MESSAGE FROM THE

BAKERSFIELD TRAIN ROBBERS – 2019 Pacific Division Champions! Bakersfield is the home to many champions, foremost is our very own home team, the Bakersfield Train Robbers. After not being able to defend their title in 2020, the Train Robbers are excited to secure their title in 2021. About: The Bakersfield Train Robbers, an affiliate in the Pecos League of Professional Baseball Clubs, began playing at the Sam Lynn Ballpark in 2017. Did you know? The historic Sam Lynn Ballpark is the only active professional baseball park that faces west. Due to the intense summer sun, game time cannot start until sunset. To help offset the sun light interfering in play, a 120-foot wall was built directly behind the centerfield fence. To protect batters from any hazards the sun may inflict, first pitch is generally at 7:45 p.m. Why build a park facing west in the first place? The question of the ballpark’s strange construction is easily answered in its history. The ballpark was built inside the one-mile oval horse racing track located at the original Kern County Fairgrounds. It was built in preparation for the 1941 baseball season, which was 80 years ago! In that era, night games across America usually scheduled first pitch between 8- 8:15 p.m., thus the direction the field faced was irrelevant. It was not until the ’70s when start times were earlier that it became problematic. The Train Robbers were the pilot team to use Amtrak as transportation for games during their season. Future Champions: Baseball Camp is available for youth ages 6-17. Coaches provide general hitting, pitching and baserunning instruction through activities including drills, games and baseball related fun. Bakersfield Train Robbers 2021 Youth Baseball Camps can be purchased online and run from June until the end of July. Support Your Local Team: Shop online for branded items or to become a partner. Sponsorship opportunities exist to brand your organization as a community leader that is committed to our champions and in providing an enjoyable and wholesome family-oriented entertainment atmosphere here in Bakersfield. Play Ball: In July, home games will be July 1-5, 9-10, the 12th, 19th, 23rd, 26th & 30-31. The final home game of the regular season will be Monday, August 2 at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase online www.bakersfieldtrainrobbers.com in-person at the box office on home game nights after 4 p.m. Sam Lynn Ballpark is located at 4009 Chester Ave.
