BEYKENT'S GOT THE 'GREEN FLAG' Edirne Beykent Schools have been carrying out the Eco-School Project since the begining of 2012 – 2013 academic year. Finally, Beykent Schools got the 'Green Flag' which symbolizes the Eco Schools.

Coordinator of the project Miss KarataË› stated that Beykent School has been maintaining this project in order to rise the consciousness of students about environmental issues. She also stated that Green Flag put so much responsibility on our shoulders but we do our best in order not to lose the Green Flag. Beykent Eco Teams tried so hard and carried out many

activities about the environment in order to obtain the Green Flag. Now, Green flag is waving in Beykent. Of course, this is not our final destination. Our environment-friendly activities will continue.

REDECORATION OF THE COMENIUS CORNER We redecoreted our ECO&ART Comenius Corner in order to reflect the acquisitions that we obtained in Poland. The new Comenius Corner really attracted the attention of the school community. Preparing or redecorating a new corner is an entertaining way of sharing new acquisitions with the students.

We used some waste materials while preparing the Comenius Corner. We completed our activities for Eco&Art Comenius Project in 2012-2013 academic year by redecorating the notice board. We will continue our activities for Eco&Art Comenius Project in 2013-2014 academic year.

HOW TO PROTECT THE EVIRONMENT IN 10 STEPS We prapared booklets about 'How to protect environment in 10 steps' and distrubuted them in the school within the context of ECO&ART Comenius Project. The booklets includes many tips and clues about how to protect the environment. We strongly believe that such kind of avtivities can make difference for the future of our planet and next generations. The booklet which were prepared by the project students is not only the part of Eco&Art Comenius Project but also is a social responsibility project.

HOW TO BE ECO FRIENDLY Cars produce a lot of greenhouse gasses. You could also use greenhouse gasses Plant a tree. Trees turn harmful CO2 into oxygen Power down. Turn off your cell phones, computers, TVs, lights, and video games for 350 minutes. That saves a lot of energy Use CFL light bulbs. They are very energy efficient, and save you money in the long run.

Recycle. The materials will turn into new stuff and we wont have to make more.

Turn off the tap. Try to use less water for cleaning, washing, and drinking.

Use environmentally friendly alternatives. Instead of using toxic cleaning chemicals, try to use just plain old vinegar, or an Eco-friendly alternative.

Stop spraying. Pesticides and insect repellent are highly toxic, and can poison and kill many animals.

Use the poop. You're pets waste can be a very powerful fertilizer in growing plants. Just pick it up and bury or smear it in your garden.

Pick it up. The litter you pick up can help save animals' lives.

Go organic. Using organic foods can improve your health, and stop harmful pesticides and fertilizers from being sprayed into our water Collect rain water. Put a rain barrel below your gutter to collect clean water and help save tap water and money just don't drink it without boiling.

Garden. The plants you plant will not only feed you, but it it'll save you from the car ride to the supermarket, and the fruit will be totally organic!

Unplug. When you aren't using your toaster, blender, food processor, and other appliances unplug them to save power.

Mow sparingly. Mowers produce a lot of emissions, and grass is good for the environment. Or you could buy a push mower, or an electric mower both are environmentally safe Compost. Make a compost bucket with the information at and fill it with organic waste like apple cores, banana peels or eggshells.

Repel the invaders. Pull out some out of the invasive plants. They choke out native plants and kill the native ecology.

Get real. If you have a tank pet, like a fish or a turtle, give him real plants in his aquarium/terrarium instead of synthetic plants.

Dispose cleanly. If you have to use disposable cups or plates, buy the biodegradable kind, to save space in landfills.

Walk on the other side. If you're printing a two or more page paper, print the first page, turn it over, put it back in the “paper in� slot, and use the other side.

Don't burn. Even though a fire is a nice way to spend a winter evening, the smoke is bad for air quality.

STOP WILDLIFE CRIME In 50 years of conservation, we have never seen wildlife crime on such a scale. Wildlife crime is now the most urgent threat to three of the world's best-loved species—elephants, rhinos and tigers.

The global value of illegal wildlife trade is between $7.8 billion and $10 billion per year. It is a major illicit transnational activity worldwide—along with arms, drugs and human trafficking. High-level traders and kingpins are rarely arrested, prosecuted, convicted or punished for their crimes.

Even more worrying, these species cannot survive high levels of poaching for long.
