Information we use to make good breeding decisions. Marywood Breeders Group is dedicated to producing the highest quality animals using every resource available to make the best breeding decisions. We evaluate the genetic potential and future production capabilities of our animals using production measurements, genetic evaluations and good common sense.

Understanding EPD Graphics Percentile Rank: Shows where an animal ranks in comparison to the rest of the breed. The smaller the percentile ranking the better. For example, this animal is in the top 20% of the breed for MWWT. This means only 20% of the breed ranks better for this trait. EPD Graphs: These graphs are a quick visualization of the Percentile Ranking for an animal over 11 traits. In the graph seen here, bars that go from the middle to the left show a trait that is below breed average. The longer the bar measures toward the left, the worse the animal ranks in comparison to other animals in the breed. Bars that go from the middle to the right on the graph show a trait that is above breed average. The longer the bar measures toward the right, the better the animal ranks in comparison to other animals in the breed. The numbers on the far right in the graph show the actual percentile rank number. In this example, the animal is above below breed average for WWT, YWT, MWWT, Milk, CWT. Understanding ultrasound data. Ultrasound technology allows us to actually see under an animal’s hide to measure ribeye area (REA), marbling (IMF) and back fat (Fat). These values can be used to calculate lean meat yield (LMY). It is important to use this information to ensure the genetic evaluations (ABCs and CSA EPDs) are pointing us in the right direction. As important as genetics are in beef production, you can’t get away without looking at your animals to make sure they are sound with good conformation. Ultrasound lets you look in your animal to make sure that you are producing a quality beef product. At the end of the day this is a beef producing industry! Average measurement for an animal on test: ribeye area (REA) of 13 in, marbling (IMF) of 3.9% intramuscular fat, back fat (Fat) of 8 mm, and lean meat yield (LMY) of 61% of live weight to saleable meat. WINTERING PROGRAM FOR YOUR NEW BULL A wintering program is available for your new herd bull. After the sale we are able to keep your new bull at our test center on a ration that will have him ready for breeding season when you are ready to take him home. We have a feed & yardage rate of $3.25 a day for all bulls purchased from the Marywood Breeders Group from Sale day until your ready for you are new herd bull.

FEED RATION & BULL SELECTION FOR KEY TRAITS The Marywood Bull Test Station feeds a high protein forage diet, consisting of baled hay and grain (oat-wheat screenings, and corn distillers) topped with Kenpal mineral. This years bull ration had less energy resulting in lighter EOT wt, however the bulls have continued to gain weight and fill out into herd bulls. What a great demonstration of feed conversion and efficiency. After the feed test, they are put on a limited grain diet, including Kenpal mineral, with a higher amount of bailed wrapped hay to give them the growth and gain they need to become high performing breeding bulls. The bulls are selected for several key traits  Temperament  Feet and Legs / Frame  Across Breed Comparisons, Simmental EPDs  Sire / Dam  Birth weight, weaning weight, (ADG)  Scrotal Circumference (SC)  Lean meat yield (LMY)

THE RIGHT BULL = HIGHER INCOME By record keeping for your entire herd, you can be certain to select the best herd bull for all of your animals. This will help you maximize profit in your herd by decreasing the number of calves lost due to birthing complications and increase your average calf crop weaning weights by up to 10-20%. As an example based on a cow herd of 25, increasing the number of live calves at weaning from 22 to 24 by improving calving ease and increasing your average weaning weight from 600lbs to 730lbs you could increase your income by $4320.00 (based on $1.35 per pound for each weaned calf).

Our top pick out of the Gagnon program, this solid red deep bodied herd bull is complete in every way. Thick and masculine with a smooth shoulder this bull is loaded with "red meat". He has the credentials of a great herd sire.

Here at PROBULL STOCK FARM, we make a real effort not to breed a purebred animal. We started this way back in the early 90'z and have achieved a base herd that excels in all the economically important traits, MULTI-GENERATION COMPOSITES. We base our composite breeding program on both Red and Black Angus and also Red and Black Simmental, but we need Purebreds to work or program. Our strategy of stacking selected genetics on top of selected genetics has resulted in cattle that are constant in all traits, and seem- ingly, fertility is the first thing to excel and we select hard for that, udders, temperament, feet and ease of keeping have been achieved through our selection process. Multi-generation composites, we've done it many a time, and the result is consistency of type, calving ease, big on performance and growth, calf birth vigor and being aggressive at the feed bunk. They can't live if they don't get up and suck and they sure cannot gain if they don't know how to stand at the feed bunk, our cattle possess these special traits. I have to go back a few years, as 'WOODY' and I stood amongst his fall calvers, ""the perfect time to calve, you need to get there", he and I debated, and I thought calving in January was far better then 'WOOD' was calving in September. Well, a bit of a slow learner, but after 2 winters of -26 or so temps, lesson learned, ""we're quickly achieving fall calving"", as of October 30th, 22 calves on the ground. I do a check once a day on 3 pastures. On this past December 27th, we brought the cows home off cover crop pasture with 34 calves, the previous year it was 21, this year it will be 50 anyway. Now that is gett'nn'rr done, I have continued to emphasize fertility, our composite breeding program excels in calving interval. We are offering 3 bred heifers and 5 heifer calves, 3 bulls, the average calving interval of their Mom's is 345 days. Our offering represents 2 of the new herdsires we are using now, Tambri Attaboy 3A, A REAL POWER BULL, adding milk, and growth, while RHF 680Y, proven high performance, adding meat and muscle. 3A bested our guys in the 2014 test at Kenilworth, so "if you can't beat em, better buy em"! Similarly with 680, his sons have continued to be at the top at Kenilworth Bull Center, we purchased RHF 409B, you will see his progeny next year. Purchased these bulls in partnership with the Piggott Family at Brigden, we have proof from both herds, calving ease, growth, perfection! This year our bred heifers were exposed to our new red bull FGAF Top Cut 144B we purchased from Ferme Gagnon in Quebec in 2015, or TNT R77 Legacy Z330, our proven calving ease bulls. FGAF 114B has a birth weight of 82 pounds, with EPDs in the top 4% of the Simmental breed for calving ease, top 15% for low birth weight and top 20% for maternal calving ease, which is extremely hard to find when adding in his performance and carcass numbers. We are extremely please with his first crop of calves. The TNT Z330 bull is homozygous black and proven to work on first heifers, plus we have 1 bull and 6 daughters in the sale to see his results. I bought the bull in 2013 from Leo Moore a registered breeder, just north of Barrie. He is an easy calver, never had to pull one, I used him for several years and have many great calves from him. First timers and heifers did well, no problems. He is very tame and docile, easy to work with and around. Always on the job, gets them all in calf.

601 is a powerhouse! She's got a pedigree backed by an sire producing cow family, individual performance at the top of our program, a genomic profile at the top of the industry and a phenotype of a front pasture female. This heifer is long, deep, wide and carries that massive body on a sound skeleton. Her epd profile has her in the top 15% for 10 of the 12 traits measured by the CAA, with a very nice BW to YW spread. When you look at the carcass side, she is top 1% for REA and has a unique combination of top 15% for both MARBLING and FAT. Comments: Here is an own granddaughter of the famous “7260” cow out of one of our best daughters. She is moderate in her design with a very nice udder. That udder is not just for looks either - she weaned the heaviest heifer calf in the group at 815 lbs for an index of 109. Her dam is a herd bull producing machine and it sure looks like the apple didn’t fall from from the tree on this one. Comments: Here would be my personal pick from out 2016 heifer calf crop. She is a tank! She was born small, but she didn’t look back

with a weaning weight topping the group at 815 lbs. 603 is massive bodied heifer on a great foot and this heifer is quiet. If you don’t find her, she will find you in the pasture, always looks for her head or back scratched. When we look at this females EPD profile, you have to impressed with her growth numbers along with top 5% for CALVING EASE, top 1% for REA and top 10% for FAT. Her genomic results backup her EPDS with a top 20% for CED, top 7% for REA and top 14% for FAT. She also ranks in the top 12% for RFI and coming off a drought year, I know a lot of us are taking a closer look at feed efficiency. Comments: This is the only Resource daughter selling from our 2016 calf crop - every other Resource daugher is in our replacement pen. Here is a heifer that has been picked out by several astute cowmen touring this summer. She’s wasn’t the tallest heifer out on pasture, but she sure wasn’t the lightest either - 708 lbs at weaning! 623 puts a lot of nice things together in one package - moderate frame, thickness, natural muscle and structural soundness. If there is any heifer calf in the offering that has the most potential to go on to be a great brood cow, it’s this one right here. Comments: This cow and her daughter (also selling), might be the most phenotypically appealing pair of the entire offering. She is always one that I find myself asking when viewing our herd from a distance - who is THAT cow? Her dam was the same way - cut very nice, smooth in her makeup and really a model cow when it comes to size and shape. Comments: 603 is following in her mama’s footsteps when it comes to type and kind. Phenotypically, she is very attractive and when you look at her on paper, she gathers even more interest. She’s a negative BW (Top 2%) heifer with a YW nearing 100 (Top 10%) with a CED in the top 2%. Put that together with a top 10% for REA and top 15% for FAT and you have a very unique EPD profile. But it doesn’t stop there, her genomic profile is at the top of the group. Top 15% for traits including CED, WW, YW and FAT. Comments: 605 is a stylish heifer that quickly became a favourite of mine when working with the sale cattle. She was the last heifer to get

sorted into the sale group and she was one of the first to be broke. Excellent disposition on this heifer. Her weaning weight is a little lighter than the rest of the sale group because she was in with a group that didn’t have access to creep, but she has sure performed will since. I really like the sires in the pedigree of this female. With Bismarck, Resource and Net Worth backing her up, she is bound to go on to be a great cow. Her dam is easily our best looking 2yr old and she has sisters working in the Tambri and Sandy Ridge herds. When we analyze this females EPD and genomic profile, we see top 15% for WW, YW, CED and REA for EPDS and CED, RFI and DOC for genomics. She might be the most overall balanced female in the offering. Comments: I get in trouble with my dad every time I suggest selling one of these Emblynette females and selling this one might be our biggest mistake. She is an own granddaughter of the cornerstone “7260” cow and full sister in blood to many time champion for Blake Boyd, SAV Emblynette 8035. I believe this female will go on be a champion in her own right. She has the potential to be a foundation type cow in any program.
