Migrants in Countries in Crisis Supporting an Evidence-Based Approach for Effective and Cooperative State Action

CONTEXT When conflicts or disasters hit, international migrants present in the crisis-stricken country are often among the affected population. Action is required at pre-crisis, emergency and post-crisis phases to address their needs and the long term impacts of such situations on development. KEY DATA

OBJECTIVE Improve the capacity of States and other actors to assist and protect migrants in countries in crisis and address the long-term implications of such situations

ACTIVITIES 1) RESEARCH AIM

Address shortcomings in the knowledge and data surrounding migration in countries in crisis, with a focus on the development implications of such situations OUTPUTS

• Literature review and analysis of gaps in existing research • Case studies based on field research • Summary document presenting key findings and policy recommendations 2) SUPPORT TO REGIONAL AND GLOBAL CONSULTATIONS

AIM

Explore and define issues at stake, gaining perspectives of consulted States and other stakeholders. Learn from best practices, collect evidence and propose a way forward to better assist and protect migrants in countries in crisis. OUTPUTS
