Artist Profile: Llewellyn Ash
Llewelyn has always been connected with his surroundings. When not creating a new work in the studio, he’s generally in nature and more often than not surfing waves off the South Australian coast, a lifestyle which inspires his striking glass designs.

Art began in the home for Llewelyn with both parents being artists. Glen Ash is well-known for his oil painting and Janet Ayliffe is a celebrated water colour painter and print maker. Growing up in the Adelaide Hills enriched his experience of natural flora and fauna and from a young age he started drawing the animals he was surrounded by. Surfing then became a major part of his journey, moving down the South Australian coastline along every peninsula. It was only fitting to fill his drawing books with images of the ocean, its sea life and the natural beach landscapes. With a background in printmaking and etching, studying at the University of South Australia in 2008 posed new techniques and challenges. Ultimately this is where Llewelyn was introduced to his passion and love, glass. Being guided and mentored by Gabrielle Bisetto, he created his own unique and distinctive style using the graphic qualities of line to express his ideas.
Honoured as a JamFactory Associate, Llewelyn’s work has been exhibited nationwide and his achievements include a Design Institute of Australia Award. He currently works as Commissions Manager of JamFactory’s Glass Studio.
