MELODIC TRIUMPH

Mentors’ vocal duet outsings entrants with stirring unrequited love anthem

The College of Education clutched the champ as the vocal duet rendered an unrequited love melody during the MSU-GSC Musical Night, Intramurals 2023, at the University Quadrangle on October 6.

The golden duo, Josh Nicole Pepito, 4th year BSED Filipino, and Jazel Ree Noval, 4th year BSED Biology, sang “Kahit Kailan“ by South Borders, which tugged the people’s hearts, enacting that they still love each other despite her being transgender but cannot be together because she has embraced her identity more than before.

“Our rendition is original, and our concept is that I played a representation as an LGBTQIA.

Meron po dalawang magkaibigan na pinaglayo ng tadhana, na realize niya na trans pala siya, pero mahal niya parin siya, pero nangibabaw talaga kung sino siya, so di talaga sila pwede,” Pepito explained in an interview.

The College of Education (COED) toasts to this victory for a big leap in their last performance in the duet, garnering the 4th runner-up on intramurals last year.

stirring hearts

“Dili man ko trans pero kaagi pod ko anang bisan nagdugay na ang panahon kag daghan na nibag-o, palangga gyapon nimo siya, ga care ka gyapon saiyaha, relate kayko sailang kanta, nag sige nalang man

Roland Balolo, 2nd year BPED, shared about being relatable to the said piece as an audience in the said event.

While the Mentors secured the gold, competing with nine colleges, the Asteegs followed the podium, grabbing the silver, and the Tycoons obtained the bronze.

“We dedicate this to the College of Education, to our dean, Ma’am Maria Theresa Pilones na ever supportive jud,” Pepito expressed.

Defending champ COED incurs point deductions in vocal solo contest; COM seals gold

The College of Education

champion in last year’s vocal solo competition failed to defend its title and incurred a two-point deduction per judge during the Musical night at the university quadrangle, October 6.

A member of the musical night

committee, Sir Evann Keith Tabasa, explained the consensus reached by the three involved parties, including the committee chairperson, to implement a two-point deduction per judge for COEd’s vocal solo contingent.

“Number one, under time. Number two is binanggit kasi ‘yung college—name no’ng college,” Tabasa said.

While saddened by the outcome of the vocal solo competition, Hon. Frank Jeay Montebon, the president of the College of Education Students’ Organization (CESO), upheld the committee’s decision.

Montebon stated.

Meanwhile, the College of Medicine’s (COM) contingent, performing the track “Isa Pang Araw” by Sarah Geronimo, earned them a gold medal in the respective category.
