Kia Kaha is a short, independent documentary focusing on the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquake. The film shares the personal stories of four Cantabrians, their experiences living with aftershocks and their hopes for the future of their city. Kia Kaha was originally made as a major project for the UTS Media Arts and Production degree. The film was shot on location in Christchurch in July 2011 and completed in Sydney in November 2011. Since completion, Kia Kaha has had a tremendous response, receiving overwhelming positive feedback from both sides of the Tasman. For 2012, Kia Kaha will be making its way to festivals across Australia, New Zealand and possibly further abroad!

A sinking darkness still grips the heart of Christchurch city – its CBD powerless and in accessible since the powerful earthquakes that struck in September 2010 and February 2011. The wire fences that still frame the city are a constant reminder to Cantabrians that their hometown is still in a broken state of limbo. Amidst the destruction, the resounding voices of New Zealand have cried Kia Kaha: Be Strong. Ten months and more than 7000 aftershocks later, four residents share their stories of life in the aftermath of the quakes
