Marievale, saga still going strong!

Marievale was originally a mining area with a surface right permit developed in terms of the Mines and Work Act of South Africa originally passed in 1911 and amended in 1912, 1926 and undergone further changes in 1956 and 1959 till date. In terms of these relevant acts houses and related social infrastructure was developed and can still be developed. The advancement of the ANC led South African Revolution from the Bhambatha Rebellion forth wards, led to the 1975/76 June uprising. The South African Army Engineer Corps 1 Construction Regiment utilised Marievale as a support unit to the SA Army and after the shutting down of Dunnottar Air force Base, 1 Construction Regiment took over the Air force Base. The South African Police and SADF commando units occupied Marievale in order to launch operations to suppress uprisings against the then oppressed Alra Park, Duduza, Kwathema, Tsakane, Wattville and Daveyton revolutionary organisations. This also included protecting whites crop farmers in the area against uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) and Azania Peoples Liberation Army (APLA) as social reformers and guerrilla operators. In 1996, two years after the first democratic elections in South Africa Marievale Group 16 was shut down and abandoned by the SA Army. Various factors influenced the suspension and shutting down of mines including the latest Aurora and Pamodzi Gold issue. All these factors which include nature conservation, shutting down of Marievale as a military base, poverty, destituteness and unemployment saw Marievale experiencing vandalism which included electricity and cable theft. This is how houses in Marievale which were previously meant for whites only, in the midst of many African South Africans only occupying domestic quarters, houses and shacks at Happiness Valley received attention and were put into good use by all who were homeless and in need of land and places they can call home. This included a few soldiers who worked at Dunnottar military base. In essence the community of Marievale is comprised of citizen’s who have been staying in Marievale working domestic workers, abandoned and destitute mine workers,

farm workers, soldiers who neither qualify for bank guaranteed bonds nor RDP houses. These are a people who have been in this place for more than twenty years with others having been in Marievale for over thirty years. Children who were born and grew up in this area whose parents left them in the very houses in which they were born forms part of this community. Most of the children if not all who were born here in Marievale, now have their own children including also our African brothers and sisters from various other countries like Mozambique, Zimbabwe, DRC, Zambia, Lesotho with their children who worked in the Marievale Aurora/ Pamodzi gold mine and were left destitute with the closing down of the mine. This community has always been here from generation to generation amidst all administrative actions and injustices imposed over their heads with no to protection. On the morning of November 25, 2015 at 7:15 the Dunnottor Military Base, Nigel, without any prior warning to the local residents, decided to LOCK-DOWN, the Marievale residential area, preventing resident’s freedom of movement. Confirmed rumours had it that the Military is at an advance stage to “illegally” evict residents that have been living on the Plot for many, many years on end. The purpose is allegedly to prepare the living units for soldiers, because it is alleged the property belongs to the Military. Please intervene and investigate the latter, and revert back, because if it’s true that the Military, gets involve in Human Settlement and Housing issues, then the safety of the country is under threat. Local residents at Marievale have written proof that if there is any move that needs to be done on the Marievale Plot, the Department of Public Works is the first point of entry, which needs to be entered in to. Hence the Public Workers needs to handover Marievale to the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM), so that the residents could provide with ownership of the houses followed with title deeds. There were also confirmed rumours that a local Coal Mine, called: Ilangabe Coal Mining is working in cahoots with the Dunnottar Military Base to evict Marievale residents, so that the Mine must spread its

Man dood na piksteel aanval ‘n 46-jarige boer is dood nadat hy verlede week met ‘n piksteel op sy plaas by Witkop buite Nigel aangeval is. Kapt.

wings to start coal mining in the immediate area and vicinity. Rumours were spreading further that the envisaged imminent eviction of the Marievale residents, is to make way for tens, hundreds and thousands of workers that will be recruited from all over the country and the world for the PRASA Manufacturing Plant, worth R51billion, that will have a lifespan of ten (10) years and above, were a further R115billlion will be invested by PRASA, working together with their BEEBBBEE, partners, called: Gibela Rail SA. The Marievale Committee, therefore demand: The immediate removal of the trenches which were created by the Military Excavators which have closed off non-secure entrances to the residential

area and Community. These trenches were an imminent danger for the children of the residents, because they swim in them. That arrogant and confrontational serving soldiers in full uniform stop with immediate effect to bully, threaten and make uncalled-for remarks against the Marievale community. That Dunnottar Military soldiers stop vandalizing and stripping the area to the ground, by removing corrugated roof irons, which is a direct contradiction of what we were told that the area, needs to be cleared (evictions) aimed at refurbishing and renovating it. Up to date they still f ighting for the protection of families from discrimination, unlawful eviction and harassment.

Scrapping of e-Tolls W hy should I study

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng notes the comments made by the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula about the possible scrapping of e-Tolls. While this is a step in the right direction, this is not the first time that the ANC-led government has hinted that e-tolls will be scrapped.

Just before the general elections the ANC said e-tolls would be gone by May. e-Tolls, is an unfair financial burden to the residents of Gauteng. Earlier this year, the South African National Roads Agency (SANRAL) said they will no longer be issuing summonses for outstanding e-toll debt. If the Minister of Transport is serious about scrapping e-Tolls he needs to give us a clear timeline as to when this will happen. It is clear that this system is not working and needs to be scrapped.

Bible Prophecy?

TruLight Radio XM – Teaching Article There are six very good reasons why you should study Bible prophecy. 1. Nearly a Third of the Bible is Prophecy Some 31% of the Bible is God letting mankind know what the future holds. And I’m not just talking about the writings of the Major and Minor Prophets and the book of Revelation. If you don’t want to read prophecy, then you also have to skip the Psalms, Jesus’ own teachings in the Gospels, and pretty much all the books by Peter, Paul, Jude and John. The Apostle Paul warned Christians, “Do not despise prophecies.” He even confirmed that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” and so that must also include the prophetic writings. And, even Jesus throughout the Gospels and Revelation, recited prophecies from the Old Testament and taught new ones. To top it all off, Jesus promised a blessing for those who read and obey the prophecies in the book of Revelation. So, if prophecy is so important to Jesus, then shouldn’t it be important to Christians as well? 2. The Focus of Prophecy is Jesus Christ Bible prophecy is in the end all about Jesus. Jesus declared He must fulf il prophecy so that “…all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” The angel of Revelation 19 even equated the testimony of Jesus with prophecy, declaring “…Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” If Jesus did not fulfil even one of the 109 distinct First Coming prophecies about the Messiah, then He couldn’t be who He claimed to be — the Saviour. Fulfilled prophecy validates Jesus’ claim to divinity and being our Saviour. 3. Fulfilled Prophecies Prove the Bible is Truly God’s Word The Bible is unique in being prophetic. There is no religious book, not by Buddha or Krishna or Mohammed or anyone else, ever written which contains so much prophecy. And, I’m not talking about general prophecies about the future, but super specif ic prophecies such as the Messiah would descend from the line of David, be born in Bethlehem, be killed by crucifixion, and be raised from the dead three days later. The actual fulfilment of all these prophecies and over a hundred more proves the Bible truly is the Word of God, and so we can put our faith in what it teaches. 4. Bible Prophecy Motivates One to Holy Living The Prophets and Apostles didn’t just relay God’s messages about the future, but they also gave powerful messages concerning

living morally. For example, Romans 13 encourages, “…the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.” When the people obeyed prophetic teachings, they grew spiritually. 1 John 3 declares, “…when He [Jesus] is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. “They became better people, being less self-cantered and more God-cantered. 1 Peter 4 admonishes, “But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers… have fervent love for one another… minister to one another, be good stewards…” When a person is more heavenly minded they’ll be more generous because they’re investing in eternity. 2 Peter 3 advises, “But the day of the Lord will come… Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God…” And, the people became much better at discerning truth from falsehoods. Luke 21 warns, “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life and that Day come on you unexpectedly…” 5. Bible Prophecy Energizes Christians to Evangelize Knowing that we’re quickly running out of time before Jesus returns, Christians when they study Bible prophecy become motivated to get out there and tell people about the Good News of Jesus Christ. Fulfilled Bible prophecies actually are an excellent apologetics tool for defending the faith. And, the Gospel is very attractive to people wanting to know what the future holds. 6. Bible Prophecy Provides Hope for the Future When the world seems to be careening into chaos and you wonder if God’s still around, Bible prophecy tells us God certainly is still in control. In the light of Bible prophecy, these crazy current events finally make sense. They’re all leading up to one big thing — Jesus Christ’s return. And when Jesus returns, He wins! And when Jesus wins, believers in Christ, well, we win as well! So, when you live a life of anticipating victory, you too can have hope for the future.

The Partners for Possibility (PfP) programme seeks to address the current crisis in education through a unique approach of leadership development and support for school principals, working in collaboration with other role-players in the education space. Symphonia for South Africa invites members of the business community to partner with a principal over a 12-month period. During this time both partners are exposed to a dynamic leadership development programme while being supported through the experience of applying new skills and knowledge in their individual schools, and equipped to nurture networks of support around their schools. Since 2010 and up to 31 August 2018, Symphonia for SA has won multiple awards and accreditations for its innovative response to the country’s educational challenge, most notably the prestigious international WISE award. Over the same period, Symphonia for SA launched a total of 842 partnerships between school principals and business partners. In line with its commitment to putting early stage education f irst, in the last 1,5 financial years PfP has continued to focus the majority of its efforts on primary schools. Of the 269 partnerships established between March 2017 and August 2018, 172 are primary or preparatory schools. While the coverage of schools in the main urban centres will continue to grow, the PfP team is gearing up for an increasing presence in outlying provinces. We support every partnership as closely as possible and coach them through challenging episodes. Our goal is that at least 90% of the school principals who start the programme will complete it twelve months later. The satisfaction of school principals and

business partners who have participated in the PfP programme is assessed through a post-programme survey. In this evaluation a comparison of the “before” and “after” scenarios shows that, while there is still room for improvement, principals feel that their school has made clear progress in all four target areas of the PfP programme. Factors that contributed to improved results in schools: Strengthening of the school’s internal functionality, including: Collaborative and caring leadership by the school principal who, for example, provides a compelling vision to teachers, acknowledges them and supports their resilience. Developing healthier organisational cultures, resolving internal conflict. A Foundation Phase Head of Department (HOD) who is leading his/her team with a strong culture of teamwork and mutual support. Making better use of data-driven management, analysing and being responsive to the findings emerging from the analysis. Enhancing the collaboration with key school stakeholders, including: Communicating more openly with parents and mobilising them to fully play their role in the education of their children Building strong relationships of trust with district education off icials, and in particular with Foundation Phase curriculum advisors. Organisations involved in many PfP schools include: Wordworks, Shine Literacy, Living through Learning, Help2Read, Reading & Writing solutions. Interest parties can call Diane Holtzhauzen, Events & Administrative Manager at Cell:082 895 1425.

NIGEL/HEIDELBERG REKORD - ONLINE EDITION www.rekord.org.za

Cr icket puzzle Former Proteas coach Ray Jennings says he does not believe that AB de Villiers made himself available for South Africa's Cricket World Cup campaign 24 hours prior to the team being announced. "AB is the most sincere person - definitely not selfish as a player. I'd put my life on the line so say that it’s rubbish that he would wait until 24 hours before the team announcement to make himself available. It's nonsense," Jennings said in an interview. It was earlier reported that De Villiers, who was in India at the time, had approached national captain Faf du Plessis and coach Ottis Gibson before the 15-man World Cup squad was announced, stating his intentions to play in the event. The news was relayed to Cricket South Africa's convenor of selectors Linda Zondi, but the decision was taken to deny De Villiers' request to be fair to other players. But Jennings feels there was more happening behind the scenes than the public was led to believe. "I'd expect something like this from an arrogant Kevin Pietersen or Graeme Smith, but definitely not AB. I just know him too well to believe he'll do something like this. There is another story behind the scenes that need to be told. "New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult acknowledges that it would have been "awesome" to bowl against AB de Villiers at the 2019 World Cup. The 35-year-old De Villiers, who retired from international cricket in May last year, made headlines during the 2019 World Cup when he allegedly made himself available for World Cup selection on the day before the squad was announced.

Lap desk excitement! Heidelberg Mall is committed to education and community upliftment in the Heidelberg community. Lap desks are light and durable desks which provide a solution for school children who do not have desks. The desk sits on the child’s lap, providing them with a surface to write on, whether they are sitting on a chair or on the floor. As the desks are portable, the child is able to take the desk home to provide them with a surface on which to do their homework. The desks are printed with educational tools such as the alphabet, multiplication tables, emergency contact numbers and a map of the world. The educational material is adjusted depending on the age group and school. The 2019 Heidelberg Mall Lap Desk Project includes a donation of 665 lap desks to all scholars attending Tikelo Primary Farm School and Kudung Middle School.
