Refurbished rates hall now open Nigel Customer Care Centre (CCC) patrons will now enjoy walking into a newly refurbished rates hall following massive renovations to the tune of over R15 million. Standing in overcrowding long queues for services at the rates hall is something of
the past with the newly built premises officially being opened to customers with improved services. The multimillion rand construction process included the building of nine new service counters fitted with latest computers, printers and office furniture, the
renovation of the foyer and the building of a spacious 2-storey administration hall and new off ices for ward councillors. Externally, the Nigel CCC underwent the construction of covered walkways, covered parking, exterior painting of the existing buildings, waterproofing and painting of
existing roofs. “Delivering efficient services to our customers is a priority. We aim to create and maintain a standard look to ensure a conducive working environment,” said Nigel CCC Manager Tebogo Molefe.

I have been very frustrated in the last 3 to 4 years with something that is deep on my heart and I want to share this hopefully as a motivation for Christians to live with more of an open mind about “life”. Life is not all roses and we are constantly faced with challenges. Here is my predicament. When faced with challenges I am not a person to sit back and allow people or situations to walk over me. Because of my secular background I tend to want to have a win win situation not a win (supplier) loose (church/Christian) situation. When I, as minister, “take on” suppliers because of bad service I am so often faced with comments like “You call yourself a Christian” or “Is this how the church works”. So let us try to look at some Biblical as well as secular facts and maybe this will help the many Christians out there who are not sure what they should do when faced with bad service (in whichever form). On the secular side when a contract is signed or agreed upon it is the responsibility of the supplier to supply the goods (material, building or just service) as per the contract and within reasonable business practice. This means that if you build a building and the door does not work properly the supplier must come

back and fix it to be 100% correct and NOT “make a plan” and give you something that comes across as bad workmanship or looking second-hand. There are many people who we have dealt with as a church (often my leadership and not I have been working with the people) and at the end they “leave us in the lurch” and when we start to put demands onto them they are quick to point fingers at the church complaining that as a church we should “accept” their bad workmanship. What about the fact that we have paid for a service? So now comes the dilemma, are we right or should we just accept bad workmanship because we are a church or “Christian”. Let us look at the life of Jesus. He was constantly taking people on because they were wrong. The theology of the people was often wrong, the laws made by man were often wrong, the actions of the people were often wrong and the accusations against Jesus were always wrong – and He took them on! Jesus did not sit back and do nothing. He rather made comments against that which was wrong (eg the adulteress) or took action against what was wrong (eg turning the tables over in the temple courts). Jesus was also fair in that when one of His own did something wrong He rectified it (to be fair). An example of this is when the soldier’s ear was cut off. So here is my take. Demand in a decent way what is right and what is due to you. Act decent (do not swear or belittle the person) at all times but do not think that it is wrong to be firm and demand what is contractually due to you. We as a church and I as a person have often received excellent service and we have always acknowledged this service and thanked the suppliers (including letters published in the Rekord thanking people for their good service). Let us treat everyone equal and supply good service at all times – it will make a world of difference.

Driver died
a Driver of a blue Toyota Tazz died in a head on collision at the Poortjie Tjunction on the R23 after colliding with a white UD 460 truck carrying 33 tons of coal. According to the 36 years old truck driver, the deceased was travelling on the oncoming motor vehicles line when the accident occurred. During the collision, the truck dragged the blue Tazz for a distance of about 150m from the point of impact. Police are investigating.

15 Years for robbing a cell phone! The 24 year old Nhlanhla Vilakazi was found guilty for robbery with a weapon and were sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. It is alleged that he robbed a 18 year old scholar on her way to school of her cell phone using a knife. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Robbery A security guard at the control room of Heidelberg Mall was pointed with a firearm and both his hands and feet were tied with cable ties. The incident took place on Friday, October 7 around 04:30. It is alleged that suspects posed as employees that were installing cables. Suspects lured the other 3 suspects to come to the control room to tie the rest. It was discovered that suspects grinded the ATM at the FNB next to entrance 5. It is not yet clear whether they managed to take cash. Suspects are unknown. Police are appealing to anyone with information regarding the incident to report to their nearest police station, or sms to 32211 or 08600 10111.

Sheep thieves Police received complaint of suspicious people with a herd of sheep along Plain Street, the Botha’s Kraal Farming area. It is alleged that the employee at a farm along Plain Street, noticed 3 males walking with a herd of sheep towards Rensburg suburb. He immediately notif ied his employer and police were notified. Two of the suspects ran away and one was arrested. 11 Lambs, 1 ram and an ewe were recovered back valued at R11 000. The Vaalrand K9 W/O Pieterse and his tracker dog as well as Vaalrand Stock Theft
Unit W/O Jaco Viljoen and captain Johan Crawford assisted in the incident. The 62 year old farm owner, Kobus Scholtz appreciated and commended the work well done by the members of Heidelberg SAPS and the specialized Units. Scholtz further indicated that it is the third time that criminals stole his herd of sheep. He lost 36 sheep during September 2016 and 15 sheep November last year. The arrested suspect will appear before Heidelberg Magistrate Court, October 10, 2016.

Soms somber, en vol deernis, dalk ook met ‘n traan, maar soms ook guitig en vol vreugde. Hier is baie keer intiem verkeer, maar wanneer die familie opdaag, sit ons tot 15 aan hierdie besondere ou handgemaakte tafel. Mind blowing! Acts 2:7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? (NKJV) The outpouring of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the book of Acts marks the birth of the Church, one of the most important historical events that ever took place. When we consider the account of these happenings a few things immediately become evident. Firstly the newborn church started out with ordinary people that received the Holy Spirit and through this were transformed into world changers! Right from the very first moment, the church started growing because every bystander was completely amazed by the way in which God moved in and through the believers. Through the working of the Holy Spirit, the believers reached out across the boundaries of language and culture and people of every walk of life, ethnicity, age group and background were included in the ever-increasing number of believers. As God’s children it is imperative that we understand that He called us to be extraordinary. Our lives on earth should consistently yield tangible evidence of the goodness and power of God. God’s involvement in our lives (through the working of the Holy Spirit) sets us apart in the way we think, operate and do life. Because of this, our lives should look different from people who are not serving God. The only way in which this becomes possible is by aligning our focus with God’s perspective as we find it in the Word (Matthew 6:23). Only when we do this, can we start living lives guided by the Holy Spirit and completely set apart for the will and purpose of God. The Church of Acts caused a general uproar in their community. Not only did people marvel at what they saw in the lives of the believers, they were also moved to talk about it. Their lives shouted out in testimony to the astounding God that they served. Their everyday-ordinary-lives were such that it overwhelmed people around them with an awareness of God. Some people responded in awe, some in mockery and some in confusion but nobody was left unresponsive! Rather than reflecting their ordinary selves, they accurately reflected through the way they interacted and lived, who God is. Since the Church of Acts serves as a model of what God wants the Church to look like, it goes without saying that this should still be the norm today. If our lives are not such that it prompts people to be amazed to the point of speaking about it, it means that we are missing the mark. The key to living a mind blowing, extraordinary, God-reflecting kind of life is found in Acts 1:8 where we find the promise that the baptism of the Holy Spirit goes hand-in-hand with receiving power. As a result of the indwelling Spirit of God, we will become witnesses – people with first hand experience of the power of God in our lives. Without the Holy Spirit, we do not have the power or capacity to live exceptional lives. In fact, an absence of the Holy Spirit in our lives leaves us prone to sap power and energy rather than live dynamic lives that empower and inspire others. In Ephesians 5:18 the Apostle Paul likens a life lived under the influence of the Holy Spirit to someone who is under the influence of wine – such a person loses all fear of people and manifests behaviour and confidence in accordance with the substance they abused rather than their actual personality. Likewise, we should yield to the Holy Spirit in such a way that our own personalities, limitations, fears and scruples fall away. When this happens, there are certain things that will immediately become evident in our lives. People that live under the influence of the Holy Spirit can confidently (Acts 2:42 Ephesians 5:19): • Speak the Word • Have a song in their hearts • Engage in consistent thanksgiving to God • Submit to one another Does a mind blowing, amazing, extraordinary life not sound so much better than mundane and ordinary living?

Tackle bullying by the horns The increase in the number and severity of bullying incidents in schools calls for urgent and sustained intervention, an education expert has warned. “Almost every week we hear of another desperate learner or parent having to deal with the physical and emotional trauma of bullying, yet society and authorities’ responses continue to be reactive and unsuccessful in addressing the bigger issue,” says education expert Dr Gillian Mooney, Teaching and Learning Manager at The Independent Institute of Education. “These cases making it into the media represent only a fraction of the mistreatment many children go through. But the devastating consequences of bullying are leaving a lasting mark on the lives of countless youngsters, and the problem will continue growing unless an effective strategy is developed and consistently enforced,” she says. Mooney says that national and provincial education departments throughout South Africa do have policies and procedures in place, albeit to varying degrees, on how schools should respond to bullying behaviour. However more needs to be done to consistently support and educate learners, parents and schools to ensure the safety and wellbeing of everyone on the school grounds, she says. Mooney acknowledges that the challenge is enormous, and says that the crisis of bullying relates to more than just schools. “Society itself has become a virtual fight club, with examples of bullying behaviour abounding on social media, for instance. people feel free to behave appallingly, to the degree that anti-social behaviour has become almost accepted practice.” “Bullying has a ripple effect, where it is the bully, the victim and the bystander who are affected. Other problematic home circumstances, for instance
domestic abuse, divorce or the death of a parent, could also provide context in which the bully seeks to gain power through negative behaviour.” She says it is important that high-profile and easily accessible structures and processes are put in place to help schools deal with bullying, as teachers often feel their hands are tied and victims of bullying feel that they have no voice. Additionally, bullies themselves should receive adequate support and counselling. Dangerous misconceptions about bullying False: Adults should stay out of it when children are bullied. Adults must become involved. Teachers can monitor bullies to deter bullying behaviour. Principals can discipline. Parents can report to schools. False: Boys are the most likely victims. Both boys and girls are equally susceptible to bullying, although perhaps in different ways. Both boys and girls are the targets of physical bullying. Girls are more likely to experience relational, sexual and cyberbullying. False: Children should just toughen up. This myth is a hangover from ideas like “boys will be boys” and that children will “work it out”. Bullying can cause real harm and should not be ignored. False: Bystanders should stay out of it when they witness bullying. Evidence suggests that bystanders are also affected by witnessing bullying. Observers also give bullies the audiences that they crave, and legitimacy if they do not sanction the behaviour. Children can be taught to reduce bullying by noticing, reporting and intervening. False: It is easy to spot a bullied child. Children do not report everything that happens in their lives to their parents. Adults need to f ind ways to make reporting bullying easier for children, and to follow up effectively when they do.

Water restrictions The City of Ekurhuleni is implementing a 10% punitive rate to step up measures to save water. The Water and Sanitation Department announced that the City had only achieved a 0.8% saving rate compared to the required 15% water saving since the implementation of water restrictions. Residents using more than 25 kilolitres (kl) of water will be charged a 10% punitive rate. The 25kl is inclusive of the 6kl of free water supply provided to all household and domestic users. Businesses and other users will be charged up to a 40% penalty if they fail to decrease their annual average usage by 15%. This average will be based on their consumption over 12 months, from September 2015 to August 2016. Municipal by-laws will strongly be enforced to transgressors as per the water restriction tariffs of 2016/2017. The City urges residents to double up efforts to save water. Restrictions currently in place include that there should be no use of hosepipes, sprinklers, irrigation systems, no filling of swimming pools at all times. In addition, there should be no watering of gardens between 6am and 6pm.
