BALI Tourism Development Corporation (BTDC) Nusa Dua is once again holding its Nusa Dua Fiesta. This annual event will have the theme “Segara Lelangunan”, which in the Balinese language means to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the ocean. Through this theme, BTDC is inviting us all to care for and understand the importance of conserving coastal and marine ecosystems and to support sustainable marine tourism.

Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 will be held from 2-5 November 2012. A variety of activities will be presented on Peninsula Island in Nusa Dua. Some of the highlights of Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 include: 1). Launching the highest Kresna-Arjuna art sculpture; 2). Indonesia Music Expo (IMEX); 3). Bali Culinary Challenge 2012; 4). Science Film Festival; 5). Save Nusa Dua Coral Reef; 6). Underwater Photo Exhibition; 7). Fun Bike; 8). Sustainable Seafood Workshop; 9). Traditional Art Performance.

Several world-class musicians will showcase their collaborations of traditional and modern (World) music presented with ethnomusicologist Franki Raden. Franki has seen success in both national and internationalscale music events, such as Tembang Harmony featuring Fariz RM, Dwiki Dharmawan, Iwan Hasan, Barry Likumahua, Iwa K, Renny Djayusman, Andi Rif and Dira Sugandi. Indonesian musicians taking part in the Indonesia Music Expo are Modero (Central Sulawesi), Nyamphea (Bali), Ayu Laksmi & Svara Semesta (Bali) and DJ Nino Live (Jakarta). While international musicians taking part are Kevin Brigg from Ka Mau (USA), Ron Reeves (Australia), Kailash Kokopelli (Switzerland), Clio Karabellias (Greece), Anello Capuano (Italy), Supa Kalulu (Africa) and Pejman Jahanara (Iran) under the guidance of Leonardo Pavkovic, a music promoter from New York.

The Underwater Photo Exhibition bears the theme UNDERWATER PARADISE: The Beauty of Marine Biodiversity in Nusa Dua and Beyond Bali. The exhibition will feature the underwater photographic art of renowned national and international underwater photographers, William Tan (Singapore), Indra Swari Wonowidjojo, Hendra Tan, Sangut Santoso and Adrianto Mulia (Indonesia). Their photographs have been taken at various dive spots around Indonesia, including Nusa Dua, Tulamben, Manado, Raja Ampat, Pulau Weh, Gorontalo, Komodo, and other favourite dive

locations. The Underwater Photo Exhibition will not only promote the beauty of Indonesia under the sea, but also help to educate the public about the importance of marine conservation.

A special children’s program on conservation will be run by BTDC in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut, who will present a Science Film Festival with the regional theme “AIR”. This festival is aimed at demonstrating that science and technology can be communicated in ways that jointly educate and entertain, while contributing to the development of science and technology communication, and supporting education for the children of our nation.

In addition, Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 will also present the “Bali Culinary Challenge ” and a Sustainable Seafood Workshop in cooperation with the Indonesian Chefs Association (ICA).

Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 will be opened with the unveiling of a 17 meter tall statue of Kresna & Arjuna. This statue will be the new mascot for Nusa Dua Tourist Resort and will strengthen BTDC’s commitment to safeguard the area’s Culture and Environment.

The program of events presented in Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 will provide a different feel to the fiestas of previous years and is expected to attract more tourists, especially from overseas.

The Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 is designed to promote the image of Bali, and Nusa Dua Tourism Resort, as a destination that is safe, comfortable and attractive to visit, while also demonstrating BTDC’s efforts to support sustainable tourism in Bali specifically and Indonesia more generally.

Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 has been brought to fruition through cooperation between BTDC and all its tourism partners in the Resort Area.

The Nusa Dua Fiesta has pioneered similar events across the island, such as Kuta Karnival, Sanur Village Festival and Ubud Festival, as well as other festivals in Indonesia.

As well as promoting the image of the area, Nusa Dua Fiesta 2012 will also serve to promote local products. While the presentation of performing arts by Balinese and Indonesian artists is expected to be instrumental in further developing creativity and the creation of high-quality artistic products.

Every year the Fiesta takes a different character and theme. Each theme portrays

a state / natural beauty of God’s creation in an impressive and deeply meaningful way, which in the Balinese language is referred to as “Lelangunan”.

The manifestation of the Nusa Dua Fiesta theme will be beautiful performing arts / artistic attractions in the form of dance, musicals, ballet, art products and a variety of other activities that are expected to attract tourists to come to Nusa Dua Fiesta.

Nusa Dua Fiesta Profile Nusa Dua Fiesta is one of the biggest tourism promotion events in Bali every year and is held in Nusa Dua Tourism Resort. The event, which is always attended and opened by the Tourism and Culture Minister, was first named “Nusa Dua Festival”. In 2007, the name was changed to Nusa Dua Fiesta.

Nusa Dua Fiesta is a prestigious annual event with a good reputation as an effective media campaign for the various provinces, regencies and cities in Indonesia. This is due to its strategic positioning and management as a major attraction for Nusa Dua, which can be regarded as “The Window to the World” for Indonesia. In addition, participant interest in the Nusa Dua Fiesta from year to year has increased leading it to become one of “The Great Tourism Exhibitions” in Bali, and even in Indonesia.

Indonesia’s Bali Recalls Horror of Bombs 10 Years on FLOWERS are placed on chairs during a commemoration service for the 10th anniversary of the Bali bombing in Garuda Wisnu Kencana (GWK) cultural park in Jimbaran, Bali October 12, 2012 The explosions on October 12, 2002, when two Islamist suicide bombers set off explosives at nightclubs packed with tourists killing 202 people. The blasts, just over a year after the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States, were a watershed for Indonesia, a secular state with the world’s largest population of Muslims the majority of whom are moderate.

The 2002 bombing was Asia’s deadliest terror strike, killing 202 people — including 88 Australians and seven Americans — and injuring more than 240 others partying at the popular Sari Club and

Paddy’s Pub in Kuta that Saturday night.

The attack was carried out by suicide bombers from the al-Qaida-linked group Jemaah Islamiyah and kick started a wave of violence that would hit an embassy, hotels and restaurants in the world’s most-populous Muslim-majority nation.

The bombs forced Indonesia to confront the presence of a small but dedicated group of followers of Osama bin Laden bent on attacking Western targets.

For Australia, the Bali bombs were the worst peacetime attack on its citizens, many of whom regard a holiday on Bali as a sun-drenched rite of passage.

One effect of the attacks was to strengthen relations between the neighbours who had long eyed each other suspiciously.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gil-

lard and Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, along with relatives of some of those killed, attended a ceremony in Bali on Friday (12/10) to commemorate the 10th anniversary. “They attacked our people and through them, sought to overwhelm our values. Here on these bustling streets, they inflicted searing pain and grief that will never end,” Gillard told the commemoration.

“But even as the debris fell, it was obvious the attack on our sense of ourselves - as Australians, as human beings - had failed,” she said.

Adelaide School Prefects Raise more funds to help school in North Eastern Bali!

THE BALI Dynasty Resort has supported the East Bali Poverty Project for over 10 years in their education projects and has become one of their top sponsors. In order to gain support the Bali Dynasty Resort communicates its’ cause to its’ travel partners, suppliers and guests in order to raise the necessary monthly funds to fund the

education project in Pengalusan for 56 students.

In addition to this monthly commitment the Bali Dynasty Charity effort is committed to constantly improving the lives and future sustainability of the children and the villagers through assisting in other ways which will make a difference.

In 2011, Julie Ralph, a regular

guest at the Bali Dynasty Resort and PR Coordinator for Adleaide High School convinced the prefects of the high school in their annual fundraising to raise funds for the Bali Dynasty Charity effort where she felt reassured 100% of her donations would directly impact the lives of the students. Consequently Adelaide High School donated around

20 desk chairs in October 2011 along with other regular guests, who had their names inscribed on the back of the chairs.

Julie recently visited the project in Pengalusan for the first time to see the impact of the donation and to be able to report back to her students in Adelaide how they had made a difference to the kids lives.

On returning to Adelaide along with pictures and video to show the students, she was immediately able to confirm a further $1000 donation to cover the costs of new uniforms in both Pengalusan and the neighbouring hamlet of Cegi.

The Bali Dynasty Charity Effort raises money in various ways; through its’ annual Back to Bali Dynasty Party in Perth as well as regular twice weekly quiz nights in Gracie Kelly’s and donation boxes around the resort as well as a $1 to check out promotion where the guest has the option to donate or refuse.

The Bali Dynasty Resort, through the Bali Dynasty Charity effort established in 2000 has supported the integrated education projects of the East Bali Poverty Project initially supporting Cegi and Pengalusan schools and now fully supporting just Pengalusan. A Luxurious Yet Sustainable Design Aesthetic at Alila Villas Uluwatu ALILA Villas Uluwatu, the first all-pool villa property in a new generation of Alila Hotels and Resorts properties, has brought about an exquisite luxury resort that marries a striking design aesthetic with environmental sustainability. Set against a rocky Bali Savannah landscape, Alila Villas Uluwatu’s architectural framework was specifically drawn up by award-winning design firm WOHA to follow environmentally sustainable design principles without compromising on style.

Alila Villas Uluwatu had decided to work with WOHA on this cliff-top property because of a shared belief in protecting the environment. The architectural firm is recognized for their non-invasive designs which work to enhance the existing surroundings with minimal interference. This stems from WOHA’s belief in creating exciting and diverse environments that are not only humane and desirable but also provides a continuous improvement of the constructed environment.

Heavily involved in projects around the Asia Pacific region, WOHA’s portfolio includes institutional, transport, commercial, religious, infrastructure and residential projects like Newton Suites in Singapore and The Met, a high-rise condominium in Bangkok. Alila Villas Uluwatu’s collaboration with WOHA has resulted in a spectacular and seamlessly designed property that utilises the prime location on Bali’s southern coastline. In a bid to accentuate the surrounding natural environment, WOHA has made use of traditional locally sourced materials like hand cut stone from the work site for garden walls and local bamboo for the ceilings.

According to WOHA’s director Richard Hassell, the design of each villa is inspired

by Balinese traditional architecture, in the way that the house is a collection of pavilion platforms in a compound. He adds that by developing a “low-tech terraced pumice stone roof, we are able to develop a more flowing spatial language than is possible in the traditional steep pitched grass roofs.”

Taking advantage of the sloped terrain, WOHA designed individually tiered villas, allowing each villa to have a panoramic view of the sea and the horizon. Veering towards traditional Balinese elements with modern aesthetics, the flat roof of each villa was also covered with volcanic batu chandi rock that not only provides insulation but also promotes natural vegetation.

With lush interiors of cream and earthy tones created by the use of wood, stone and rattan, these villas provide a suitable balance to the rugged natural landscape. The healthy

dose of sun rays piercing through the ceiling to floor glass doors and windows also add to the blissful holiday mood that guests find easy to slip into when at Alila Villas Uluwatu.

Adding to the spoils is yet another luxury – a private pavilion that overlooks the glittering azure ocean. German Tourism Industry Commits to the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics

THE FEDERAL Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTW) has signed the Private Sector Commitment to the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, joining the growing number of private sector companies and associations which have pledged to the principles of the Code (Berlin, Germany, 8-9 October).

The signing, held in the presence of Mr. Ernst Burgbacher, Germany’s Parliamentary State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology and Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs and Tourism, entails the commitment of BTW to promote and implement the values of responsible and sustainable tourism development championed by the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics.

“We are pleased that we were able to sign the Global Code of Ethics in the framework of our Tourism Summit, one of the largest and most important industry events in Germany.

As a longtime Affiliate Member of UNWTO, the BTW has always been committed to the principles of the Code. The official signing reinforces, once again, this attitude”, said BTW President, Klaus Laepple.

“The endorsement of the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics by the tourism private sector in Germany, one of the world’s top tourism markets, is essential to further advance the implementation of the Code,” said UNWTO Executive Director for External Relations and Partnerships, Márcio Favilla, representing UNWTO at the ceremony. “Germany has traditionally set an example in the field of social

responsibility and we are very pleased to see this leadership also in the tourism sector“, he added.

UNWTO initiated in 2011 a campaign to promote the adherence of private tourism enterprises and associations to the Global Code of Ethics for Tourism.

A special focus on social, cultural and economic issues within the framework of sustainable tourism is one of the main objectives of the Private Sector Commitment to the Code. Together with the

environmental sustainability components being increasingly incorporated into businesses operations across the globe, the Commitment seeks to draw particular attention to issues such as human rights, social inclusion, gender equality, accessibility, and the protection of vulnerable groups and host communities.

The Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry (BTW), a UNWTO Affiliate Member, represents the interests of the tourism industry in Germany. Its

members include more than 40 large companies and major associations from all sectors of the tourism industry.

Adopted in 1999 by the UNWTO General Assembly and endorsed by the United Nations General Assembly in 2001, the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism is a set of principles designed to guide the development of tourism in a way that maximizes the socio-economic benefits of the sector, while minimizing any negative impacts. v K12-I.13-12
