THE DESIRE TO CREATE IS ONE OF THE DEEPEST LONGINGS OF THE SOUL.

Problem: The client desired a more open floor plan with increased

cabinet and countertop space. Their current kitchen included a peninsula that cut right through the middle of the space and caused a limitation of movement and gathering area. They host regularly and requested for a larger refrigerator, wine storage, and a double oven to accommodate for frequent visitors. The clients cabinets and appliances were outdated and the kitchen had a very bland design. They have a very modernistic style and requested the design to follow that.

Solution: To address the issue of the peninsula eliminating space a

large island was incorporated which created much more walkable area in the kitchen. This also helped with adding more countertop and cabinet space. The necessity for more storage was also resolved by an addition of two tall cabinets and increased base and wall cabinetry. A new “dry bar area with a wine fridge was added as requested. All new appliances were installed including a larger refrigerator and stacked double ovens. Sleek, white cabinetry with an olive green island as a focal point brought this kitchen from the uninteresting design to the modern style the client proposed.

Drury Design Kitchen and Bath Studio is a team of professional residential designers that has been offering a client-focused design approach for more than twenty-five years. They are recognized as one of the finest examples of Chicago residential interior design. With the help of the design staff and installation professionals, their client’s custom design needs are brought to life. My internship position with this company provided me with an in-depth look at residential interior design. I gained experience in producing drawings in AutoCAD, going on measures at job sites, and creating installation and final packets for the designers and installers. I obtained knowledge on various vendors, hardware, cabinet lines, and materials. I would like to thank Jim and Gail Drury, Keri Pryde, and Kelly Naus for their mentorship throughout my internship. I am extremely grateful to have been given this opportunity with such an amazing company and feel it helped me greatly in my journey in the field of interior design.
