BAFTA CYMRU CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE
Welcome to the Wales Millennium Centre and to the British Academy Cymru Awards 2014. Tonight’s awards ceremony provides a platform for the best that Wales has to offer in the entertainment and media sector, and recognises all our industry’s work in entertaining audiences in Wales and beyond over the past year.
I would like to welcome Anne Morrison, the new Chair of BAFTA, and wish her the very best in her role for the coming years. Thanks also to John Willis, the outgoing Chairman, Amanda Berry, Chief Executive of the Academy and Kevin Price, Chief Operating Officer, for their continued support for the event and the work of BAFTA Cymru during the year.
On this special night, we celebrate the achievements of many within the creative industries. However that is only one part of BAFTA Cymru’s work, as the team organises a full range of events which showcase productions, share best practice and nurture the next generations of wonderful Welsh talent. I would like to take this opportunity to thank members, sponsors and supporters for all their hard work which make these events possible. I would also like to thank BBC Cymru Wales, ITV Cymru Wales and S4C for their continuing support throughout the year.
The past year saw the departure of Allison Dowzell from her role as Director of BAFTA Cymru and I would like to thank Allison for her hard work and dedication in helping drive BAFTA Cymru forward.
Thanks in particular to Jonathan Davies, our awards producer, our host this evening, Jason Mohammad and NEP Cymru and Gorilla for providing a full range of production facilities again this year.
Our great appreciation for tonight’s event goes to BAFTA Cymru’s interim Director, Hannah Raybould and her team. My thanks also to Dewi Vaughan Owen, who I am fortunate enough to succeed as Chair of BAFTA Cymru. During the past five years, Dewi has worked tirelessly to make sure that BAFTA Cymru has a solid base from which to flourish in future years. We are also indebted to all the members of our BAFTA committees and BAFTA juries for their important contributions during the year. Finally, many congratulations to all of this year’s BAFTA nominees, to whom we wish every success, tonight and in the future.

NEGES GAN GADEIRYDD BAFTA (DU)
Pleser mawr i mi yw dweud ychydig eiriau i’ch croesawu chi i 23ain Gwobrau’r Academi Brydeinig yng Nghymru. Mae’r digwyddiad heno’n nodi 23ain mlynedd o waith BAFTA Cymru yn cydnabod a gwobrwyo rhagoriaeth yn sectorau ffilm, teledu a chyfryngau newydd yng Nghymru. Bûm yn ymwneud â BBC Cymru pan oedd y pentref drama ym Mhorth y Rhath yn freuddwyd yn unig, felly mae datblygiad y diwydiannau creadigol yma wedi bod yn drawiadol dros ben.
10
Sefydlwyd BAFTA Cymru ym 1987, a chynhaliwyd y seremoni Wobrwyo bwrpasol gyntaf ym 1991. Ers hynny, mae wedi tyfu’n ddigwyddiad blynyddol pwysig i ddiwydiant y cyfryngau yn y wlad.Y tu hwnt i’r Gwobrau, mae BAFTA Cymru hefyd yn cynnal rhaglen ddynamig ac amrywiol o ddigwyddiadau drwy gydol y flwyddyn, gan weithio’n agos â darlledwyr teledu a’r diwydiant ffilm i hyrwyddo materion allweddol yn ein diwydiannau gyda llais annibynnol. Mae BAFTA yn deulu o ganghennau cenedlaethol a rhanbarthol sy’n cynnwys Cymru, yr Alban, Efrog Newydd a Los Angeles, sy’n gweithio’n ddiflino i gyflawni ei addewid elusennol i ysbrydoli’r cyhoedd. Ar ddiwedd 2011, lansiwyd gwefan newydd gennym wedi’i hanelu at gychwyn gyrfaoedd, sef BAFTA Guru (www.bafta.org/guru), sy’n ffynhonnell anferthol o ysbrydoliaeth lle mae llawer o’n digwyddiadau ar y cyd ag ymarferwyr sefydledig mewn diwydiant ar gael i’w gwylio ac i ysbrydoli.
Hefyd, rydym yn gobeithio datblygu perthynas fyd-eang gryfach fyth â’n tri sector diwydiant, sef ffilm, teledu a gêmau. Rwyf yn arbennig o awyddus ein bod yn parhau i gryfhau ein perthynas â phrif ddarlledwyr y DU ac felly hoffwn estyn fy niolch i BBC Cymru Wales, S4C ac ITV Cymru Wales am eu cefnogaeth barhaus. Hoffwn dalu teyrnged i’n staff yma yng Nghymru, ac yn arbennig i Allison Dowzell am ei gwaith cyn iddi ymadael yn gynharach eleni; Hannah Raybould, ei holynydd; Claire Heat; Fiona Lynch; Holly Jones; a Maxine Dedominicis, sydd bob un ohonynt wedi gweithio gyda chymaint o ymroddiad ar ran yr Academi drwy gydol y flwyddyn, a hefyd i’r Pwyllgor, o dan arweiniad galluog Ian Jones. Hefyd, hoffwn ddiolch i’n cyflwynydd am y noson, Jason Mohammad. Yn olaf, llongyfarchiadau i’r holl enwebeion, y mae eu gwaith gwych yn dyst i’r rhagoriaeth barhaus yn y diwydiannau delweddau symudol yng Nghymru. Rwy’n gobeithio y bydd pawb ohonoch yn mwynhau’r noson.
Anne Morrison Cadeirydd BAFTA
BAFTA (UK) CHAIR’S MESSAGE
It gives me great pleasure to say a few words to welcome you to the 23rd British Academy Cymru Awards. Tonight’s event marks the 23rd year of BAFTA Wales’ work acknowledging and rewarding excellence in the Welsh film, television and new media production sectors. Having been involved with BBC Wales when the drama village at Roath Lock was only a gleam in the eye, the development of the creative industries here has been extremely impressive. BAFTA Wales was established in 1987, with its first dedicated Awards ceremony taking place in 1991 that has since grown to become a major annual event for the country’s media industry. Beyond the Awards, BAFTA Wales also hosts a dynamic and varied programme of events all year round, working closely with television broadcasters and the film industry to champion key issues in our industries with an independent voice. BAFTA is a family of national and regional branches including Wales, Scotland, New York and Los Angeles, working tirelessly to deliver on its charitable promise to inspire the public. In late 2011, we launched our new website aimed at career starters, BAFTA Guru (www.bafta.org/guru), a huge source of inspiration where our many events with established industry practitioners are available to watch and be inspired by. We also hope to develop ever stronger, global relations with our three sector industries of film, television and games. I’m particularly keen that we continue to strengthen our relationships with the major UK broadcasters, and I would therefore like to extend my gratitude to BBC Cymru Wales, S4C and ITV Wales for their continued support.
I would like to pay tribute to our staff here in Wales, in particular Allison Dowzell for her work prior to her departure earlier this year, Hannah Raybould, her successor, Claire Heat, Fiona Lynch, Holly Jones and Maxine Dedominicis, who have all worked with such dedication on behalf of the Academy throughout the year, and also to the Committee, led ably by Ian Jones. I’d also like to thank our host for the evening, Jason Mohammad. Finally, congratulations to all the nominees, whose fine work is testimony to the on-going excellence in the moving image industries of Wales. I hope you all enjoy your evening.

Wrth i ni ymgynnull yn Seremoni Wobrwyo’r Academi Brydeinig yng Nghymru eleni i fyfyrio ar lwyddiannau diweddar ein diwydiant teledu a ffilm, mae’n bwysig ein bod hefyd yn edrych i ddyfodol darlledu yng Nghymru.
As we gather at this year’s British Academy Cymru Awards to reflect on the recent successes of our television and film industry, it is important that we also look to the future of broadcasting in Wales.
Mae’r diwydiant yn parhau i ffynnu yma, gan ddod â gwaith, swyddi ac incwm ariannol i’r wlad. Wrth gwrs, mae heriau o’n blaenau – mae hynny’n rhan annatod o dirwedd ein cyfryngau sy’n newid yn gyson, ond mae dyfodiad Stiwdio Pinewood sydd ar ddigwydd yn arwydd clir o bethau cadarnhaol i ddod. Mae hyn nid yn unig yn gyflawniad enfawr i’r sector, ond hefyd yn arwydd o ymroddiad Llywodraeth Cymru i ddarparu cefnogaeth hirdymor barhaus i’n diwydiannau creadigol.
The industry continues to thrive here, bringing work, jobs and financial income to the country. Of course, there are challenges ahead – that is part and parcel of the ever-changing media landscape we operate in, but the imminent arrival of Pinewood Studios is a clear-cut sign of positive things to come. This is not only a huge coup for the sector but also an indication of the Welsh Government’s dedication to providing continued, long-term support to our creative industries.
Er mwyn gyrru twf y diwydiannau hyn, rhaid i ni weithio’n galed i feithrin y cyfoeth o dalent newydd sydd gennym yma yng Nghymru. Mae cynlluniau hyfforddiant sy’n canolbwyntio ar ddarparu profiad yn y gwaith yn allweddol, ac mae’r rhain yn gofyn am gefnogaeth gan Lywodraeth Cymru a chwmnïau sy’n gweithredu yn y sector. Drwy weithio gyda’n gilydd, gallwn ysbrydoli a pharatoi’r genhedlaeth nesaf o dechnegwyr darlledu medrus a sicrhau dyfodol hyd yn oed mwy disglair ar gyfer ein diwydiant teledu a ffilm.
In order to fuel the growth of these industries, we must work hard to nurture the wealth of new talent we have here in Wales. Training schemes centred on providing on-the-job experience are key and these require the support of both the Welsh Government and companies operating in the sector. By working together we can inspire and equip the next generation of skilled broadcast technicians and secure an even brighter future for our television and film industry.
Mae NEP Cymru’n falch o fod yn Noddwr y Digwyddiad ar gyfer Gwobrau’r Academi Brydeinig yng Nghymru ac yn dymuno llongyfarch pob un o’r enwebeion a’r enillwyr heno.
NEP Cymru is proud to be the Event Sponsor for the British Academy Cymru Awards and wishes to congratulate all of tonight’s nominees and winners.

NODDWR ALLWEDDOL Y DIGWYDDIAD: GORILLA KEY EVENT SPONSOR: GORILLA Dyma’r adeg honno o’r flwyddyn pan ddown at ein gilydd i ddathlu llwyddiannau diweddar diwydiant teledu a ffilm Cymru – ac mae Seremoni Wobrwyo’r Academi Brydeinig yng Nghymru bob amser yn ddathliad addas iawn ar gyfer y gronfa enfawr o dalent ein cenedl.
It’s that time of year when we come together to celebrate the recent successes of Wales’ television and film industry - and what a fitting celebration of our nation’s vast pool of talent the British Academy Cymru Awards always prove to be.
Eleni, mae’r Gwobrau’n dychwelyd i’r amserlen ddarlledu, sy’n adlewyrchu eu pwysigrwydd o fewn y sector ac fel rhan o dirlun diwylliannol ehangach Cymru.
This year sees the Awards return to the broadcast schedule which reflects their importance both within the sector and as part of Wales’ wider cultural landscape.
Bu’n flwyddyn o newid a symud o fewn y diwydiant, a gynrychiolir i raddau helaeth gan gynlluniau adleoli ein tri Darlledwr Cenedlaethol. Mae’n galonogol gweld camau cadarnhaol yn cael eu cymryd tuag at ffurfio canolbwynt creadigol o fewn ein prifddinas, lle gall cyfleoedd ddatblygu i gydweithio a lle gall arloesedd a chynhyrchiant ffynnu.
It has been a year characterised by change and movement within the industry, not least represented by our three National Broadcasters’ relocation plans. It’s encouraging to see positive steps being taken towards forming a creative hub within our capital, where opportunities for collaboration can develop and innovation and productivity can thrive.
Mae Cymru’n genedl sy’n ferw o dalent, sgiliau ac uchelgais – o fewn yr amgylchedd cywir gallwn dyfu ein diwydiant i fod y pwerdy cyfryngau gwirioneddol yr ydym i gyd yn gwybod y gallai fod.
Wales is a nation ripe with talent, skill and ambition - within the right environment we can grow our industry into the veritable media powerhouse we all know it can be.
Mae Grw ˆ p Gorilla yn falch o fod yn Noddwr Allweddol y Digwyddiad hwn a hoffem longyfarch pawb sy’n ymwneud â’r Seremoni Wobrwyo heno. Rydym yn edrych ymlaen at weld llawer o wynebau cyfarwydd a digon o wynebau newydd ffres yn camu i’r llwyfan ar y noson arbennig hon.
