There’s HOPE The Cruz Wellness Society is a small non-profit organization established on August 23rd, 2012 and registered under Barbadian Law as a legal charity on September 20th, 2012. One of our charities’ commitments is to develop strong social partnerships in order to ensure it can provide its services effectively, and we therefore look forward to the opportunity to work with your organization. The Cruz Wellness Society was conceived to help combat a growing problem in our society. The founding members observed a significant weakness in the structure of the average family units, especially in low-income households. There was a strong presence of abuse, both physical and mental, disharmony and suffering. In the year following its founding, Cruz Wellness Society conducted research into this phenomenon and concluded that the level of personal development/growth of each individual in the household was the main determinant of the state of the family unit. Furthermore, it specifically impacted on income and income-earning potential, educational accomplishments, inter-family compassion, communication, health and general wellness. Further research also determined that the poor nature of these family units also had a negative effect on the surrounding community and on a larger scale the country and its culture. This in turn affects the economic state of the country by placing needless limitations on efficiency and progress.

Tanika has also done numerous Fashions shows for BMEX, Absolute Fashion Week, Barbados Fashion Week and has graced a few runways in Jamaica, Antigua and Guyana. In the little spare time she has, she enjoys going to the beach, movies and hanging out with her friends. She believes the main issues are that we tend to sweep things under the rug and never speak out, so she decided it was necessary for her to find a way to highlight this epidemic and came up with a project which she entitled “Be a Voice of Hope -SPEAK OUT!�; she is using the Miss Humanity Pageant as her foundation to promote her fight against Domestic Abuse. The Campaign was conceptualized with the aim to inspire young men and women to stand up and speak out against Domestic Violence. Her mission is to sensitize mainly the younger generation about the different forms of abuse and provide a helping hand for persons that may want to assist a family member or friend that may be in an abusive relationship. This project intends to take various stages with first launching with a poster campaign that will be posted in various schools reminding them to speak out as well as awareness through social media. There is hope that permission will be grant to visit various summer camps around Barbados and provide workshops that sensitize persons on the issue of Domestic Abuse. By depicting abuse using various mechanisms such as theatre and games, training our youth on how to be able to identify the signs of domestic abuse as well as how to conduct themselves when faced with these signs and finally to encourage persons to share their experiences and stories in the aim of letting victims know that there is hope and what are their options if and when they need it, it is hoped the epidemic can be stemmed. In conclusion of phase one, a march is planned to bring awareness to the masses. This march will be done by the youth of the nation and will showcase dance, music and participants will be encouraged to Speak Out on Domestic Abuse on the placards they will carry. Pamphlets will also be distributed to persons along the route. Tanika is willing to work with any organization that shares the same passion for this cause and extends an invitation to anyone that is willing to join in her awareness programme.

ORLANDO BLENMAN Orlando Blenman, now 56 has been in the body building arena for the past 38 years. Having begun his body building career at the age of 18, Orlando has since been extremely passionate about the sport dedicating his time to not only competing himself, but also training others who have a desire to follow in his footsteps. The Mr. Teenager, Mr. Bridgetown, Mr. St Michael, West Coast Junior and Senior, Mr. Speightstown Junior and Senior as well as the Bernard Sealy Classic, are among those competitions Orlando has participated in and won throughout the years. Now the proud owner of the Sundown Gym, located Tudor Road, Bridgetown; Orlando has brought under his wings the likes of Vicky Bowman, who won the National Women Body Figure, Martinez Durant winner of the Darcy Beckles Classic, Devon Franklin winner of Nationals as well as Quantano Parris who copped second place in the Novice competition. Orlando being a veteran in the field and having dedicated his time to the training of others, he was asked what he thinks about body building today - immediately he lamented ‘very poor’! He went further to indicate that the competitors today are afraid of each other, and that the young body builders today don’t like to work hard. He also exclaimed that body builders today utilize too much steroids which accelerates the deterioration of their bodies instead of going the natural route. He expressed similar sentiments when he was questioned about the prizes received by competitors upon winning. However, despite his present view of body building in Barbados today, he endorses the Nationals competition, the Darcy Beckles Classic and the Bridgetown Novice competition. He also hopes to see more junior competition shows for both male and female, better prizes and that every major show has a novice and junior show element to it.

Hi my name is Jerome Greenidge and I would like to show you what is the fastest most effective way of losing weight and it doesn't require you starving yourself. Well – not exactly. Let me explain. Intermittent Fasting (in case you don’t already know) is essentially not eating or drinking anything that contains calories for a set time period. Generally this time period is between 16 and 36 hours. Believe it or not, research actually proves that your metabolism won’t slow down for up to 36 hours of fasting. And even though we’ve been told over and over again if we don’t feed ourselves every 3 hours our metabolic rate will slow down, it’s simply not true. When applied properly, fasting is not only great for your metabolism, it’s also a killer way to break bad habits or shock your body mentally and physically. Physically, it helps drain your muscle and liver of glycogen by forcing your body to use up stored calories and energy. It also lowers insulin, increases growth hormone release, and raises catecholamine levels by ramping up the sympathetic nervous system (SNS). So in many ways intermittent fasting actually “mimics” high intensity exercise. Every hormonal trigger activated by intermittent fasting helps you burn more fat and preserve muscle. Mentally, it can break you of bad emotional habits or negative neuroassociations you may have with food and provide you with new found energy and focus. As always, with any great tactic, more is not better. If you abuse this strategy your body may start shedding lean muscle to slow down the metabolism and the end result is no weight loss at all. Essentially, your body thinks you are starving yourself so it will have to use amino acids from precious muscle tissue to survive. Research shows this only happens if you overdue it. After using this technique for over two years now, I’ve found that the 16/8 (16 hours of fasting, 8 hours fed) protocol works best and is easiest to adhere to. For example, you could start your fast at 8pm and end your fast with an 11am or noon workout the following day. YES, you’re skipping breakfast! I know. It’s unheard of isn’t it? :-) Now don’t freak out about this. I guarantee it’s a lot easier to follow
and more effective than you can ever imagine. And believe it or not, there’s a whole subculture around the world following this method with unheard of results. Myself included. I personally start my fast at 10pm and workout at 1pm so I’m eating my post workout meal and breaking my fast right at 2pm, which is the 16 hour mark. So I eat 3 or 4 meals between 2pm and 10pm, then I fast from 10pm until 2pm the next day. There are many days where I work out first thing in the a.m. at 6 or 7am. I just make sure to consume 10 grams of amino acids before and after. I wait until 1 or 2pm until I break my fast with the largest meal of the day. It doesn’t have to be exactly 16 hours either. It could be 17 or 18 hours. Even 14 to 15 hours is recommend for women, but it’s not going to hurt you either way. Just try to stick with the 16/8 protocol as closely as possible. Remember to consume 5 to 10 grams of amino acids every 3-4 hours during your fast and make sure to consume 10 grams of amino acids directly before and after exercise. This will help prevent hunger pangs, preserve muscle, and make the whole fasting process more tolerable, especially if you’re a beginner. I know I’ve mentioned this a couple times already and I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but this REALLY helps. The first couple days can be tough and the amino acids will help you get through it and keep your muscles happy. Remember, during the fasting process you’ll keep insulin super low, naturally boost fat burning growth hormone, have more energy, get more done, give your digestive system and body a break from frequent feeding, and burn a lot more fat. Blood flow to fat cells increases (blood flow is critical in order for fat to be burned, especially stubborn fat) Concentrations of epinephrine and norepinephrine go up (these hormones have been shown to help “break apart” stubborn fat cells) Metabolic rate goes up slightly, insulin levels remain very low (this sets up a fat burning environment inside your body) Free fatty acids are released for energy (so more fat can be burned) Remember, after intense exercise the body is highly sensitive to nutrient uptake and protein synthesis. So after you ride the fat burning wave for about 30 to 45 minutes, you should immediately eat your largest meal of the day.

protocol, that I NEVER got hungry anymore. In other words, over time fasting has become a lot easier and skipping breakfast doesn’t even faze me anymore. So I did some research on this phenomenon I was experiencing and I discovered that we can actually “retrain” our hunger hormone Ghrelin. Simply put (to save you from the mental agony), Ghrelin is the hormone that controls your body’s hunger response to food. It’s secreted when you’re about ready to eat. In other words, you can reprogram Ghrelin to respond at a different time of the day. This process only take a few weeks (sometimes less) with intermittent fasting. Also, Ghrelin is a potent stimulator of growth hormone. So if you combine the growth hormone release that occurs naturally during fasting with your body’s ability to “retrain” Ghrelin, you get a potent one-two GH punch.
With this plan, you get fat-burning during one long, 16-hour stretch of the day and lean muscle building with recovery during the 8-hour feeding stretch. This can easily be manipulated into one long 24 hour stretch of fat loss by manipulating macro-nutrient intake. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do for 10 days straight. Rinse and repeat. I also want to give you a quick heads up on a few minor side effects of this approach. First, you may experience the chills and feel your body temperature drop during the fast like I mentioned above. Also, when I get extremely lean (below 8 or 9%), I’ll typically bust into a sweat the minute I break my fast with a meal. It’s wild to see how the body responds to fasting and fed states. You might also experience some hunger pangs at first. Consuming things like bullion (cut this out the last five days of this plan because of sodium), black coffee, no calorie green or black tea and even water will help, but I’ve found that the amino acids really do the trick. Other Hormonal Theories About Intermittent Fasting I noticed after a few weeks of using the 16/8 intermittent fasting
(If you love breakfast food (like me), just move it to the afternoon. Just think about the actual meaning of breakfast? “Break-Fast”. It doesn’t HAVE to be right when we wake up or in the morning. I cook up omelets, turkey sausage, breakfast potatoes and even healthy pancakes in the middle of the afternoon or at night when I’m fasting earlier in the day. Obviously starches have to be limited for this particular plan, but you get the idea.) Final thoughts on intermittent fasting the first couple weeks of fasting, whether you do it for 10 days or just decide to use it a few times a week for health reasons (which I highly recommend), is the hardest. Initially, fasting seems like a big pain in the ass, but remember to focus on the reward. You might have to sacrifice if you have an obsession with food or eating every 2 to 3 hours, but I considered it a welcome break from the burden of having to eat all the time. Is intermittent fasting easy? Initially no. Is it worth it? A big fat YES. And intermittent fasting becomes a LOT easier after the first few times. Like I said, I’ve been using it personally and with a lot of my local clients for over two years and we actually look forward to our fasting days. Even though it requires some sacrifice, it actually becomes really fun when you understand how to properly apply it. Plus, the fat loss results from intermittent fasting are ridiculous. Her first love, writing, quickly became a focal point for her and on the advice of her thirteen year old daughter she joined the Artista Network and entered the Poets’ Rendezvous. With much hesitation, she posted a poem and waited. What she found in her inbox was totally unexpected. DeCarlo A professor of Black American Literature had recently lost his only son in a tragic biking accident. He buried himself in his work and his research for his new book. He had been advised, by his students no less, to troll the social media, especially Artista Network and get a feel for the many poetry groups and their activities. He signed into the first poetry group he came upon – The Poets’ Rendezvous, what he found there would prove to send him off kilter for quite some time. A fungal infection of the nail or onychomycois is more common with increasing age. It is often seen in men and individuals with circulatory problems or diabetes. Excessive wet work and warm sweaty conditions can contribute to infections of toe and fingernails. Untreated Tinea (ring worm) infections on the hands/feet and nail trauma can be precursors to infection. Signs of a nail infection are;
from the crumbly end of the nail being sent to the lab for culture and analysis. Few infections respond to topical antifungal applications in practice. Oral antifungal treatment is usually required for 2 to 3 months. Infrared lasers are now being used successfully but are not available in Barbados. Removal of the nail is a desperate last resort.

Despite this temporary delay in her journey, Sherece’s newly found spiritual path, attributed to her development and advancement. Studying and indulging in the Torah her aspiration took flight and after conceiving her first son Oshay and coming to an understanding of who she was, Sherece joined the Richard Stoute Teen Talent Competition in 2012. Serenading the crowd with the Best Selling 1994 hit of the Late Whitney Houston (I Will Always Love You) and the Billboard hit (Saving All My Love) which was released in 1985, Sherece became the 1st Runner Up. Though, unaware of her range, Sherece blasted her voice with confidence. Her delivery of these two hits was conveyed with much emotion, making her well known for her performance of the former. Founded in 1981, the Barbados Chess Federation (BCF) has been in existence for over 30 years. Despite a seemingly short period, Chess has been played in Barbados since the days of settlement - record of National Championships in 1919. Later in 2001, the BCF went a step further to become incorporated as the governing body for Chess in Barbados. Today, the BCF is lead by President Rohan Waithe, who has spearheaded the operations of the BCF since January 2009. Under his leadership, the BCF hosted a range of events including the Heroes Day International tournament. BCF also recently won CAC Juniors Pan Am Scholastic and placed 2nd in the Sub Zonal. For the balance of 2014, BCF aims to be involved in quite a number of activities and events locally, regionally and internationally
Beyond these activities, the BCF also possesses a passion for the community. As such, the Federation has created an environment where Chess amateurs and novices can learn to play and participate in Chess Demos. This event is held annually in Bridgetown, Barbados and also within various communities. In the past BCF also featured an exhibition at Coverley, Barbados; as part of their ‘Community Give Back’ drive. Lastly, BCF in their efforts to infiltrate the academic arena spearheads an extensive school programme for students at the primary school level through to tertiary level education. Malissa Alanna was born in the Island of Barbados on August 12, 1995. Her father is Barbadian and her mother is British. Malissa is also the middle child of two sisters. From as far back as she can remember Malissa wanted to be a singer and songwriter. To Malissa, music has always been her thing! At the tender age of nine Malissa penned her first song “I Remember” and has since gone on to write many songs. She has shied away from the genres of music most teenagers would consider singing and concentrated on the country/pop genre, something unusual for a teenager born and raised in the Caribbean! Women are the backbone of our society. Globally, women of color in particular, continually work long and hard for equal pay, equal rights and the inalienable right to vote. Behind every good man is a great woman, a woman behind the scenes keeping it all together, oftentimes by a thread. We are the vessel which brings forth human life. We are there through the thick and thin, the lean and the plenty, juggling several balls in the air – the ball of finances, homeschool teacher, chef, nursemaid, wife, mother, lover and friend. Women are physically and emotionally strong beyond belief, sometimes to our detriment; but it is built into our DNA, for our courage and strength comes from the sweat of our ancestors who toiled in the fields from sun-up to sun-down. There are women across the globe, even young girls, who are tasked with being a single parent, the sole support of their family and extended family, and through their endurance and tenacity, they must find a way to succeed. Dr. Anita Davis-DeFoe is all about empowering women to be independent, especially those affected by economic challenges in underserved nations. Dr. Anita has a passion and desire to create a way for women to be profitable in the marketplace through social enterprise by creating a global network around the world. Social Enterprise (social entrepreneurship) refers to business ventures operated by non-profits, whether they are societies, charities, or co-operatives. These businesses sell goods or provide services in the market for the purpose of creating a blended return on investment, both financial and social. During her travels to Africa, she has seen firsthand how hard women work to support their families through crafts, such as beautiful woven baskets, pottery, fabrics, jewelry and batiks. These items are produced by hand, using ancient traditions passed down from generation to generation. With every stitch or stroke of a painter’s brush, the products are infused with love. Dr. Anita wants to help them capitalize on the range of fashion and crafts they create so it can be available to the larger marketplace. She notes, “Poor people selling to poor people is not going to make a difference, this will not end generational poverty. Making profits that can be used to improve quality of life and offer access to education is what will change their lives.” Today, Dr. Anita is creating cooperatives with women in Nigeria, Ghana and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The effort is called Bese Saka Global – an initiative to bring people of all nations together through business enterprise development and collective economic development endeavors selling a variety of products. in the global marketplace to afford them an opportunity to get out of poverty. Dr. Anita comes from a long line of trailblazers. One of her great aunts on her father’s side of the family, Aunt Betty, had roots back to West Africa and was sold into slavery to the Davidson Plantation in Davidson, North Carolina. In the book, “Footprints on the Rough Side of the Mountain,” penned by Oscar DePriest Hand Sr., and Julia Neal Sykes, the authors had a desire to preserve the history of Blacks in the building of the city of Belmont, North Carolina, most notably, the legacy of Aunt Betty. The authors share that as a slave, Aunt Betty drove a wagon filled with bricks made by her brother, Tom Davis, which were used to build Davidson College. Tom Davis was Dr. Anita’s great, great grandfather. Once free, Aunt Betty and her family became the first black settlers in the town of Belmont, North Carolina. One of the first signs of her fierce independence was when she shortened her name from Davidson to Davis, shedding the slave name and claiming a last name of her own.
Her parents were both college graduates, who in spite of tough odds and through hard work and determination, graduated from Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina becoming educators. Her mother, Lovie Neal Davis, taught elementary school for over 30 years and her father, Walter Franklin Davis, Jr., a school principal, was the first African American City Councilman in Belmont, NC. With the embodiment of her parents’ nurturing, love and support, Dr. Anita followed their lead as a teacher, educator, and community advocate. She has taught Organizational Development, Principles of Systems, Leadership, Performance Management and Strategic Planning courses on the university level in the United States and the Caribbean. She has extensive experience providing technical assistance to organizations in the areas of team building; process and change management; training; fund development; as well as the diagnosis and resolution of operational, service delivery and programmatic challenges.

Find mentors.
Good mentors will make your dreams achievable more quickly. The best mentors are those who have done what you are trying to accomplish before, successfully, and who are helping you for friendship or selffulfillment reasons. They may be formal Board of Advisor or Director members, friends, colleagues, or interested peers. Service providers can be mentors as well, but be careful, as there is always a potential for a conflict of interest when someone is trying to sell you something and offering advice at the same time. Ethical advisors will be able to navigate this conflict, but the world abounds with unethical people who will exploit it to their advantage. We had a local outsourced accounting firm whose CEO we invited to our Board of Advisors, and all of his advice seemed to result in his firm increasing our billings by an order of magnitude. By the time I finally removed his firm and insourced their work, he had come close to financially devastating my firm. The best mentors don’t need anything from you, but if you have an arrangement with them for payment in cash or stock, ensure that arrangement is clear and the advisor doesn’t have an interest in pushing you in a specific direction for their own gain.
Work out.
Exercise. Be fit. Life is better when you
work out. I know your answer, which is the same for everyone, “I can’t possibly find the time with my schedule to work out, the business will suffer!”. Quite simply, BS. The stress you are going through is probably the highest you have experienced in your life, and if you don’t work out now, your ability to be at your best will start to fall, quickly. I’m not saying you suddenly need to take up some time consuming pursuit that is a job in itself, like training for the Ironman, but there are so many little things that you can do during your day to start getting fit, after a couple of months of getting into a routine you’ll wonder how you functioned without doing them. Park on the opposite side of the street and walk further to work. Take the stairs. Take a break at lunch and do 50 pushups, 50 situps, and 50 squats daily. Work your way up to a solid 30-45 min of exercise daily. On days when you wake up late and can’t possibly do 30 minutes, get 5 minutes in so you keep your momentum.
Set a schedule for yourself. Particularly if you’re still working by yourself or working out of your house, you need to have a set schedule for work and stick by it. It’s too easy to just do whatever happens to come to you reactively, but that is not the way to build a business. Especially if you are not good at working on a schedule, set your working time, family time, and relaxation time and stick to them. If you deviate, get back to your schedule asap.
Know your weaknesses.
If you are extremely uncomfortable dealing with customers, doing your books, or going on sales calls, whatever your weaknesses are you need to recognize them first. Once you recognize them, you need to compensate for them. Compensation may be that you take extra time to prepare for a sales call, rehearsing it until you’re as comfortable as you can be, take sales training or Toastmaster’s courses, take bookkeeping classes, hire somebody to do that function for you or a variety of other compensation methods, but the key is to know your weaknesses, face them, and compensate. Often, depending upon how much effort you put into it, a weakness can become a strength. As an example, I get extremely nervous speaking in front of large groups. Because of this, I spend a lot of time rehearsing my topics to the point where I can brief them without slides and without any notes other than simple topic bullets. When prepped appropriately, a speaking engagement then becomes another opportunity to excel at a new skill rather than a dreaded ordeal to be endured, and I have received many comments on how I can brief without relying heavily on aids, and how composed I look, despite my trepidation and butterflies before and during.
Finally, set deadlines and goals for yourself and adhere to them. Determine your goals for your business, write them down and give them to a trusted friend with a date set for 6 months or a year from then to review them with you. On a daily basis, set your goals for the day and at the end of the day review them. It’s a common trap to get immersed in the chaos of a startup and find a year later you were phenomenally busy, but never achieved the goals you originally planned. You can revise the goals as need be, but you need to set them first to revise them later.

Philip Antoine known in the bartending fraternity as “Casanova” is a flamboyant 28yr old mixologist hailing from the Caribbean island of Barbados. Philip, who was born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, relocated to Barbados at the age of nine and is now viewed as one of the top mixologists on the island and within the Caribbean.

Interestingly, bartending was not his first choice for a career. He is actually certified in Interior Design and Decorating. However, his introduction to the world of bartending came in 2006, where after frequenting what was then the island’s No.1 nightclub, he became a bartender in the club. This opened his eyes to the bartending arena. After the closure of the club in 2010, he moved on to the world famous “T.G.I. FRIDAYS” restaurant. Having enjoyed two years of fun and cocktails at “FRIDAYS”, he ventured out to spread his wings as a mixologist at the “LIME BAR”, located in the islands most luxurious shopping Centre. Being captivated by the world of cocktails and mixology, Phillip has competed and won several bartending competitions hosted by some of the biggest brands in bartending. He is the reigning champion of The Barbados Food & Wine and Rum Festival, with his creation “The Spicy Sweetheart” being the signature cocktail for this year’s upcoming festival. In January of this year he was edge out of becoming Barbados Bartender of the year, by a mere point eight, but qualified for the award winning Barbados Culinary team and was scheduled to represent the island at the “Taste of the Caribbean” culinary competition this June in Miami Florida. He has also captured multiple top three places in the “Angostura Global and Mixmaster Challenge”. In addition to his many other titles and competitions, he is the winner of the “Claytons Kola Tonic” cocktail competition and is now the Ambassador and the face of the “Claytons Kola Tonic” brand. When not busy behind a bar he promotes and teaches fellow mixologists about the qualities and versatility of this amazing product “Claytons Kola Tonic”.

RUM SHOP TALK So many shops from so many parishes, and they all have a new and interesting story to tell. In Barbados it is the rum shops that provide a personal atmosphere. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet many wonderful people in all of these places. The Rum Shop, an institution of village life, much in evidence in present society today should be re-created as part of the Heritage celebrations. Why? As society develops institutions are created to service the needs of the community, the rum shop is one such pivotal institution for our society. The Rum Shop served as a meeting point for society’s more colorful members. The Rum Shop is often seen as common ground, where people from all walks of life could meet and feel the pulse of society, exchange ideas and refresh themselves. Some rum shops double as little grocery stores, but most are small, individual establishments. They are everywhere, dotting the streets and roadsides of the island’s towns and villages. The rum shop is a local institution.
Ordering Rum: To get the attention of the proprietor, you have to slam your money on the counter and demand what you want. Quart: Those with means order a quart to be taken home. Flask: For the less well off, a flask is a small, flat bottle containing 35-40% proof that four can share in one round with a chaser. Pitie, Nip or Mix: The smaller ‘Nip’ or a ‘Mix’ is for three. The ‘Half nip’ is shared between two friends. The ‘Mix’ is a deceptively sweet combination of Falernum (a sweet rum liquor from Barbados) and rum. ‘Anba Contwè’, or ‘Underthe-Counter’ is a secret brew of herbs steeped in alcohol with supposed aphrodisiac qualities. Shot: A ‘Shot’ is an individual amount of strong rum, served in a small glass that is tossed down the throat.

Protecting Data Protecting sensitive data is the end goal of almost all IT security measures. Two strong arguments for protecting sensitive data are to avoid identity theft and to protect privacy. The improper disclosure of sensitive data can also cause harm and embarrassment to students, faculty, and staff, and potentially harm the reputation of the Institute. Therefore, it is to everyone's advantage to ensure that sensitive data is protected. 1. Data security is fundamental Data security is crucial to all academic, medical and business operations at MIT. All existing and new business and data processes should include a data security review to be sure MIT data is safe from loss and secured against unauthorized access. 2. Plan ahead Create a plan to review your data security status and policies and create routine processes to access, handle and store the data safely as well as archive unneeded data. Make sure you and your colleagues know how to respond if you have a data loss or dat a breach incident.
3. Know what data you have The first step to secure computing is knowing what data you have and what levels of protection are required to keep the data both confidential and safe from loss. 4. Scale down the data Keep only the data you need for routine current business, safely archive or destroy older data, and remove it from all computers and other devices (smart phones, laptops, flash drives, external hard disks). 5. Lock up! Physical security is the key to safe and confidential computing. All the passwords in the world won't get your laptop back if the computer itself is stolen. Back up the data to a safe place in the event of loss.

CiCi’s powerful and stunning voice has earned her the title of “First Lady of Jazz” by the Barbados Advocate, Barbados. The list of celebrities who have attended CiCi’s captivating performances include luminaries such as the late jazz legend Sarah Vaughan and rock legend Mick Jagger. This sultry and soulful singer has performed at the premium venues in Barbados where she’s been enchanting audiences for over 20 years. She has recently won the coveted Cornerstone Award at the Barbados Music Awards, and had previously earned a Music Service Award from the Barbados Tourism Authority in 2004 for her contribution to art form on the island. Prior to relocating to Canada for a few years, she performed regularly at the prestigious Sandy Lane Resort with her own band. She also joined the venerable VSOP Dixieland Jazz Band as a headliner at the renowned Waterfront Café for many years. CiCi has also garnered International attention during her performances in St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Mustique, Great Britain, and the USA. Seth Antonio Bovell better known by his stage name Xcel is a Barbadian singer-songwriter, producer and actor. XCeL was born on the beautiful island of Barbados and lived there until the age of nine when he moved to the Virgin Islands. XCeL under the name DipKid started a music career in 2004 with a friend and formed a group called C.T.B which is one of the pioneers of recording rap music in the Virgin Islands. Their music was distributed throughout schools and played frequently on the radio. But, it came to an end when XCel moved back to Barbados in 2008 and commenced a solo career under the name SethMus. In 2008-2009 XCel made approximately 200 tracks and released 3 underground mixtapes which were circulated on the streets of Barbados. Currently, Xcel is working on his official debut album. Unlike many artists today, XCel writes, mixes and masters his songs himself, Stiffy, SupaFrost, Altek, Jahir, SR Viper, G81 Snappah, M.W.E, Dyce, Blackstarr, Yung Prez, and Lil Tris are among the Barbadian musicians that Xcel has worked with.

New Venue, New Poets, Awesome Poetry! Yet again, the Bajan Association of Rum Shops (B.A.R.S. Inc.) in collaboration with Bajan Sun Online hosted its SECOND Open Mic session entitled Bajan Erotica at the Casablanca Pool Hall and Bar located Maxwell Coast Road, Christ Church, Barbados. Night 2 - was slamming, and if you missed it - you really missed it. Mmmm! This event started at 8:30 pm, and from the beginning the passion and heat was present! As the name suggests it was indeed a steamy night, with lots of local and international talent evident in poetry, spoken word, free-styling and the performing arts. This event featured seasoned and upcoming poets, authors and performers which included: Robert the Passion Poet, Cher C, Mariposa, Kersha, Iris Flow, Isis Blu, Jomo Lashley, and Rhy Minister. Visitors and Guests also jumped into the boiling pot of heated poetry - performing were the likes of Blake, Jen Bone, Akibah and the talented Cody Bentham. Host Raeann Beckles also serenaded the crowd with her version of At Last by Etta James. To keep the place pumping, the youthful and skillful DJ Renaldo, was also in attendance. Another remarkable evening of talent! BARBADIAN Diaspora IN MUSIC
Music Enharmony LLC Ruth-Ann's love for music started at a young age and much of what she learnt came from her mother. Despite being born to parents of Bajan descent, Ruth-Ann Lewis lives in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. However, driven by her passion to stay close to her roots, Ruth -Ann wishes to make an impact within the Barbados Music Arena. She has already started, establishing her own small music studio and demanding excellence from her students. It is her wish that there be a network of schools in the West Indies where (1.) musical education comes first; (2.) students can see the possibilities of a future in music; (3.) where we are no longer limited in the field of music and (4.) where an active exchange increases the productivity and progress of music education. Therefore, creating an impact in our part of the world if not even farther.
Ruth-Ann's Music Studio in SVG, T.h.&.M.e.S. Music Studio速, offers a variety of music classes for children and adults. Practical instrument lessons include piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, bass guitar, percussion, flute, voice, harp, among others. Music Theory classes are available separately so that students that fall into the categories such as the "would be composers" category have the opportunity to take theory at a serious pace. Ruth-Ann is trying to encourage ensemble work and consistent performance from her students. The school's curriculum ensures that students learn how to write about music and this opens doors for students interested in fields of study such as Ethnomusicology, a necessary field to ensure that traditional and folk music in the West Indies does not disappear. In her own words: "I love it when my students think." RuthAnn declares with a smirk. "My goal is to encourage music intelligence and drive so that eventually my students will exceed me in areas of music that I have mastered myself, as well as areas that I have not mastered. Simply put, areas they love."
Ruth-Ann's music studies began at a young age, relying on her mother who eventually ran a piano music studio. Ruth-Ann later joined her mother at the age of 10 teaching a few young piano students. Ruth-Ann was obviously ambitious, and her mother encouraged that ambition. As such, after Ruth-Ann passed the grade 5 ABRSM piano exam her mother sent her to study with the most prominent music teacher on the island at that time, Mr. "Pat" Prescod. Although young and careless, Ruth-Ann learned two vital aspects of music: (1.) in music performance, always find the meaning of the piece and express that with your own heart; and (2.) in music teaching, give reasons and motivation for your students to love music, the piece, and the instrument they play. "That burning impression of Mr. Prescod playing one of her pieces on the piano has never left her. Pudding refers to Black Pudding (think British Blood Pudding). It is more like a sausage. In Barbados and some other parts of the Caribbean, pudding with blood is not made at all, rather, there is a steamed pudding made of spiced sweet potatoes and darkened with browning to give that signature dark look of a traditional blood pudding. This version of the pudding is served two ways stuffed in a casing such as a sausage casing or it is served as is. Blacking Pudding is an influence from the Colonial days. On weekends, long lines can be seen outside shops, homes and other places that make and sell Pudding & Souse. Everyone, has their special vendor that they buy from because like everything else, the taste of the Pudding & Souse varies from one cook/chef to the other. Where to get Pudding & Souse? POETS Isis Blu If my palms aren't sweaty and I'm not shaking I'm not passionate about it plain and simple. I look the way I feel my face says it all. Iris Flow Charis Simon, made the unconscious leap from being an avid reader to becoming a lyrical, intelligent and conscious poet, also indulging in the are of “Spoken Word”. From an early age she was captivated and greatly engulfed by her love of written word and admired how a story could influence her imagination.

As age and experience ran it’s course, she threw her hat in the ring to put her literary genius to good use and performed for the first time at the “Mahalia’s Corner” open mic in 2012. Her rendition was called “Mistress of Metaphor” and her well received performance gave birth to her stage name “Iris Flow”, her love for poetry and Spoken Word grew. At age 28 the artist has performed at several open mic’s across the island and has been an influence to many and an inspiration to artist in her field. So much so that she co-hosted “passionate flow” at the South Coast Daiquiri & Grill with Robert Gibson and as she explains her love for poetry runs deeper than just writing it. “I wanted to expand the interest of the spoken word field” says Iris Flow and help to create another medium where people can come out and showcase talent in Barbados. The Creation process for the artist knows no limits as she immerses herself daily into writing, creating, researching and transferring her feelings into art.

MUSICAL GENERATION GMC Official Music is a one man operation: which includes songwriting, recording, mixing, mastering, graphics, music videos, promotion and marketing. As GMC informs, “There is presently no team as yet. But, I'm going through the recruitment stage as the content creation task becomes more demanding. I currently operate from a home studio setup and when I’m not working on my personal projects I freelance production for other upcoming and established local artists.” Ambitious is an understatement when describing this very talented Barbadian native hiphop artist. GMC has a unique addiction to the world of Hip Hop & Rap. Growing up he was not tutored in music but his drive and passion for it has led to an obsession to ‘shine’ through the ‘cloudy’ local music industry dominated by soca & dancehall. He promises to put Bridgetown on the map in the world of Hip Hop & Rap. As an artist & producer of his own works, GMC naturally spills originality & creativity on everything he touches. He’s sure to take Barbados, the Caribbean & the world by storm. “Re-construction Mixtape 2012” GMC released his first official solo mixtape “Re-construction” under his co-founded indie label UBMG [Urban Bass Music Group].
GMC explains: “Re-construction was me lyrically telling them look, you all had the local Hip Hop movement stagnant for years. It’s time an experienced foreman stepped in and reconstruct the game from the ground up. When I showed the fans my versatility they wanted to hear me rip those international beats these other rappers be tripping on. So, I balanced it with some of my own productions and delivered”. GMC has produced singles such as “Everything Bless”, “Rollin”, “This Is How We Do It”, “Got It Right Here”, “Lying To Myself” and “SnapBack” which is the track that got him signed at Gold Coast Records on its debut, when performed with label cofounder Polydan & Raw-G at the Barbados Hip Hop Festival 2012.
“Futuristic Dreams Mixtape 2013” GMC explains: “After the release of ‘Re-construction’ it was all uphill for me. I started to get more focused knowing how tough it was for the average Bajan artist from the hood, avenue, and block to be recognized in a soca/dancehall dominated market. So my aim on the futuristic mixtape was to bring a more conscious vibe to the game”. With his signature witty, metaphorical style and a huge step up in production, GMC once again delivered a mixtape fans labelled “Classic”. With hits like “Hate Love Jealousy”, “On My Own”, and “Futuristic Dreams” he’s definitely on his way to the top! The Road to the “Bridgetown Knight II” [Street Album] 2014 A new year, a lot has changed since the release of “Futuristic Dreams Mixtape 2013” and things couldn’t be looking any brighter for the rising Barbadian Hip Hop artist. PRIVATE TUTORING If your aim is to improve your aptitude and knowledge base in a particular field, all education pertaining to this subject will be useful. If this statement is assumed true, then the benefits afforded by private tuition are enormous. You will have the advantage of a whole teacher to yourself, with their lesson plans and strategies of teaching designed just for you!
