Chancy Aragasi turns emotional in torch lighting

COA hails champs in parade tilt, 5 years after last victory

Through their creative skills combined with determination, College of Agriculture (COA) proved their reaping skills as they bested 10 other teams during the parade and yell competition on Wednesday, October 4, claiming the trophy once again after eight years.

The reapers jumped high while wearing their smiles after emerging as the champion for the said tilt

in this year’s Intramurals, a feat that their college last achieved in 2018.

“Very happy kaayo mi kay pila na ka tuig wala jud na-champion ang Agri. This time, lahat nag-manifest. We worked hard for this,” said Kurt Rhen Ming, President of the College of Agriculture Students Society (CASS).

According to Ming, COA prepared for the competition through a series of conceptualizations and

divisions, which included the encouragement and management of people.

“We just worked hard, we did our part. Nag-focus ra jud mi sa among sarili to win this competition,” he stressed.

The reapers also bagged two other minor awards, after being hailed as the most creative contingent and the team with the best college shirt.

“Comparing it every year, mayroon ding level of high performance, best production. But this year, kami, na feel namin na hindi gano’n ka powerful.”

mass dance tilt as the event unfolded at the university quadrangle, October 4.

In an interview, Mr. Al-nezzar Ali, Ms. Evelou Villodres, and Ms. Maria Emileen Salaño, the three judges who also presided over last year’s mass dance competition, expressed their heightened expectations for this year’s performances as they anticipate that it would evolve as the year progresses.

“It’s better if the comparison should lie on the event every year being presented para fair ‘yung discussion. The MSU has its own merits; has its own powerful displays,” Ali remarked.

Ali further critiqued that there has been a deliberate focus on enhancing the dance aspect on this year’s performances, emphasizing the importance of a wellrounded performance.

MSU Celebrating Diversity: A Flavorful Glimpse into Today’s Golden Anniversary and Intramurals

Diversity not only fills our heart, but also our bellies. As MSUans dive into new food options, the vendors alike are embraced with inclusivity and openness — leaving an indelible mark that creates a welcoming and fulfilling environment!

In the vibrant celebration of Mindanao State University General Santos’ 50th Foundation Anniversary and Intramurals, we dive into the heart of the festivity through the eyes of Kyle Inocelda, a first-year student from the College of Business Administration and Accountancy.

“Nacater talaga nila ang mga estudyante kasi more on pastil lang talaga tayo dito.” (They really catered to all students because we are really fond of pastil here.) Kyle noted with enthusiasm.

Indeed, pastil runs in our blood! Yet indulging in new delicacies have made Kyle paint pictures of the excitement coursing through MSUans as they explore diverse food stalls offering an array of rice meals such as sisig with rice, garlic chicken with rice, siomai rice, and java rice. Paired with these are the refreshing beverages of iced coffees, milkteas, and fruit juices. The anticipation is palpable; vendors, much like the students, are bubbling with anticipation — creating a prelude of gastronomic delights.

As MSU General Santos marks its milestone, we go beyond the sports arena and permeate the air with the aroma of diverse cuisines and the warmth of a welcoming community. Our different perspectives and tastes in life converge to paint a canvas of a university that not only celebrates its rich history but also extends its arms to everyone, turning the Intramurals into a celebration of diversity, unity, and unforgettable flavors.

Golden Chismis

The celebration for MSU’s jubilee era has already begun, beaming rays of golden avenues for public utterances as the celebration decussates Intramurals, venting an infamous virtual clamor. Never can it be said Intramurals have come if there’s no ‘bardagulan’ in public pages and groups like BUHAY MSUAN-GENSAN glorifying bellicose patriots against other colleges. What could have been a fiesta of collaboration and an exhibition of personal prowess in this much-awaited year is gleaming gold, notably seen as a conflict honed through a new medium of communication.

An emerging issue pertinent to the constituents of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities (CSSH) and College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (CNSM) flocked to a Facebook group named Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-GenSan) Public Group, as a screenshot unveiled by a citizen pertaining to a CNSM constituent bombed CSSH majorettes, leaving a “kagiron” comment, giving MSUans a show of what really ‘bardagulan’ is. It is not shocking that the role of social media this year and the past years has transcended its essence for mere communication. Despite the fact that the virtual world is supposed to be a

public preference to extend sentiments about intramurals and a mode of documentation for every moment, the plague induced by thawing entities continues to infect and derail the very crux of this celebration.

Furthermore, toxicity has become rampant on social media, especially now that Intramurals are crisscrossing MSU’s golden year. Albeit the first day of intramurals, further issues are ascending: a post on the same Facebook page regarding a masked college copying the College of Education’s band and majorette initiative and the props of CSSH. This simply implies something; this day and the following days, social media’s role is the outlet for accusation with no certain basis, a conclusive platform to sprout perplexity among others and develop hatred towards everyone.

Indeed, social media plays a pivotal role throughout the life of Intramurals. MSUans may share their sentiments about their experiences, the unjust treatment they may have encountered in the event they joined, or how elated they are in the midst of their successes in this golden week. But if social media happens to be a cultivation of invasive movements that can cause obliteration among the bonds of colleges and

to whom they are connected, then the theme for this year’s intramurals, “SMART MSU-GENSAN: Celebrating Golden Years of Pursuing Academic Excellence, Creating Champion of Peace and Development”, would be hard to believe in and be materialized. Clearly, the golden anniversary, which was supposedly filled with glittering brilliance, and the spirit of Intramurals, which should have been upheld by the hands of every student, are blatantly tainted with the manifestations of plague-like creatures.

In the end, issues encountered in Intramurals never stop and never tire, but one thing is for sure: the intervention of social media is just an exacerbation, can be a proponent of clout-based toxic traction, and would deliver no solution at all. Let’s look back to why it all began, as posted by Prof. Mubarak Maliga Tahir of CSSH: that after all these things, we are one. Truly, the culture of intergenerational fighting for every Intramurals we instilled has rapidly made its way to the online world; thus, all the disputes and “golden chismis” can be settled in the most formal way, which is to internalize this year’s theme and take into account the golden lesson.
