Miss Earth Indonesia Releases Dozens of Turtle Hatchlings Chelsy, one of the representatives of Indonesia in the World Miss Earth selection scheduled to be held in Bali in October 2012, released dozens of turtle hatchlings on Pasut Beach, Tabanan Regency, Friday (Aug 3). She was not alone when releasing the turtle hatchlings, but accompanied by four other beautiful women becoming the finalists of Miss Indonesia Earth contest. “I am proud to be a part of the movement preserving the endangered wildlife,” said Chelsy after releasing the turtle hatchlings. “Hopefully, there will be no more turtle massacres worldwide, including on the Island of the Gods,” she added. Nadia Amanto, a Miss Indonesia Earth representing the element of water, assessed the use of resources in the region of Indonesia had already been out of control. The amount of clean water in this country had decreased so that the

public should make efficient use. “People should start a rescue because at the moment the quantity of clean water is inadequate,” she said. Chairman of the Indonesia Fishermen Association (HNSI) of

Tabanan, I Ketut Arsana Yasa, hoped that all parties were concerned about the environment around the coast. “Green turtle becomes an important species in maintaining the ecosystem. The number of turtles in the world is continuously declining,” he said. Formerly, on full moon there were turtles coming to the beach to lay eggs. Now, it rarely happened. The arrival of such protected animals to the beach could even be calculated each year. The arrival of Miss Indonesia Earth to Tabanan Regency, according to him, was expected to become a moment for the region in encouraging the tourism sector, chiefly marine tourism. Born in Austria, Ms Wasfy grew up in the hospitality business, s i n c e h e r p a re nt s owned a farm and hotel. A Visit to Thai Airways Bali The visit of Bali Travel Newspaper to Thai Airways Bali on Friday (Aug 3) was welcomed in person by General Manager of Thai Airways Bali, Mr. Phi-roon Sakulthong, Ni Luh Yumaeni (Sales Representative) and some staff. “Jimbaran Bay” Jazz Festival InterContinental Bali Resort is delighted to announce that the inaugural Jimbaran Bay Jazz Festival on Sunday (1/7) was an overwhelming success. The event took place in the Resort’s Spa Garden from 4.00 pm until 11.00 pm as the day transitioned into night with over 700 music enthusiasts in attendance. Headlining the festival was renowned Indonesian jazz vocalist Sandhy Sondoro who entertained fans with an upbeat set of old and new songs. Indonesia Rhythm also took to the stage with a unique repertoire of folk jazz numbers from around the archipelago. While the popular KSP band from Bandung had the audience singing along to a number of classic Indonesian hits. Bali was represented by several local bands most notably Tropical Transit featuring the lovely Rika Roeslan on vocals. Finally, the Rio Sidik Quartet performed just before Sandhy closed the festival on a high note with an hour-long performance that penetrated the

night air. Throughout t h e f e s ti v a l refreshments were available from stalls set up around the garden. The Resort sold grilled satays, gourmet sandwiches, popcorn and selected beverages. Queen’s Tandoor, Ryoshi, Kopi Bali and many others supported the Festival. “The Jimbaran Bay Jazz Festival was an opportunity for likeminded music fans to gather in a relaxed outdoor setting and enjoy the amazing location, with its breathtaking sunset, and great sounds along with light bites to eat and drink. The event attracted a diverse mix of local residents, expatriates and in-house guests. Bali Hyatt Kite Festival Bali Hyatt celebrated the 17th Annual Kite Festival on Friday (20/7). The festivities commenced at 10.00 am, with a parade from Telaga Naga Restaurant to the Beachfront. The parade was accompanied by the unique sounds of the Baleganjur (Balinese Orchestra). Eight wonderful and colourful creations of Balinese kites, especially made by groups from each department of the hotel flew high in the skies. Below are the names of the departments and each of their kite creations: 1). Human Resources, G u e st A c tivities, SPA and Security Department (Kite theme: Save the turtle); 2). Kitchen and Steward Department (Culture of preserving the lobster); 3). Accounting and Materials Department (Dewi Saraswati); 4). Housekeeping and Laundry Department (Dewi Subadra); 5). Engineering Department (Naga Basuki); 6). Gardener (The legend of Koi fish); 7). Food & Beverage Service Departments (Birds); 8) Front Office and Sales Department (Garbage Bin). Each group was given a chance to present a five minute performance, followed by the kite flying. The performances reflected the theme of their kite. Each group was given a score for their effort, creativity, kite design, concept, team work and ingenuity, as well as its ability to fly.
