A Kinship Christmas!

T

he Kinship Christmas was a huge success this year thanks to our amazing partnerships with Biltmore Baptist Church, The Tack Room, and 96.5 The Mix Radio Station. The Kinship program was able to provide around 60 Kinship Children in Buncombe County with Christmas presents. A big thank you to our partnerships for showing the true meaning of Christmas!

Biltmore Baptist Church Christmas Biltmore Baptist and the Ron Howard and Pastor Sam McLamb’s Connect Group donated personalized gifts for Kinship Children from their individual wish lists again this year through Angel Tree. The gifts were beautifully hand wrapped from the amazing people in the Connect Group so the caregivers did not have to worry about the kids seeing the gifts. We are so blessed to have Biltmore Baptist Church partnering with us, and thank you for the bottom of our hearts.

96.5 The Mix 96.5 The Mix, a local radio station here in Asheville went above and beyond this Christmas. 96.5 The Mix not only supplied 35 of our Kinship children in Buncombe County with Christmas presents, but also put on a HUGE Christmas is for Kids Christmas party. All the families in the Kinship program were invited. The Christmas party had tons of activities for the kids including a Build-a-Bear Workshop, ice cream, hair stying station, craft center (they made candy cane reindeer), inflatables, video game station, and of course Santa! We want to thank the crew from 96.5 The Mix for everything they did to make Christmas special for the Kinship Program!

What is The Bair Foundation & What is Kinship?

The Bair Foundation is a child and family ministry with nearly 50 years of experience in the field of child welfare.

Our Asheville office has been providing therapeutic foster care to local abused and neglected youth since 2009.

We recruit and retain quality homes in Asheville and the surrounding areas that are able to provide structure, stability, safety, and love to children in the foster care system. The Bair Foundation actively recruits teen homes and families who are willing to take sibling groups, as that is where the need is greatest. The objective of our ministry is to strengthen families and ultimately provide permanency for these children, either through returning home, foster-toadopt, legal guardianship, or kinship care.

Kinship Care is a program designed to help support a child who resides outside of his or her own home, either temporarily or for the long term, with a relative, godparents, stepparents or any adult who has a “kinship bond” with a child. Kinship Care is an option that allows a child to grow into adulthood in a familiar family environment instead of being placed in foster care.

THANK YOU Kinship families for providing transitional care for your “kin” while their biological parents complete the steps necessary so their children can return home.

The Tack Room Millie Lewis is the definition of a person with a servant heart and wanting to give unto others. Millie is the owner of the Tack Room located in Black Mountain.

The Tack Room is a closet ministry that helps our Kinship families and many people around Buncombe County.

Not only does she supply families with clothing, she also has baby toys, books, basic hygiene items, and much more.

Millie makes going to the Tack Room fun, exciting and enjoyable with the way she has decorated and the energy that she brings. Millie is so caring and humble and makes you feel as if your family when your there. If you need to sit and relax while your there Millie will take time and talk, listen and pray with you.

Millie is a blessing to the Kinship Program and her vision and love that she puts into this ministry shows and carries to every one she meets. The Kinship Program wants to thank you for all that you are doing and are continuing to do, your work does not go unnoticed.

Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Thrift Store Locations

Get Your Winter Clothing at the Western Carolina Rescue Ministries Super Thrift Store!

The Super Thrift Store gives the Kinship Providers in Buncombe County’s Kinship Program a credit of $25.00 a month that goes towards clothing needs. All you have to do is tell the cashier you are a Kinship Provider and your last name at check out.

Cakes 4 Kids!

Biltmore Baptist has been a long time partner with the Kinship Program, and we have been so grateful for their love and support over the years. The Ron Howard Support Group headed up by Ron and Juanita Sutphin are in charge of a ministry called Cakes 4 Kids, where they make sure our Kinship Children get a lovely cake for their birthday! Their cakes are beautiful cakes with colors or designs that are specific to that child on their birthday.

If you have a Kinship Child in your home with a birthday coming, please contact the Kinship Care Coordinator, Katelyn Redden, and let her know that you are interested (828 350 5197).

(That Only Takes 3 Ingredients!)

Ingredients: 1 tub of whipping topping 1 egg 1 box of yellow cake mix Powedered Sugar (optional) Directions: Preheat your oven to 350 Combine the whipping topping, egg and box of cake mix, using a spoon in a mixing bowl.

By the spoonful, (roll the dough into the powdered sugar - optional) and place on a cookie sheet.

Place the cookies in the oven and bake for 12 minutes.

Let cool & enjoy!

Immunizations: A Shield of Protection

Tips to Avoid Getting Sick This Winter: 1. Keep Warm

The flu arrives each year leaving many people wishing that they had followed the advice of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and gone to get a flu shot! The flu shot is recommended by the CDC for individuals who are 6 months and older. The flu shot is available at local health care providers and local pharmacies (Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid).

You can also request a flu vaccine at the Immunization Clinic.

Talk to your doctor or call the Immunizations Clinic at 828250-5096 with any questions you might have about immunizations or to find vaccination records.

Getting immunized is easy! Our Buncombe County Health and Human Services Immunization Clinic is located at 53 South French Broad Avenue in downtown Asheville (across the street from United Way). Our Immunization Clinic offers walk-in immunizations between the hours of 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Monday-Friday).

2-1-1 service is free, confidential and available 24/7 to speakers of all languages. Whether you want to find or give help, trained referral specialists are available to answer your call and identify the right resources for you.

As you and the kiddo’s look for something to do on the weekend, keep in mind that Macaroni Kid is a great resource for some local activities that are going on in your community! Macaroni Kid is a free weekly newsletter and website that delivers news on all the kid and family friendly events going on locally.
