Three night itinerary
Southern Ocean Lodge offers a complete Kangaroo Island experience, blending pristine nature, contemporary surrounds and world-class local dining to create an unforgettable sense of place. Guests are presented with a personalised itinerary upon arrival including the lodge’s signature guided excursions, designed to explore the must-see sights of ‘Australia’s Galapagos’. Signature experiences are included in the tariff and are provided on an intimate shared basis with fellow guests at scheduled times. Private experiences can be arranged at additional cost subject to availability.
Three Night Classic SOL
The following represents an indicative experience over three nights. Many factors influence the delivered itinerary including flight arrival and departure times, pre-booked activities, guide and vehicle availability, weather conditions and seasonality. Any special arrangements made in advance or once at the lodge will be crafted within a custom itinerary ensuring the very best experience of both lodge and island.
Day 1 Welcome
Arrive on Kangaroo Island and travel to the lodge where a warm welcome awaits. Seated in the Great Room with its iconic suspended fireplace there’s time to check-in, chilled drink in-hand, before dining for lunch in the lodge restaurant.
Day 1 Afternoon
Join the lodge guide on the Coastal Clifftop Walk, an easy hike traversing the limestone bluffs and learn about the hardy flora and fauna and resilience of the Australian bush.
All-inclusive
A stay at the lodge is generously inclusive of all dining, help-yourself bar stocked with premium beverages, in-suite bar, signature experiences and airport transfers. Guests are invited to enjoy the lodge as their home away from home. Find out more »

Check in / Airport transfers
Check-in time is 2pm. Where possible, flexibility with early check-in will be provided. The lodge operates complimentary airport transfers connecting with scheduled flights to Kangaroo Island Airport shared with fellow guests. Private transfers can be arranged for an additional charge.

Day 1 Evening
Dine in the relaxed ambience of the restaurant. Chef’s four-course menu is innovatively crafted to lead guests on a gastronomic charter of the region’s finest produce, paired with a diverse selection of Kangaroo Island and South Australian wines.
Day 2 Morning
Breakfast in the restaurant is a relaxed affair served with a spectacular view of the Southern Ocean. Appetite sated, set off on the Wonders of Kangaroo Island half-day expedition exploring the vast frontier of Flinders Chase National Park.
Day 2 Afternoon
Meet Koalas and Kangas in their own neighbourhood at the Hanson Bay Sanctuary and later, soak up the history of the early settlers at Grassdale with a drink from the pop-up bush bar.
Day 2 Evening
Share the day’s experiences over sunset drinks in the Great Room. A daily-changing four-course dinner menu champions local and regional ingredients, carefully matched with local wines. Alternatively, peruse the premium selection on offer in the walk-in cellar.

Day 3 Morning
It’s time for a safari! A morning encounter with the resident colony of Australian sea lions at Seal Bay offers an experience reminiscent of the Galapagos.
Day 3 Afternoon
Step back in time and discover a labyrinth of sinkholes and caverns in the subterranean Kelly Hill Caves with guided commentary and dynamic lightshow.
Day 3 Evening
A Taste of SA invites guests to explore the diversity of South Australia’s wines during a guided sampling session in the cellar. Afterwards, dine for dinner in the lodge restaurant.

Day 4 Morning
Rise early for a self-guided walk or succumb to the comfort of Baillie Bed and watch the sunrise from beneath the covers, freshly made cuppa in reach.

Hanson Bay Beach
Wander along the lodge’s raised boardwalk and onto the windswept shore of Hanson Bay. Spot sea birds scuttling along the sand, pass sea caves sprouting fossilised tree trunks and discover the pristine cove of Hanson Bay Beach where a cool dip is optional!
Bespoke Experiences
Tailor a special interest itinerary by adding an optional activity including an interactive birds of prey presentation at the Raptor Domain, visiting the Kangaroo Island Wilderness Park to cuddle a koala and meeting producers at the source along the KI Producers Trail.
