Baghera/wines an experts office

— Baghera/wines was established at the end of 2015 in Geneva by three passionate experts, who launched a specialized consultancy office exclusively dedicated to exceptional wines. Michael Ganne, Julie Carpentier and Francesco Lee joined forces, offering a new approach to high-end wine auctions, by placing cordiality and sharing at the very heart of the wine business. Since then, Baghera/wines have become the European leading fine wine auctioneer, offering amongst other rarities, the “Private cellar of Domaine Henri Jayer” in June 2018, the world’s most important wine auction ever. Alongside their auctions, the Baghera/wines team guides collectors in every dimension of highlighting a collection, focusing on tailor-made, one-to-one professional advice, outstanding wine sourcing and excellency. In 2019 Baghera/wines opened their office in Hong Kong. By early 2020, Baghera/wines will settle at the Beau-Rivage hotel in Geneva, opening alonsgide its new office, a Fine Wines exclusive Boutique and a private Club.

foreword

“ A mirror to our souls ” by michael ganne

“ Live  ! Live the wonderful life that is in you ! Let nothing be lost upon you. Be always searching for new sensations. Be afraid of nothing. ” Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray. — These words, written 130 years ago, are, I feel, as fitting today as they were then, and seem to be in tune with the wine enthusiasts and connoisseurs that we are. The delight experienced in discovering a vintage that will perfectly complement a particular dish, or celebrate a unique occasion, does not lie in the idea of hiding it away inside a safe. Rather, we live it, we experience it and entrust it to our memories. A snapshot, a picture to be cherished for life ! Each lot in this catalogue is moreover like a portrait – of a vintage to be rediscovered, of a terroir to be discerned, of a winegrower and his vision, of a wine to become warmly acquainted with. This wine journey represents the five collectors who embody this book. Five portraits, multifaceted as a kaleidoscope, one woman and four men, who have each expressed through their choices an identity in their collection, a part of their uniqueness, a part of themselves. Their collections reflect their personality and they recognise themselves therein. The bottle encapsulates a moment in eternity and represents, like a portrait, the mirror to our soul, an eternal youth. It also has to be said that fortunately some among us preserve preciously in our cellars, treasures which deserve a longer maturation. Whoever ignores the immense pleasure derived from an ancient vintage, owes it to

12

themself to live this experience. For each of these cellars, all the sine qua non conditions required to be included in this catalogue have been met, whether in terms of wine preservation due to controlled temperatures, verification of provenance, purchases made from reputable dealers. Each case has been opened and each bottle inspected before being photographed. This sale is also an opportunity for me to celebrate the zest for life of two dear friends who have recently departed to continue their journey elsewhere. David Elswood (1958 – 2019) was my mentor, from whom I learned my craft at Christie’s. He gave me my first gavel for my first auction in London and supported me during the launch of Baghera/wines. Dan Ohayon (1963 – 2019) is one of those people who enjoyed life to the full – and lived it 120% ! He was afraid of nothing and always open to the discovery of new tasting sensations. An epicurean with an unforgettable laugh, whose smile remains engraved in me forever, infusing his eternal energy and his pleasure of sharing. I will conclude by again quoting Dorian Gray, this hedonistic dandy : “ The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it ”. So be tempted ! Warmest regards, Michael

Wine & Music second edition

— This year’s second annual event combines two aspects of culture that are fundamentally alive, wine and music, blending them together in the promise of a unique evening. For the pleasure of enthusiasts and neophytes alike, “Wine & Music” offers the opportunity to savour outstanding wines selected by Baghera/ wines, to the accompaniment of wonderful music and food, in the course of an œnological and culinary tasting. — Our guest artist is the talented singer-songwriter, Thomas Dutronc. Trained in the pure tradition of gypsy jazz, Thomas, who comes from a family of accomplished musicians, is an admirer of Django Reinhardt and has four albums to his credit. He has performed at many of the greatest live music festivals. A wine enthusiast himself, Thomas is kindly honouring us with a concert that promises to be exhilarating ! The tasting, accompanied by the refined cuisine of the Michelinstarred restaurant Le Chat-Botté, will focus on a selection of wines of Clos de Vougeot 2015 from several different producers, for a celebration of the diversity of the micro-terroirs of Burgundy around the same appellation.

A private collection of Henri Jayer wines

The following lots were acquired during the historic auction “ The Heritage – the Ultimate Sale from the Private Cellar of Domaine Henri Jayer ” on June 17th 2018. The wines have been kept in the safety of our premises at the Geneva FreePort ever since this auction. For the record – these wines had never been removed from Henri Jayer’s cellar until they were escorted to Geneva FreePort for the June 2018 auction. Each bottle benefits from the Prooftag™ protection system, and the original wooden cases marked Domaine Henri Jayer were made exclusively for “ The Heritage – the Ultimate Sale from the Private Cellar of Domaine Henri Jayer ” auction. This is a unique chance to take possession of these rare Henri Jayer bottles with pristine provenance…
