have you ever experienced the sensation of traveling while staying at home?
“At home” invites us on a journey through the timeless and enchanting world of rare wines from the 1990s and 2000s. This collection is like descending into a cellar — a magnificent cellar built with passion. The passion of connoisseurs who, in their pursuit of excellence, have explored extraordinary terroirs and mastered exemplary viticulture.
Picture this: it’s a cold winter day. You’ve set the dining room, lit the fire, and are awaiting your friends. Lunch is prepared, filled with delicious dishes. You want to begin this warm gathering with something remarkable — something that breaks the usual conventions. You choose a Chablis, pure and vibrant, with beautiful acidity that awakens the palate. This game-changing bottle is the perfect foundation for a memorable aperitif.
To linger a little longer by the crackling fire, soothing and inviting, why not open a superb bottle — or perhaps a magnum — of Champagne? A Krug 1961, the king of champagne, with its complex secondary aromas, would pair beautifully with caviar and elevate the moment.
Once everyone has warmed up, thanks to the fire — and the warmth of good company — it’s time to raise the stakes with the first course. Since Burgundy white wine has already set the tone, let’s continue this dynamic with the Côte de Beaune. But what to choose? Villages, premiers crus, or grands crus? Young vintages or mature ones? Should you consult your friends and risk spoiling the surprise, or make the decision yourself? It’s a tough call. But your grands crus from the 2000s, still vigorous yet offering a glimpse of secondary aromas, will pair perfectly with the white-fleshed fish tartare you’ve prepared.
Then comes the second course. Burgundy continues to charm as the perfect matchmaker. What better choice than a Domaine de la Romanée-Conti grand cru to carry us forward? Do you venture into the 1950s, or stay in the 1990s? Another delightful dilemma. Alternatively, you might opt for a more recent BonnesMares or Musigny from Roumier, or perhaps an Echézeaux from Bizot. This time let’s make it a poll to select the ideal pairing for a creamy risotto infused with Burgundy black truffle.
The meal flows on, and the journey continues! Now, it’s time
to savor a traditional, mature cut of beef. The Rhône wines call to us: Hermitage, Côte-Rôtie, or Châteauneuf-du-Pape? Jaboulet’s legendary La Chapelle? E. Guigal’s exquisite La Landonne 2014? Or perhaps the universally celebrated Château Rayas? These are the beautiful dilemmas that a short winter journey around a warm table and a long meal can offer.
As the feast nears its end, no true epicurean would miss the cheese course. This is the perfect moment to introduce the Bordeaux bottle you’ve been saving for this very occasion. The choice was hard — left bank or right bank? Margaux? Mouton Rothschild? Haut-Brion? Or perhaps Petrus or Le Pin? Ah, the possibilities are endless, and entirely yours.
Before dessert, let’s revive an old tradition. Did you know that foie gras was once served after the main course as a delicate gastronomic delight? While this custom has faded, the sweet wines like Sauternes remain a cherished conclusion to any culinary journey. As a surprise, you serve foie gras from a small artisanal farm, paired with a Sauternes
— a Château d’Yquem , no less. The vintage? Somewhere between 1901 and 2007, of course. The options are plentiful, and each one is a treasure.
This, to me, is the essence of “Kipling” #9’s auction catalog — a wonderful journey condensed into a single day, filled with liquid treasures, all offered in a special auction on February 21st. I hope to one day share this kind of winter feast with you.
Yours truly, Camille

guide for bidders
online live bidding
Place your bids in real time through our online live bidding platform. Please register ahead of the date and connect to www.bagherawines.com on the day of the sale and follow the guide. B/Live, Baghera/wines’ live auction platform, will relay your bids and give you the opportunity to live the sale as if you were attending it in person. Feel the atmophere in the room, follow the auction’s excitement and place your bids at your convenience – your bids will be instantly relayed to the auctioneer.
B/Live is accessible from computers and mobile devices, all you need is to ensure that your connection is sufficent to support live video streaming. If not, you will still be able to bid live (without the video) as the current bid and next increment will be visible on the screen.
You will need to register at least 48h prior to the sale on www.bagherawines.com to ensure registration is complete before the sale, and confirmed. You will be able to enter the sale and place your bids at your convenience. Please note that credit controls apply on these bids.
absentee bids
Leave your absentee bids ahead of the sale on our website and online-catalogue. Connect to www.bagherawines.com.
You will need to register at least 48h prior to the sale on www.bagherawines.com to ensure registration is complete and your absentee bids are confirmed.
You may also give Baghera/wines instructions to bid on your behalf by writting to office@bagherawines.com. Our staff members will then try to purchase the lot(s) of your choice for the lower price possible. Please note this service is free, totally confidential and offered as a convenience to clients. Although our representative will make every effort, Baghera/wines will not be responsible for error or failure to execute bids.
collection
Lots will be made available for collection or shipping from March 3rd, 2025.
buyer’s premium
The maximum bid price that you provide during your bidding process is the hammer price only. If you are successful on a lot, a buyer’s premium of 22% will be added to the hammer price for each lot you buy. The successful bidder is responsible for any VAT that may arise on the hammer price and the buyer’s premium. VAT charges and refunds depend on the particular circumstances of the buyer. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ascertain and pay all taxes due. VAT is payable on the buyer’s premium and, for some lots, VAT is payable on the hammer price. In all circumstances Swiss law takes precedence.
successful bids
Successful bidders will be notified and invoiced within a few days after the sale.
