The Fun Starts Here.
he Kern County Fair is back! September 22 to October 3, 2021. This year’s theme “The Fun Starts Here” perfectly celebrates the start to getting back to our annual traditions and fun. The fair is looking forward to bringing back all your favorites, including the carnival, fair food, livestock competitions and, of course, free entertainment! We are actively working with the County of Kern, Kern County Public Health and the California Department of Food and Agriculture to make sure that we provide a safe and healthy environment for all those who attend. “The Board, fair staff and I are thrilled to once again be planning the 2021 Kern County Fair for our community,” said Michael Olcott, CEO of the Kern County Fair. “Like other fairs and venues that have safely reopened throughout California and around the country, we are developing best practices and safety guidelines that align with the CDC and CDPH.” To help with cleaning and sanitizing protocols, the Kern County Fair will be closed Monday, Sept. 27 and Tuesday, Sept. 28. This will allow time for vendors and staff to do a thorough cleaning halfway through the event. Entertainment: We have another year of free nightly concerts in the Budweiser Pavilion

that we are so eager to announce. Back in the grandstand we will have two nights of Monster Trucks on Friday, Sept. 24 and Saturday, Sept. 25. Two nights of PRCA Rodeo on Friday, Oct. 1 and Saturday, Oct. 2 and the Fiesta Rodeo on Sunday, Oct. 3. Lastly, you won’t want to miss out on all the local talent every day of the fair on our three community stages. Admission: Adults $12, Seniors (62+) $9, Children (6-12) $5, Children (5 and under) FREE. Active and Retired Military: FREE. Parking: $10. This month, we are proud to announce the receipt of a $130,000 grant from Health Net to fund the purchase of a new, refrigerated food distribution truck for the Community Action Partnership of Kern (CAPK) Food Bank, Kern County’s central food bank. The CAPK Food Bank is the second largest food bank in Central California and serves all of Kern County – an area of more than 8,000 square miles. A network of community partners – smaller food banks, faith-based organizations, nonprofits and community centers – receive regular deliveries of shelf-stable and perishable food that they share with families and individuals in need. Health Net’s donation of this refrigerated truck will reinforce CAPK Food Bank’s current fleet, help us expand our network of distribution nodes and deliver food directly into the neighborhoods of Kern County residents who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity. “This truck will help CAPK Food Bank and more than 150 other community partners deliver fresh produce, dairy products and meat to the more than 250,000 people facing food insecurity in every corner of Kern County. We saw dramatic increases in the need for emergency food in 2020 and that need has continued well into 2021. Health Net’s grant to CAPK is a powerful gift to the entire county that will help the communities we serve rebound from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CAPK CEO Jeremy Tobias.
“With decades of experience caring for California’s most vulnerable residents, our goal is to work hand-in-hand with our community partners like CAPK to ensure we’re serving those who depend on the health care safety net the most,” said Brian Ternan, President and CEO of Health Net Inc., and California Health and Wellness. “Together, we will continue to create and expand new models – including healthy nutrition campaigns, food pharmacy pilots and food RX programs – all designed to improve nutrition and health outcomes for those most at risk.” The Greater Bakersfield Chamber extends its appreciation to Health Net for this investment in the CAPK Food Bank and in the lives of the residents of Kern County.
