), so I have instead cultivated a life integrates much of what I care about, what I want to learn about, and where I want to spend my time. Lastly, I wake up early, very early.”
MORNING ROUTINE “As much of our team is based on the East Coast and Europe, I often have to be on 6 a.m. calls at our Venice office. On the days I can be home, I’m up between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m., making breakfast and with my kids until 7 a.m. or so depending on if I am doing school dropoff. Most days, I pick up a matcha and walk .5 miles to our office by 7:15 a.m., getting early sunlight and light cardio before I start work. My exercise starts much later in the day now due to my youngest son so I leave the office at 4 p.m. to do hot yoga and resistance training before heading into the vortex of dinner and bedtime.”
WHEN MOM GUILT STRIKES “I’d be lying if I didn’t answer ‘every single day.’ I have to re-
mind myself that I’m doing my best. I have an amazing partner who is an incredible dad and is able to maintain a steady presence when I’m not. I also remember that it’s important for young boys to see a woman model what it looks like to build something from nothing, to be in the world helping people, and to be contributing to her family in this way. Motherhood can shapeshift throughout our lifetime and can look so different for each of us at different stages, so I try not to sit in judgment of myself, but rather notice how it feels and find meaningful ways to connect when I can tell I or them need it most.”
HARDEST PART OF MOTHERHOOD “The hardest aspect of motherhood for me is
co-parenting. I find it’s easy to know what I would do, but no one hands you a manual on how to evolve a romantic relationship into a parenting partnership nor how to do that in a way that models healthy relationships, boundaries, and structure. The figuring it out has given me a lot of empathy for my parents and also been by far the most challenging.”
BUSINESS LESSONS FOR MY KIDS “I care that my children know how to generate new ideas and build and create. I want them to learn how to think deeply and how to synthesize— how to connect dots previously unconnected. When you do that, business is just what happens.”
